Spinning into a New World by Sara Humphreys

When writing a series, I think one of the most challenging things is to keep it fresh. There are several series I've read that I thoroughly enjoyed, but after awhile the books can seem repetitive. So what's an author to do? I want to stay engaged with my readers and give them something fresh. However, there's still the desire to give them a hint of familiarity.  Then it hit me...a spin off series! Why not introduce new characters and a new layer to the Amoveo world and then give these characters their own series? So that's exactly what I've done. In UNDONE , the fourth Amoveo Legend novel, readers get to meet my vampires in NYC. Olivia Hollingsworth is a three century old vampire who owns a nightclub called The Coven. She runs the joint out of an old church in Greenwich Village and is also the head of an all female vampire coven.  Readers will get a peek at Olivia and her sexy little coven in UNDONE but then my vamps will be getting their own series---Dea...

A Call to Beat All Calls, by Sara Humphreys

I can't really tell my call story without telling you a bit about my publishing journey. It's slightly unorthodox, at least that's what they tell me. Back in 2008 I had finished my very first manuscript and had the audacity to send it out... to everyone. Agents, publishers, editors--you name it. If they published romance I wanted them to take a look at my book. Clearly, I didn't have the vaguest notion about what I was doing. No agent. No RWA chapter because I was under the mistaken impression that you had to be published to be involved in RWA. Ummm no. Let's face it. I had NO idea what I was doing. Anyway, as you can imagine, I was rejected a lot and by just about everyone. Oh, I had several nibbles, requests for full manuscripts and so on but mostly they said, "No thank you." By the summer of 2009 my book was available as an ebook and with some wrangling, print on demand. However, I realized pretty quickly that my book wasn't going to be on all the ...

Naps: The Ulitmate Indulgence, by Sara Taney Humphreys

I love sleep. Probably because like most working moms, I don't get enough of it. It's the ultimate alone time. Like many of you, I'm a mom, wife, writer and employee-at-insert-job-here. Between work, kids, husband, house, laundry, dogs, bird, writing, editing...there are only so many hours in the day to get it all done. Very often, sleep is the thing that gets cut short. Sleeping at night for a nice long eight hour stretch is fantastic. The only thing that trumps that is the Sunday afternoon nap. I never used to be able to nap. You know... before I had kids. HA! Not anymore. I used to make fun of my father for taking catnaps. Clearly, God has a sense of humor because these days I daydream of napping. Naps. Now they are the ultimate indulgence for me. Laying on the sofa, curled up under my coziest blanket and falling asleep to a great old movie. ( Dirty Dancing anyone?) Yes, that quiet nap time with no interruptions . You know the ones I mean. Questions like.... What time...

First Kiss in the First Book.--Sara Taney Humphreys

Happy February Everyone! I am so very excited about my post today. Book 1 in my Amoveo Series is being released by Sourcebooks on October 4th! Whoo Hooo! I know that the release date is seven months away but my illustrious editor Deb Werksman thought it would still be okay to share the first kiss scene. Before I share the scene with you, I should probably tell you what the heck this series is all about anyway. Right? The Amoveo people are an ancient race of shape-shifters who have lived secretly among humans for thousands of years. They are made up of ten different animal clans. Eagle, Lion, Panther, Tiger, Bear, Wolf, Falcon, Fox, Cheetah, Coyote. They are telepathic, dream walking, shape-shifters that are born with a pre-destined soul mate. If an Amoveo does not find their mate by the time they reach the age of 30 they begin to lose their abilities and eventually die. They can only have children with their life mates. They are physically beautiful, incredibly strong and once they are...

The Knot at the End of the Rope

"When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot in it and hang on."--Thomas Jefferson At the beginning of 2010 I was at the end of my proverbial publishing rope. I had been searching for an agent to help me get my Amoveo Series picked up by a new publisher. I needed to find a home for my shifters. Bottom line... I needed help. Big time. I needed an agent to help me navigate the intricate world of publishing. I had discovered (the hard way) that I couldn't do it on my own. I had come so- close-so-many-times to getting signed, but ultimately nada . I'd climb that rope and just before I'd reach the top--BAM--they'd say, "No thanks." Time after time, I'd climb up only to slide back down the rope--but I never let go. That knot at the bottom was big enough to keep me hanging on. I'm certain it's a story that's familiar to many authors. I had heard from so many other writers that it was incredibly important to find the right agent-- not jus...

An Abundance of Boys

Hey there everyone! My name is Sara Taney Humphreys and I am a brand new author with Sourcebooks Casablanca. I'm psyched to be posting here with all the Casablanca ladies. There are an abundance of great writers and I'm proud to be included. When I saw that this month's theme was "Abundance", it was easy to choose my topic. Quite simply, I have an abundance of boys. I have four boys. I am also married....so really...I have five boys. Ian is 15. I know that people complain about teenagers but so far this one is pretty tolerable. I get the occasional eye roll and yeah-sure-Mom-whatever-you-don't-know anything- look but generally he's a great kid. He's been an insulin dependent diabetic since he was 2 years old, so he's had to be pretty responsible from the time he was very small. Leo is 12. The kid is a walking, talking episode of The History Channel or Discovery Channel--take your pick. He possesses a wealth of knowledge but has no filter. Remembe...
