Launch: Target of the Heart

by M. L. Buchman The Night Stalkers universe has just grown one more size. It all started with Emily Beale, Mark Henderson, and The Night Is Mine. Then it grew! There have now been six (6) primary novels released by Sourcebooks in the Night Stalkers world (with more to come, I promise).  But the world was so rich, so deep, and I loved these characters so much, that I added more to the sides. Then short stories came into being! And there are a whole bunch of them. (Visit my website or your favorite retailer for more information about those. Here's the latest one, Emily Beale's backstory.) There was a spin-off that gave birth to my on-the-edge (and sometimes a little over) wildland firefighters (Firehawks Hot Point is coming in August). They in turn had a smoke jumper series spin-off (the "Wildfire" books) and even more short stories. But it still felt as if there was a story untold. So, on April Fools Day (but I really did it...

Lighting it Up!

by M. L. Buchman On September 2nd, my characters Trisha O'Malley (short, Irish Boston, feisty, uppity, red-head, fantastic attack helicopter pilot) and Bill Bruce (tall, Scottish, Detroit, linebacker wide, stone silent, Navy SEAL) will collide head on in Light Up the Night! Available Sept 2, pre-order now! I won't say that I didn't have fun, because I did. Immense fun! Sometimes a romance couple is MFEO (Made For Each Other). They have challenges they have to overcome. They have trials and tribulations, personal histories and panic attacks (as much as one of my alpha heroes or heroines ever does). Trisha and Billy the SEAL (as Trisha calls him), not so much. They're more like a head-on collision gone good. First, she rescues him when he really doesn't want to be rescued: “ Get out of here! You’re screwing me over!” “ There are two technicals coming in from the south and west,” the pilot shouted as he kept the blades at near takeoff, the chopper ac...

WAIT UNTIL DARK book launch!

Some books just make you smile, and this one does that to me every time. I love my "Night Stalker" series. The first four books have been a challenge and an education (This is #3 and #4 is in final editing and coming later in the year). Two more have been contracted after that. But Wait Until Dark just makes me smile. Let's see if I can figure out why. "What? You don't already know?" Nope, I don't! That's one of the puzzles of being a writer. When you're in the creative space, the whole "What am I writing?" or even "Is this any good?" sort of goes away. I mean, sure, I think those questions, but when the writing is going well I sure don't care about those questions, I just care about the next problem, puzzle, challenge, scene, paragraph, sentence, word... Even when I know all the broad strokes of the book, the "writing" space is about what goes next on the blank page and nothing much else. Sure it has to fit...

The Fine Art of Juggling

First off, I can't. I'm a complete and certified klutz. No, really. I took this series of tests once to determine what possible careers I'd be good at and my single lowest score, by a 30% margin, was manual dexterity. My penmanship was actually outlawed in tenth grade and for high school graduation I received two gifts: new skis for me and an electric typewriter (dating myself there) for my professors. When I use a ruler to draw a straight line, I get a thumb-bump (you know, where the pen bumps against your thumb and screws up the line) and then the ruler slips and I get a dragging curve that swoops down the page. My kid tried to teach me juggling with soft little bean bags... I broke things. The fact that I can type at all or ride my bike without falling off is a modern miracle. But lately I've been having some great juggling practice. In the last 7 days I've (in order) received feedback from my first readers on Book IV of "The Night Stalkers" ser...
