I have written 25 novels and a dozen short stories. I was talking with a friend who has a hundred novels and passed a thousand short stories a long time ago. And he remarked how no one believes how hard it is to start from scratch. In his case, he went on a three-year hiatus for a number of reasons and was once again staring at a blank page. In my case, I just finished my Angelo's Hearth series and I'm looking at the blank page of a whole new series. You would think that it would be easier because I just launched a new romantic suspense series called Firehawks, or will on May 6th with the release of Pure Heat . Like many of  you, I am a mom with kids who are starting a new school year. Our four sons are growing up faster than I care to admit and this year is a big year for all of us. My oldest boy is a senior in high school and has started the daunting college admissions process. Our second boy is a freshman in high school and he's tackling that scary freshman year with a brave smile--even though I know the kid is freaking out on the inside. Our twins have started sixth grade which means--middle school. I don't know about you guys, but I think middle school is the absolute worst. At that age they're all emotionally handicapped and full of burgeoning hormones--a recipe for drama. Oy. Needless to say, the boys all have a big year ahead. A transitional year. As fate would have it, it's a transitional year for me as well. I resigned from my full-time job over the summer.  I now have the luxury of being able to work from home, which allows me to have much more time for my child...

Back in the days of my DDJ (dreaded day job) my best friend and I liked to joke about running away to some tropical island where we'd lie about on the beach with native boys bringing us fruity drinks with little umbrellas. Matter of fact, those shared day dreams eventually led us to make our very first trip to Hawaii back in 1992 (yes, I still have the T-shirt, old and faded in the rag pile) ! However we were so busy sight seeing on that brief vacation (I think we were only gone 5 days because we both had kids at home) we only managed one brief afternoon on the beach. That was at Hanauma Bay, and alas there were no native boys. Also, our drink of choice was diet Pepsi.
