A Killer Character!

Today I’d like to introduce a character from my debut novel RACE THE DARKNESS. This character is quite different from the other characters in the book. He’s sweet and loving, and his breath is always atrocious. Meet Killer! He's based on my rescue dog Dobby. The following scene occurs between Isleen and an FBI agent who is attempting to use Killer as a therapy dog. “I’ve got something that might lift your spirits.” He reached into the strange-shaped duffel bag. Up close she could see the material was mostly made of mesh. He rummaged for a moment, then pulled out a little dog that was all skeletal legs, brindled fur, and ears three times larger than its head. It was the funniest looking canine she’d ever seen. “Oh my gosh. He’s so sweet. What’s his name? Can I hold him?” Kent’s face went serious. “His name is Killer. And before you hold him, I need to warn you. He lives up to his name—Killer.” “He’s mean?” Disappointment raised the pitch of her voice...

What I've Learned About Dogs

In July I made the mistake of stepping into a dog rescue storefront with my daughter. I came home with a foster dog, who is now our adopted dog. Who didn't see that coming, right? How could I resist those eyes? My daughter looks pretty pitiful too... I have always had cats (still have 2 cats), but I thought I understood dogs. Not so much. Unlike my cats, the dog also has her favorites, and she likes to snuggle with her bear (when she's not biting it). Dogs are also more patient than cats. Sparky will happily (sort of) consent to wearing dresses and other accessories. Cats like to be petted, at least mine do, but they like to make it seem like your idea. Sparky is pretty shameless when she wan...

Blame it on the mistletoe!

It's here! It's here! And it's all 'parkly (as Hope, my four year old granddaughter says)!   Can't you just feel the cold snow and smell Christmas when you look at the cover?   Sage is pouting a little bit because she didn't get to be on the cover but when I reminded her that she got to be the sassy one in the story, she felt much better.   The reviews have been great!     "'Tis the season for hunky cowboys and Brown has delivered one right to us... a holiday treat to be savored. 4 Stars" - RT Book Reviews "I felt like I was right there in the Texas Panhandle as Ms. Brown was describing the scenery....she is a master at building a story and the surrounding world." - Fresh Fiction "Written with the verve and sense of liveliness that marks all her books... It's a wonderful reading experience as it engages the mind and emotions throughout. It is a book that simply begs to be enjoyed. " - The Book Binge ...
