A Little Downton Anyone? by Linda Broday

I hate to say this but I'm a TV addict. Always have been. Maybe it's because I grew up without one. Or maybe it's something to do at night when I stop writing for the day.

I have my favorites--Castle, Hell on Wheels, Shades of Blue among lots of others.

But Downton Abbey ranks at the top. I love that show. And I'm absolutely heartbroken that the last episode will air on March 6. I can't even bear to think about it.

What will I do without the Crawleys and their magnificent castle?

Sunday's episode saw lots of drama and I felt so badly for Lady Edith. That poor girl is never going to find any happiness. Every time she almost does something happens. Last night her sister did her in. I won't go into it in case someone hasn't watched it. but now I'm quite sure there's little redemption for Lady Mary.

And poor Thomas Barrow. I admit he dug his own hole by the way he's treated people, but my heart goes out to him now. I think it's all going to work out for him though. I have hope. The scene with him sobbing in the kitchen a few weeks ago really got to me and I found myself wondering about his past. Especially when he said that he'd never had roots this deep. He sees the Crawley's as his family.

I'm glad Mr. Bates and Anna are happy now. They've sure been through a lot--prison, long separation, unable to conceive. I'm sorry I won't get to see the little babe that's coming.

I don't know what has happened to Mr. Carson but he's turned very unlikable since he married Mrs. Hughes. I hope she straightens him out soon. He doesn't treat her very well. Yet, she seems to take it in stride.

And now it's about to end. Good grief! I'm kind of getting into Mercy Street. It's taken a while to get to know the characters. So maybe it'll partially fill the hole left by the Crawleys. We'll see.

  1. I love Downton Abbey too, and I just watched Sunday's episode last night. So glad Edith finally told Mary off. And I agree with you about Carson. He needs to relax a bit.I'll miss the show too.

    1. Shana, me too! I wanted to slap Mary. She really, really went too far this time. Yet, gracious, sweet Edith came to her wedding. I doubt I would have. Mary's always gotten everything and pushed Edith to the back. She couldn't stand that a marquis would love poor Edith. Slap, slap!!

  2. Surely the finale will show us Baby Bates? They can't just leave us without wrapping that up! I hope Mary makes things right for Edith, too. Bertie didn't look ready to move on. I have hope!

    1. Sherri, I do hope so, but I really doubt it. Anna isn't far enough long. Or so I'm thinking. But time moves very swiftly in TV. I really see the marquis coming back for Edith, title be damned. He loves her. You can bet I'll be glued to the TV March 6th.

  4. I don't watch a lot of television, but do read some. I would rather read myself. I do watch Downton Abbey, but I am a little behind. I am still watching season 3. I have been watching on Amazon Prime. I need to get caught up. I also watch Big Bang. I will watch that till it ends.

    1. Hi Chris, thank you for coming. I read and watch TV at the same time. Ha! I'm all for multi-tasking. I think Downton is about the best thing on TV. Although I am addicted to the History channel. I love the Secrets of Oak Island. A historical mystery that I hope they'll solve this next season. I've seen several episodes of Big Bang but it need something deeper. Good luck on finishing Downton Abbey.

  5. I have two demands--yes--demands. Edith must get her man. And we get to see the baby Bates. Otherwise, I may throw something at the TV. That is all. ;)

    1. Hi Sally! I totally agree. Edith most definitely has to OUTDO Mary and get her marquis. For the sake of all that's holy. I really hope baby Bates makes an appearance too. And I feel so badly for Thomas Barrow. I think it's going to work out there though. Happy TV watching!

  6. I am sure Julian will write a HEA for Edith.
I am probably one of the few people that prefers Mary to Edith.
Edith found out about Mr.Pamuk and Mary and spilled the beans and in the process ruined Mary's life.
And I am hoping for Baby Bates.
