Tricks and a Treat!

I know the theme is “Things that go bump in the night,” but I can’t do it. I can’t write about dark, scary things. I’ve been told it’s because I have such an active imagination. Great for a writer, but bad for a woman whose husband loves Stephen King and horror movies. Speaking of Stephen King, I quote him when I want to explain why I’m not a horror fan. He said, “The innocent must suffer.” A writer should experience the emotions of her characters, and I actually suffer for the poor stupid girl who goes down to the basement in her bra and panties with only a baseball bat to protect her. We all know the thing that’s going to go bump in her night will be her head hitting the cold, hard floor. Ouch. However, an active imagination is why I’m getting great reviews and loads of fan mail. People like my books because they’re different. I’ve been told I don’t think like other people. At first I was a bit offended, but after mulling it over, I’ve decided I’m okay with that. A lot of write...

Launch Party - In the Heat of the Bite

Before we get into our launch party… Happy Independence Day to all of our fellow Americans out there. (And happy Monday to everyone else.) All right, now back to our regularly scheduled blog. Today we are super excited about this launch party. This is our 6th, in case anyone is keeping track, but how often do we get to gush about Knights in Shining Armor for a Regency set historical romance…? Well, when that Regency set historical romance has paranormal elements to it. Though now that we think about that, ALL of our Regency set historical romances have had paranormal elements to them. But we digress… IN THE HEAT OF THE BITE was an enormously fun book to write. Our heroine first appeared on the pages of TALL, DARK and WOLFISH in April of 2010. Rhiannon Sinclair is a member of the revered Còig coven, as their weather-controlling witch. Her emotions are tied to the elements. So when she’s happy, there’s sunshine. When she’s said, there’s rain. AND when she’s angry… Zeus and Thor have noth...

A Hexy Thanksgiving

“I don’t know if three turkeys will be enough,” Blair said, surveying the kitchen counters covered with roasting pans, mixing bowls, and various pots and pans on the stove. “Trust me, Jake eats a lot. There are all you can eat buffets that won’t let us come back.” “And you demolishing the desert table doesn’t have something to do with that? The turkeys are twenty-six pounds apiece. We’ll be fine.” Stasi covered the sweet potatoes with marshmallows and popped them into the hot oven so they could brown. She paused long enough to sneak a treat to Bogie who barked his thanks and floated toward his soft and comfy bed. “You did use cream and real butter in the mashed potatoes, didn’t you?” Irma wandered in with Phinneas, her spectral beau, in tow. “It’s what gives them the proper taste.” She heaved a deep sigh. “I miss eating.” She glared at Jazz. “You could let me change my wardrobe, but not allow me to eat? Get working on that spell, missy.” “Yeah, like that’ll happen,” Jazz muttered. “It’...

Chhhanges

Many writers will tell you they will begin on one path and suddenly find themselves on another. My fans know about my witches in my Hex series with the fun quirky titles. Do I love my witches? Absolutely! When I wrote The Best Hex Ever, I created Maggie, a kick ass witch and Declan, a very sexy half fire demon along with a mouthy teenager I’m sure many parents might identify with. My editor read this book in January and totally loved it. And along the way a light bulb went off in her head. The last thing I want is to disappoint my readers. The witches will be showing up here along with some hot demon heroes. I’m also working on a novella staring Thea that will hopefully come out this October. Below is the launch copy for my new series titled Demons Are A Girl’s Best Friend, which will also be the title for Maggie’s book, to be released in spring of 2011. First in a new hot and funny paranormal series by bestselling author Linda Wisdom, featuring sexy demon heroes, the latest hot pheno...

Nightmares

Hex Appeal has to do with Jazz unable to get a good night’s sleep. Except her problem isn’t insomnia. More like magickal nightmares that makes the monster in the closet seem like a fluffy teddy bear. After all, would you want to go back to sleep if you dream the vampire you love is tearing out your throat? Or you dream of a world that’s dark and dangerous where your life was threatened every step you took? What about you? Have you had insomnia where even counting a million sheep wouldn’t work? Warm milk doesn’t do a thing. Lavender only makes you sneeze and that glass of wine meant to relax only woke you up more. Or the kind of nightmare where you want to turn on all the lights, check inside all the closets and sit up with a baseball bat at hand? Have you woken up to see a figure standing at the foot of your bed? Or see a shadow at your window that shouldn’t be there? Or what about noises loud enough to wake you up and have you fearing the worst? What do you do? Do you face that dream ...

Witchy Visual Inspiration

We have the sexy guys inspire us for our heroes and they definitely make wonderful eye candy, but we also need that inspiration for our heroines. We always need that good balance in our characters of personality and a good word picture to help the reader see what we see. For me, it’s an artist, Molly Harrison. She draws these wonderful fantasy pictures of witches, mermaids and faeries that really reach out to me. And some of her witches were a great visual for me for Jazz. I have a lot of her pictures and intend to pick up more because I can see something for all of my witches in her artwork. At this rate my office will be covered with her pictures. As you can see it’s for a good reason. Some of the pictures have that snarky and quirky look that from the beginning I felt was pure Jazz and they all have that wonderful magick that can infuse an author’s writing. What about you? What do you want to see to help you picture your heroine? And if you want to see more of Molly’s work, head for...

Maybe Hollywood

I got word during the RWA conference that a producer was very interested in pitching Jazz and friends as a TV series pilot or movie. And now I’ve signed the contract for that producer to go ahead and create her own form of magic, hopefully finding just the right place to put Jazz on small or large screen. No guarantees but that’s fine. I figure it’s always nice to be asked and to feel that much interest. Although, I admit Fluff and Puff would really love to be stars. They consider it their destiny. :} Linda

The Countdown Begins

I realized this past week that Hex Appeal will be out in four months. Seems like quite a time, doesn’t it? But that comes down to about 16 weeks, 123 days. Wow! When I finished 50 Ways to Hex Your Lover I had planned on moving on to one of the other witches. Except Jazz let me know I wasn’t finished with her yet. That there was more to say. And who am I to argue with a 700+-year-old witch? So I took the story forward a few months and more problems popped up for her. You’d think after all her years in the mortal realm she’d know better, wouldn’t you? But Jazz being Jazz, it just doesn’t work that way. So now Jazz has nightmares. Nick’s sleep isn’t all that pleasant either. Irma’s making new demands just because she wants to. And Fluff and Puff? Well, they’re accused of the unthinkable. There Wereweasel that operates the Ferris wheel is missing and one of the bunny slippers coughed up one of his shirt buttons. They’re in magick bunny slipper jail and if they’re found guilty of this heino...
