Last fall, I had the chance to work on a historical romance anthology with authors Shana Galen, Vanessa Kelly, and Kate Noble. I’m delighted to call all these ladies my friends—but before I got to know them at all, I was a reader and fan of their work. As you can imagine, it was a lot of fun working with them.  The result? An anthology called A Gentleman for All Seasons . We each set a novella during a different season of the year, with locations, characters, and events peeking into the different novellas to unify them. But. Each novella can also stand on its own, and so we’ve got some choices for readers. Maybe you want the whole anthology? Great! Go for it! But if you just want one of the novellas? We’re offering that choice too. Within the next few months, we will all re-publish our novellas as stand-alone titles. When a writer has a book due the same day her daughter goes back to school in August, it’s time to get creative about the summer schedule. Last summer, my husband and I found a great latchkey program for Little Miss R. She’s a very outgoing kid, and she loved what was basically an endless PE class with dozens of other children. (I was very different at her age.) This year, that program filled up within a few hours of opening enrollment, so we’ve had to get creative. Summer camps at the Y? Check. Public science camps? Ok. A few art classes? Add those in. And some time with the grandparents? We can do that too. Every week this summer will be a little bit different. To Little Miss R, this is more amazing than ever. To control-freak me…well, let’s just say I’ve made a biiiiig calendar for the summer.   If you have school-aged kids, how do you keep them occupied during the summer—especially if you need to keep to a work schedule? My birthday is coming up on Sunday. I'll be...well, it doesn't matter how old I'll be. What matters is that my favorite way to celebrate has, as far back as I can remember, involved books. When I was a child, I always asked for Black Stallion books for my birthday. My favorite wasn't a book about The Black at all, though; it was a fictionalized biography of the great racehorse Man O'War. It has a new cover style now, but this was the one I imprinted on. Once I got a little older, I asked for Baby-Sitters' Club books. Or Nancy Drews. Lois Duncan novels. Books of Dave Barry columns. As a teen, I started collecting Agatha Christie's mysteries, and I asked for the titles I hadn't been able to find at my local bookstores. I still have them all. Hey, it took a long time to collect these. When I hit college, I was just as likely to ask for classics I needed for my English degree as I was to ask for something for fun...until I discovered romance...

June 29th? Im. Possible. Ok, not impossible, but the summer has flown by so quickly that I can hardly believe July is almost here. I've been keeping busy with my upcoming releases from Sourcebooks: the Romance of the Turf series, focusing on  a talented but troubled family at the heart of Newmarket's Thoroughbred-racing scene.  I've just finished copyedits on the introductory novella, "The Sport of Baronets," which will be out in January. Not long ago, my daughter (known online as Little Miss R) brought this essay home from her first-grade class. Look at that! I have a cool job! I was pretty delighted by this. This past weekend, LMR picked up a pretty bad virus that kept her home with me for four days straight. To pass the time on one of those days, I decided to interview her. Here's how it went. Not long ago, I read a book called The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up . "Oh, great," said my husband when he saw the book in my hands. "Now you're going to want to organize everything." How well he knows me. See, I tend to work better when the things around me are organized. Maybe it's because the inside of my head is already a chaotic place. Maybe it's because I'm easily distracted. Most likely it's a combination of both. Whatever the case, Mr. R has learned by now: if the story ideas aren't flowing, or if a deadline is getting near, I'm probably going to start going through clutter. In the past month, I've completed a quick revision on one book, turned in another, and am now working on a deep revision of the first book. (If at first you don't succeed...) I've also made an embarrassing number of to-do lists and poked through corners of the house I hadn't looked at since we moved in almost ten years ago. And...
