Hot New Covers & a Giveaway! By Sara Humphreys

There are a number of exciting moments when a book is published. The first, of course, is actually finishing the manuscript but then there are several other hot  moments. The hottest moment is when the box of final copies arrive in the mail from my publisher. I can actually hold it in my hand and see my name on the cover. That is smokin' hot! However, another hot experience is seeing the cover for the first time. When I see that email from my editor  and know that my new cover is in the attachment...I tend to hold my breath until it's finally revealed. The Sourcebooks art department never disappoints! Surprise me? Yes. Disappoint me? Never. This week I received not one, but two covers in my email and I thought I'd share them with you. Keep in mind that both of these are arc (advanced reading copy) covers and may change a bit. I’m in Love with… Romance Cover Photo Shoots!

As a publicist, there are parts of the book process that I have no part in—acquisitions meetings, copyediting and proofreading, page corrections… but I’ll be honest, all of those things make my head spin. However, I’ve ALWAYS been interesting in the whole cover process. I love getting called into a cover meeting and give my opinion—“I like that color and that image, but it should be cropped”—like I’m secretly an art director or something. So when our senior managing editor asked me if I wanted to go on a photo shoot, I said yes without hesitation! One snowy Friday morning, I made my way to the studio of Izui Photography, Inc. , and met our great photographer, Dick Izui! I was surprised how professional everything was—no matter that people were half-naked and barely knew one another in passionate poses.
