The double-decker buses in London are among my favorite English things. The front seats on the top level offer a panoramic view. I don't even mind traffic jams much, there's so much to see. I've taken the 38 to Victoria Station to catch the train to Brighton. The 24 carried me up to Hampstead Heath, starting to flower at this time of year. On the 73 I cruised through Islington, past Angel Station and quirky shops. I confess that I've ridden London buses to the end of their routes, and then come right back again, just for the pleasure of moving along high above the streets and observing. Sometimes the end of the line is a nice surprise, sometimes a prosaic spot with an exotic name. But the fun is in the journey. Happy spring!

You've seen them, those monthly subscription boxes. They have them for everything now. Makeup, Clothes, International Foods, Dog Toys, Snacks, Wine... My daughter got me a six month subscription to Birchbox, and I enjoyed it. Every month, I got 4-6 cool samples of new hair, perfume, or makeup products. And it was fairly affordable. But it ran out. Instead of renewing mine, I returned the favor and got six months of Birchbox for her. And then I moved on to the big guns. I saw that Celebrity Stylist Rachel Zoe had a Box of Style and I wanted in. At her webpage , you can see that past Boxes of Style contained some high end cosmetics plus designer label accessories. Each Box of Style, Zoe boasts, contains over $300 worth of merchandise. This year one of my major projects has been how to bring more joy into my life. I have implemented a few strategies to make this happen: 1) See more of my friends     I am in two books clubs and I adore those meetings, so I try to see more of my friends from those groups even when we're not officially talking about a book we've read. Friends = laughter and joy. 2) Work less     As I work and commute about 50 + hours to my day job every week, this goal can be challenging. But that is what driving while singing at the top of my lungs is for.   3) Do a little yoga    I am inherently lazy, so this one is very hit and miss. But on the days when I actually get up a little early and    stretch in front of my beautiful view, it always sets my day on a joy-filled course. 4) Eat chocolate    Chocolate ALWAYS brings joy. It’s not exactly spring here in Illinois, but it has warmed up enough that the snow has become icy rain. Yuck. There are moments when my Kitty Cinnamon braves the outdoors and comes back with wet fur and muddy paws. She seems to enjoy that way more than I do. So I’ll let you guess what I do when it’s gray and yucky outside.   1.         Nothing different. I work inside . So rain or shine, I’m sitting in my same chair trying to figure out how the hero can be heroic and how the heroine will finally give him the answer (to whatever question he has). 2.         I can’t work in darkness and my writing chair is right next to a window. So I sit and stare at the gray day and curse the weather while getting nothing done. 3.        Write blogs. Duh. March. Madness. Mr. R has had it for MONTHS, as he followed the path of his beloved NCAA basketball teams to the end of the season. As of this writing, he is watching a play-in game for two teams he has never expressed any interest in, just because one of them MIGHT play a team he is rooting for AT SOME POINT. But hey, he can have his fun, because there's a whole other tournament going on for romance novels. It's called the DABWAHA , and it will seriously add to your TBR piles. Hi everyone, Brooklyn Ann here. I'm in the stages of wrapping up my 4th Scandals With Bite novel, HIS RUTHLESS BITE and writing my 4th Brides of Prophecy novel. Anyway, to explain the title of my post, like many authors, I spend a lot of time on social media to interact with my readers and chat with other authors. But one downside of being on social media is seeing all the political posts, seeing people being so hateful to each other. There have been times where it made me so depressed that I had writer's block. However, thanks to my readers and fellow authors, I've also seen lots of happy news, received excellent advice, and gotten lots of good book recommendations. I've been remembering to read more books with happy endings, which inspire me to get back to work on creating my own. Instead of focusing on all the hate in the world, I'm focusing on love. As a longtime LA resident, I can admit that the city has its faults, including crowds, smog, traffic that seems to get worse by the year… but every now and then, something pretty awesome can happen here. Like a bona fide rock star stopping by to give a free lunchtime concert for his fans. Just two weeks ago, Elton John performed for about an hour in the parking lot of Tower Records on the Sunset Strip, to promote his new album and thank West Hollywood for supporting the AIDS Foundation. Not surprisingly, a huge number of people turned out, cramming the parking lot and lining up on the sidewalk outside Tower Records.  Even better, AOL live-streamed the whole event for those who couldn’t be there in person, so guess how I spent my lunch hour? I get to play with characters who merely passed through an earlier novel. For example, Dusty James was just a name in book #2 of the Night Stalkers series,  I Own the Dawn. In book #3, Wait Until Dark, he actually had a tiny speaking role. And then he insisted that he had a love story of his own to tell, which came to life in The Ghost of Willow's Past : That's the story that got me started.
