My muse for the last three books is a little rabbit named Bitty Bunny. I met Bitty the first autumn I lived in my current house and he kept me company all through the writing of my Broadswords and Ballroom series. When Mary Elizabeth had me laughing out loud as I wrote on my lap top on the porch, he would sit, unfazed, munching grass and clover. Here are some other bunnies who are not my muse, but who are super cute anyway. The baby bunny who lolls around waiting to eat... The rabbit from my cousin's yard who listens for predators.... And the ever-popular Highland bunny, in full kilt... Maybe my characters in my next novels need a bunny rabbit of their own. The Firefly/Serenity "family." Yesterday was Mother’s Day in the U.S., and it got me thinking about family. Romance readers are clued in to family in a way that other folks aren’t. I mean, romance is about relationships, right – not just the obvious relationship between the characters who are falling in love, but also, often, between the characters and their families. I’m sure there have been romance novels about loner orphan friendless protagonists, but I don’t think I’ve read any of them. Happy Mother's Day from Gina Conkle How will you celebrate the day? I'm going to see Guardians of the Galaxy II with my youngest son and planting some flowers with both boys. One of my favorite Mother's Day holidays came when my sons were ages 4 and 6. My husband asked my boys to make a Mom's Day card out of construction paper (read that as Brian forgot to buy a card). He got the crayons out and told the boys, "Draw pictures of mom's favorite things." Guess what was on the cover? A giant glass of red wine! Brian and I had a good laugh over that. As big as that glass was, I had to wonder how much they thought Mom loved red wine. I still have the card (it will eventually make it into a scrapbook). As moms we put a lot of pressure on ourselves. A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to go to Milwaukee, Wisconsin and attend the Barbara Vey Reader Appreciation Weekend. I was thrilled to be asked to attend and also excited because I’d never been to Wisconsin, although I’ve spent a lot of time in western Michigan on the other side of Lake Michigan. Anytime I have the chance to spend time with readers, I grab it. Especially if it means I get out of cooking dinner. I have to say this was one of the best events I’ve been to. The readers were so much fun and everyone was really nice. I wish I’d been able to see some of the city, but the weekend was packed. The highlight of the weekend was a luncheon on Saturday. All 60 authors decorate their tables with a theme. I chose the French Revolution since I have a book set during the French revolution coming out this summer. Here are a few pictures. Hey, everyone! I was recently fortunate enough to actually cross off the # 1 item on my bucket list--namely a Mediterranean cruise. I have so many pictures on my phone, that now I need to figure out which ones to share here. Wish me luck! Tiger Mix Ganzania flowers. The orange and yellow one is yet another version that popped out yesterday. They fold up and pop out a new flower, but most are different, all on the same two plants. It was one of two rescued plants that were dying at a hardware store, and they’re my favorite because of all the unique flowers. And I was excited to learn that an unnamed plant I rescued at the same hardware store last spring is a gorgeous daylily, unique color from my others. It was like Christmas when it flowered! In writing, each of my stories has to be unique also. I’m finishing up book 25 in the wolf series. They’re all stand alone, so no need to read them in order. I turned in Flight of the White Wolf–and now am finishing up, and finishing up, and finishing up The Bounty Hunter Gets Her Wolf.
