A New Life for Christmas

by Olivia Cunning I haven't blogged here at Casablanca for a while. I think the last blog I did (other than my Double Time launch post in November), was when I had just moved to Galveston, Texas. I love it here, if you're wondering. Best move I've ever made. So that was a big change. Wearing shorts and sandals and taking walks along the beach in December. Yeah, that was a BIG change over life in Nebraska. Well, things have changed a lot more for me in just the last month. First, thanks to the success of Double Time , I became a NYTimes and USA Today best-selling author. I never aspired to make the lists. Did I want to? You betcha! Did I think it would happen? If you'd have asked me that in June, I would have said never in a million years! Another thing I would have said would never happen for me in a million years is making enough to support myself and my college-attending son with my writing income. I'm a single mom. I put myself through college and ra...

Double Time Launch Party!

by Olivia Cunning The day has finally arrived for Double Time 's release. It's time to party like a rock star! You're all invited. The guests of honor are Trey Mills, rhythm guitarist of Sinners, and Reagan Elliot, rhythm guitarist of Exodus End. And that other guy on the cover, Ethan Connor. He's Reagan's um, bodyguard. Yeah, that's it. Her body guard . No rock star party is complete without music. The official Double Time playlist can be found here , but since everyone's musical tastes vary, I won't subject you to any melt-your-face-off metal. Turn on your music of choice and dance. We won't judge. Over there is the swan ice sculpture. I'm not sure why we need an ice sculpture, or how you go about chilling things with said ice sculpture, but we're partying like rock stars, so an ice sculpture is required. Would it be appropriate to stick the ice swan in a big bucket of beer? Probably not, but beer is one of the rock star foo...

Baby, It's Hot Outside

by Olivia Cunning I've been in my new home in Galveston for almost three weeks now. Here's what I've learned so far: 1. Driving down Seawall Boulevard on the weekend is life-threatening. Have you ever seen someone do a U-turn across three lanes of bumper-to-bumper traffic, so they could parallel park on the opposite side of a four-lane road? I have. More than once. 2. Half of the state of Texas congregates in Galveston Walmart at ten a.m. on Saturday mornings. Not fun. I guess I didn't need ice cream that badly. Lesson learned. 3. It's hot outside, baby. For the entire month, it's been a consistent 90 degrees with 80 percent humidity. It doesn't even cool down at night. There is some relief when it rains, but within half an hour it's back to 90 and then all that rain evaporates and we end up with 90 percent humidity. I don't mind heat. Really, I don't. Humidity doesn't bother me much, either. Yes, my hair currently looks like it had a...
