For those of you who follow me on twitter (@JadeLeeAuthor) or Facebook (Jade Lee Author), you know that I’ve started something kinda weird with @CindyDees. Guess what it is:
A. Mystical Yoga – we stretch, pose, and pray to the God of
Flexibility that we don’t break something.
B. Disposing of 27 items a day for 9 days in a row.
C. Using burning sage to smudge out all the evil spirits in my
whole house room by room. Yes, I did accidentally set fire to my hair.
D. Tossing out shoes. You read it right–shoes. Every ugly, worn,
pinching, or otherwise annoying pair.
Answer: B – I’m sure there’s all sorts of numerological reasons
for the 27 items for 9 days in a row. The idea is that clutter holds space in
your life. If you want new experiences to come in, you have to get rid of the
old crap. So after 9 days (if you miss one, you have to start over) something
magical is supposed to enter your life. I’m on day 8 right now. So far what’s
entered is dust and a sense of accomplishment. Yup, all those little things
that I swore I’d deal with...I actually did. Well, not all of them, but a lot!
I’m very proud of myself.
As for the other choices, praying to the God of Flexibility is
what I always do on the rare occasions when I attempt yoga. Burning sage is
something I’ve done once and yup, don’t hold that stuff too close to your face.
Or maybe when smudging you’re supposed to use the smoke, not the fire. As for
tossing out shoes–well, I have been as part of the 9 day clearing out, but
that’s not all I’ve been getting rid of.
Here are just some little notes about my mystical cleansing
experience. I tossed huge piles of expired make up, some I hadn’t even opened
yet. But do I really need sparkly blue eyeshadow from a decade ago? This is a
picture of my trunk filled with items for my FIRST trip to Good Will. I have no
idea if they’ll resell any of it or it’s all destined for the dumpster. Don’t
care. It’s not in my house anymore.
Here’s a picture of my cabinet after I tossed all the expired
food. And yes, the sponge went too.
So what have you cleaned out lately? And after you’re done,
maybe you’ll pick up a copy of 50 Ways to Ruin a Rake. Check it out here: http://jadeleeauthor.com/50-ways-to-ruin-a-rake
Wow! I'm impressed. You deserve something magical to happen after all that self-discipline!
ReplyDeleteI can tell you about the numbers--this coming from a very amateur understanding of numerology. All numbers boil down to a signle integer by adding the numbers together. This means 27 become a 9 when 2+7 are added. 9 is a very spiritual balanced number because it's 3X3. 3 is a special number in all sorts of religions. (The trinity for example) Also, a triangle is the strongest of all structures.
I teach a workshop of choosing pen names according to numerology. (Wink)
Ooh! I kind of like the idea of throwing stuff out. I love to organize.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Shana--I love to organize too. My family thinks that's really odd. But hey, they all benefit when we can actually find things. :)
ReplyDeleteI tell all my clients to PITCH AND PURGE! It's so freeing and opens your space for more creativity. I usually start with 3 boxes: one for donation, one for selling and one for garbage. And please...if you haven't worn it in 3 years, it needs to go! Another good one: don't buy a new article of clothing or pair of shoes without purging something from your closet. Keeps you from overbuying. I can think of only one thing I hastily sold and regret to this day. (an antique chest of drawers). Other than that...haven't missed a thing. You go girl, don't give up. Please post pics when you're 27 days are up. Now, I'm itching to clear something out...my closet is calling. ;-)))
ReplyDeleteIt's so tough to throw things out, but it feels so good to have that space to organize things in! Thanks for the inspiration and hope you made it to the magical nexus!
