Happy National Blow Stuff Up Day.... I mean, 4th of July!

The 4th of July is one of the times I am especially happy to live in one of the most beautiful cities in the United States, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. It is a gorgeous city on the lake and home to one of the biggest fireworks displays in the country. We're also near a few Indian reservations, so we can get better fireworks of our own. After all the ones they sell at the stands are not like they used to be. Remember when snakes got really enormous? Remember when sparklers lasted longer than 30 seconds? Remember when the flowers chased after you like they contained homing devices? Ah, nostalgia. Anyway, since I live downtown, I have the benefit of being able to see the show from my house. Before that the whole neighborhood gets together for a huge BBQ. We consume pounds of watermelon, ribs, dill cream pasta salad, and potato chips. We set off our own fireworks as the sky grows dark until we see this: So, Happy 4th of July to all in the US and happy belated Canada ...
