By Danielle Dresser Happy New Year! It’s always exciting to have a fresh start. I thought I’d share my list of things I’m working towards this year, in regards to publicity: 1. Social Media. It seems like everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, is doing it… Some people sing it’s praises, some people hate it. Secret confession—I fall in the latter category. However, it has become a great way for authors and readers to connect, and a fast way to get information out to a targeted audience. Are hashtags really the only way to reach that targeted audience? What can Instagram add to a romance author’s profile (aside from showing the world what you had for dinner)? How many pins does it take to make an impact on Pinterest? Here are some things I think will be making a big impact in romance/publishing and book PR and marketing: Evolution of the Author/Reader Relationship: we saw quite a bit of this last year, but I think 2013 will continue to see changes between authors and readers. Many of you have heard it from me, but social media is now a must when thinking about promoting your books. Authors and Readers can connect instantly—be it through a fabulous email, a Twitter discussion about a book, or a snarky review. By Danielle Jackson I don’t know about all of you, but I know that once Halloween is over, my mind goes straight into Christmas mode, and I basically forget about Thanksgiving until the night before when I’m up to my elbows in flour and sprinkles for various baked goods. But seriously, how could I overlook a day of good food, family and most importantly, giving thanks for the wonderful things that have happened during the past year. And let me tell you—there have been a lot of things for all of the Casablanca Authors to celebrate! BESTSELLERS This year, we had MULITPLE romance and women’s fiction bestsellers on both the New York Times and USA Today lists. What an incredible accomplishment on the part of our authors—I know how hard all of you work, and it is so gratifying to see all of it come to fruition by that lovely bestseller status: Grace Burrowes : New York Times and USA Today for The Heir and The Soldier Carolyn Brown : New York Times and USA Today for Love ...
