RWA GOODIE BAG GIVEAWAY!

I had a fabulous time at the RWA National Conference in San Antonio, and though it was super hot there (99 or 100 every day), it's still a very beautiful city. I wish I'd taken more pictures! The Riverwalk... Visiting the Alamo  Signing Rebel and Wildcat at the Readers For Life Literacy signing.  Hanging out with my buddies Sara Humphreys and Carolyn Brown. Riding home from the Sourcebooks dinner in Cinderella's pumpkin with Terry Spear and Mia Marlowe.  Tying for second place in the Prism Awards Futuristic category with Wildcat!  But now it's time to share the goodies with those of you who weren't there.  Since I have two tote bags, there will be two winners, so post a comment or use the Rafflecopter for your chance to win! Contest limited to USA residents.  Winners to be announced on Saturday, August 16th. Please include your email address in your comment so I can contact the winners. ...

Conference Recap + Giveaway with Editor Deb Werksman

Enormous shout-out to all the authors who attended RWA Nationals this year and made it the BEST EVER! That includes our Sourcebooks authors, who are incredibly enthusiastic and full of energy. At our hosted signing, every single author ran out of books. We were thrilled to welcome some of our newest authors into the house at our author dinner, where the food was fabulous, the good cheer was flowing (and there was a conga line to prove it), and the ride back in Cinderella horse-drawn carriages was the highlight of a truly fabulous evening. We are grateful to all the bestselling authors who brought their wisdom, experience and valuable information to share with the entire community. And, we loved meeting aspiring authors who came to learn, to grow, and to perfect their craft. The Sourcebooks team had nonstop meetings with buyers, reviewers, agents, editors and industry professionals from around the globe, exploring innovative ways to connect ...

On the Road to RWA

This year, for the first time, I'm attending the national Romance Writers of America conference. But I'm not going to talk today about how excited I am to meet my editors and agent in person (for the first time ever!). Or how many authors I'll be fangirling over. Or the workshops, or the chance to talk with author friends, or the books galore. Nope, today I'm just going to talk about getting there. I live in the Midwest, but not near any travel hubs. So flying can take quite a while, especially since I can make flights get canceled with my mere presence. (It's a gift.) But with relatives at each coast and to the far north and south, travel is a necessity. I just prefer to go by car when I can. So I'm road-tripping to RWA--today, actually. I've scheduled this post ahead of time, because when you read it, I'll be cutting my way southward to San Antonio. I'm bringing music, snacks, and--courtesy of my library--a few audiobooks. My hope is that ...

RWA National Conference: What NOT to Do in San Antonio

I'm pretty excited about the RWA National conference in San Antonio. It's only a month away! If you're a reader, you should attend the huge multi-author booksigning on Wednesday, July 23 at the San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter Hotel in the 3rd floor ballroom. Admission is free, and all proceeds benefit literacy programs. If you're an author, get out of the hotel and see some of San Antonio. It's a fabulous city. It's only three hours from Houston, so I've been many times. The Riverwalk is always fun. There's lots of shopping, lots of history, and fun things for the kids too like the Alamo and the Children's Museum. But you know what's not fun? SeaWorld. If you're going to San Antonio and bringing the family, think twice before going to SeaWorld. I've never been a fan of SeaWorld. Whales and dolphins weren’t put on this earth to dance in pools to synchronized Christmas music. You don’t even have to believe in God or a higher power t...
