Japanese Cover of THE FIRE LORD'S LOVER By Kathryne Kennedy

A big thank you to Rights Manager Sara Hartman-Seeskin for the sale of the foreign rights to Japan for THE FIRE LORD'S LOVER...AND for sending me a copy of the book. Here's a copy of the Japanese cover: How cool is that? I lived several years in Okinawa when my dad was in the Air Force, and have fond memories of the people and island, so this is especially thrilling for me. My son has a friend who is studying the Japanese language, and I'm looking forward to her translating some of the book to me. It will be fascinating to hear how my voice has changed (although I imagine much will be in the hands of the translator, hence her name right by mine on the cover). It's interesting that the book is about 2/3 the size of an American paperback. It also has a dust jacket, which you usually only see on hardcover books. Have I mentioned lately how much I adore my publisher, Sourcebooks? Below is a picture of my family in Okinawa, and the backside of me running a...

First Kiss Excerpt from THE FIRE LORD’S LOVER by Kathryne Kennedy

In honor of our month-long celebration of Valentine’s Day, I will be giving away an autographed copy of BENEATH THE THIRTEEN MOONS to one lucky commenter today (and look for another chance to win it in our grand prize drawing). So don’t forget to leave a comment and say hello! For today’s post, I thought I’d offer an excerpt from THE FIRE LORD’S LOVER, book one of THE ELVEN LORDS, cause book two, THE LADY OF THE STORM, will be coming to bookstores in August, and geez, I’m just very excited about it! Cass now stood facing her…new husband. She supposed she’d have to get used to that idea. Although she didn’t think she could ever get used to the coldness of his beautiful eyes. She’d hoped she could use the general to gather information about the elven, but right now he did not look like a man who could be used. Indeed, when his eyes met hers for a moment, a shiver of dread went through her. The few times she’d visited him, he had treated her with a disinterest bordering on contempt. She’d...

The Never Ending Story

Our theme for this month is endings and I have to admit, even though it's a pleasure to finish a book, I have a difficult time closing that door for good. Maybe that’s why I’m such a fan of series, because they could go on forever if I could write them. For example, in my recent release, BENEATH THE THIRTEEN MOONS, I originally created the idea of humans colonizing many different planets, and one true love altering the course of each planet’s destiny. I could make up as many worlds as I wanted to, along with another couple’s love story. I wound up selling another series and never went back to this original idea, but I’ve had readers who actually asked for a sequel to the world of Sea Forest (which I had never even considered, but once I thought about it, I realized that, yes, I could create another story with my hero and heroine’s daughter...). In my new series, THE ELVEN LORDS, I am going to wrap up the overall plot arc with the third book. But there are two prequels between the t...

Summer and movies...and of course, books!

When I heard that our theme for this month was summer, I had to smile. In other parts of the world, summer may be a time of family cookouts and camping and vacations. Winter is often the time to stay snugly indoors out of the snow and rain. In Arizona, winters are the best time of the year, where the temperatures are in the 70’s and everyone is out and about. But in the summer, where we hit temperatures of 120 plus degrees, it’s time for us desert-dwellers to stay inside. In the air-conditioning. The good thing is, we have large malls, movie theaters, and lots of water attractions. Since my skin is so pale, I have a tendency to avoid the water parks, so for me, summer is all about movies. (And shopping, but that’s a given.) I love the theater, the smell of popcorn, the drama of the big screen, the communion of a group of strangers sighing and laughing and crying over the same thing. And within the past few years, there are so many more movies that appeal to me. I have always been an av...
