When Princess Galen Threw Me Under the Bus

My friends and fellow Sourcebooks' authors Tera Lynn Childs and Tracy Deebs had a signing Friday evening in Houston. I headed over there after gymnastics with my five-year old in tow. The signing was held at a children's bookstore, so I figured Princess Galen could look at children's books while I listened to the authors chat. This sort of worked, and at the end of the evening, I got in line to get a copy of Powerless signed.

Princess Galen got in line with me, and a reader in front of me recognized me and Princess Galen.

Reader to PG: How does it feel to have a famous author as a mom?
Me: Oh, I'm not fam--
PG (interrupting): It's horrible! She works all the time and never plays with me.
Me: Gasp! That is not true!
PG: Yes, it is. You never, ever play with me!
Reader: Oh, I think it's my turn. Bye.
Me (hissing): How could you say that?
PG (smiling): I'm just kidding.

This is how books like Mommy Dearest start. I anticipate Princess Galen is saving up every slight for her memoir now.

But something good did come out of Princess Galen's betrayal. I have a signed copy of Powerless to give away. And since I love to support my Sourcebooks' sisters, I also have a copy of Born Wild by Julie Anne Walker, and a signed copy of The Duke's Disaster by Grace Burrowes to give away too!

Just comment below and tell me if our kids or someone else you know has ever thrown you under the bus. I'll choose a winner randomly and post the winner on Sunday. PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR EMAIL IN YOUR COMMENT SO I CAN EMAIL YOU IF YOU WIN.

  4. My girls do that with my father every chance the get, usually around dinner time when they want a snack and I'm putting dinner on the table in 15 minutes. "Grandad, mom hasn't fed us in 4 days and we're STARVING!" As I yell from the kitchen that dinners almost ready, my father tells the girls (11,11,16) that his baby granddaughters are starving (coughcough) and need some snacks before dinner! I just roll my eyes at this point and let granddad spoil them.

  5. Shana,
I just love your Princess Galen. Can't remember if my children ever did but my 32-month-old grandson does regularly. Two of his latest:
    Me: Who is Lita?
    Him: Mama
    Hubby: Who is Ben?
    Him: Papa
    A friend: Who is Antoine?
    Him: A beautiful boy

And just yesterday, while my son's girlfriend was getting dressed and grandson wanted to go in their room.
Me: You can't go, Delphine's getting dressed
    Him: Delphine is naked

He's making us laugh so much.

    2. No, not at the dinner. When she brings him to meet you for the first time, that's when you say, "Let me show some pictures of PG when she was a child." ;) Victory is yours.

      P.S. My dad did this.

  8. Mine threw me under the bus at the dentist, well at least I took it that way. When the hygienist asked if she brushed her teeth twice daily, she said she only brushed them once daily. I was horrified, as since she was little we have brushed twice a day. It felt like being thrown under a bus.
Time to bring in Mary Poppins. :)

Tinker to Dad (trying to convince us to keep a kitten she's been nursing back to health): Mom said to ask you!
Me: Ummm, no I didn't. I said NO.
Tinker: But you know you want him.
Me: I'm not ready for another kitten yet (I just lost my precious Milo on Mother's Day)
Tinker: But he makes Riley (our boxer/border collie mix we just found out has lung cancer) happy.
    Geez!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. my daughter has thrown me under the bus countless times. she also threw her Grandpa under the bus about something, too. Grandpa would have his morning & afternoon coffee. With toddlers being curious about everything, Grandpa let my son have a spoonful of coffee. I have to take this son to the doctor and she tells the doctor, "Yeah, Grandpa lets ***** drink coffee!!" So, i had to explain it to him all the while one of his eyebrows was raised...

  19. My kids threw me under the bus by telling their teachers that all I did was read and shop! Thankfully, many of their teachers were readers and during conferences we talked about books! LOL. I have no idea why they thought I like to shop because I never did. Oh well, I can't wait for their kids to throw them under the bus.

That's wonderful of you to support your fellow authors, I am sure they appreciate you, even if your daughter doesn't the way she should, lol. Thanks for the giveaway.
