Chick flicks are like romance novels: they give you a dose of feel good when you need it most. Do you have a "go to" movie that never lets you down?
For me it's Leap Year.
In fact, Leap Year is my #3 all-time favorite movie. I know...You're thinking, "She numbers her favorite movies?"
I do. Don't judge me too harshly. Maybe that's why I love 'Anna' in Leap Year? The Amy Adams character is a control-freak American redhead who falls for a dark, brooding Irishman struggling to hold onto his small town pub. He's all wrong for this upwardly mobile Boston woman set on marrying a cardiologist.
Declan, the movie's hero, is brusque to the point of rudeness and cynical about love. Yet, he knows just the right the moment to pull out the chivalry card. He saves the day and wins hearts with an unassuming smile.
And here's the other interesting Leap Year fact: My go to person for chick flick recommendations is my husband, Brian. He's the one who told me about this cute romance.
With busy family schedules, we rely on Pay-per-View for many Friday night movies. Brian travels a lot for his job, which means logging lots of air miles. He typically works while he flies, but he'll check out the airplane movies and come home with his, "You'll like this" recommendation.
The ultimate seal of approval is the "DVD-worthy" movie in our family. That means we decided to buy the DVD to keep the viewing fun going for years to come. Okay, so my sons don't see the charm in Leap Year like I do, but I've seen plenty of Star Wars and superhero movies in my lifetime. It all balances out.
And I won't even tell you how many times I've seen Leap Year! Or how many times I watched it in a row one Saturday (4 although my youngest insists the number is 5).
What can I say? I needed a cute romance fix. I even love the soundtrack. That's how I discovered the singer Colbie Caillat.
One of these days I'll tell you about the other movie I've seen even more than Leap Year. That'd be #1 on my all-time favorite movie list.
Now it's your turn. What's your melt-my-heart-go-to chick flick?

I haven't seen this one, but I have heard good things about it. I need to put it on my TBW list. It's getting longer and longer, and one of these days my daughter will be old enough that I get to watch something on it!
ReplyDeleteHi Shana! That's right, you're in the fun Disney stage. My boys loved the animated "Robin Hood" movie, "The Little Mermaid," and "Dinosaur" among others. We'd watch and watch and watch again those same movies. We did the same thing with books --- read and re-read and read again the same beloved books. "Leap Year" is so cute. I still haven't figured out exactly why I love it so much, but it's a keeper. Have a great day!
DeleteHi Gina!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely "I know where I'm going" made in 1945. Light on plot, but just charming and witty. Full of atmosphere and eccentric characters. It always makes me happy.
I loved LEAP YEAR, and only saw it recently. So sweet, so funny! It's one that I will watch again and again. And I adored his accent. ;}
