NEVER BEEN BIT Launch Party!!

It seems like a lifetime ago that Sorcha and Alec first stepped onto the pages in our second book – TALL, DARK and WOLFISH. Back then, Sorcha was a naïve lass, the youngest of her coven, controller of plants, exuberant and full of life. And Alec was head over heels in love with Caitin Macleod. Over the course of both our Westfield Wolves and Gentlemen Vampyres series, many things have changed with these two. And many things have stayed the same. So we thought (much like the ending of a much loved television series often does with a montage to music) we’d revisit some of our favorite moments of Sorcha and Alec (without the music, however.) TALL, DARK and WOLFISH Alec tries his hardest to win the affection of Caitrin, much to his friend Ben Westfield’s chagrin. (There’s still not a ton of love lost between Ben and Cait – one of those things that hasn’t changed.) Sorcha is the only witch within the Còig who accepts Ben as Elspeth’s husband. In fact, she’s the only member of ...

When There are Two

Getting “The Call” is different when your work as a team. For those of you who don’t know, Lydia Dare is the pseudonym for the collaborative work of Jodie Pearson and Tammy Falkner. So for us, getting “The Call” was a bit like a game of telephone tag. We’ll use our real names to make it clear which one of us is talking. Jodie: I was sitting at home, watching TV with my family and my cell phone rang. I looked at the number and noticed the area code was outside NYC. So I began to panic before I even answered. I rushed out of the room, yelling over my shoulder at my then husband, telling him it was a publisher. Then I flew into my room and tried to very calmly answer the phone, hoping I didn’t sound out of breath. Deb Werksman was on the other end and gushed about A Certain Wolfish Charm. I wish I could tell you all of the wonderful things she said… but I can’t. I didn’t hear them. My cell phone kept cutting in and out and I kept missing words here and there. But I didn’t want to ask her ...

Launch Party - In the Heat of the Bite

Before we get into our launch party… Happy Independence Day to all of our fellow Americans out there. (And happy Monday to everyone else.) All right, now back to our regularly scheduled blog. Today we are super excited about this launch party. This is our 6th, in case anyone is keeping track, but how often do we get to gush about Knights in Shining Armor for a Regency set historical romance…? Well, when that Regency set historical romance has paranormal elements to it. Though now that we think about that, ALL of our Regency set historical romances have had paranormal elements to them. But we digress… IN THE HEAT OF THE BITE was an enormously fun book to write. Our heroine first appeared on the pages of TALL, DARK and WOLFISH in April of 2010. Rhiannon Sinclair is a member of the revered Còig coven, as their weather-controlling witch. Her emotions are tied to the elements. So when she’s happy, there’s sunshine. When she’s said, there’s rain. AND when she’s angry… Zeus and Thor have noth...

Mentors and then some...

Whenever anyone asks for writing/career advice, the first thing out of our mouths is, “Are you a member of RWA?” In retrospect, we should probably print that up on business cards because we have said it quite a lot. And while the parent organization is great in many ways, we believe the true stars are the members of our local chapter - Heart of Carolina Romance Writers. Probably everyone feels that way about their own chapter, and we are no different. We often say that we don’t believe we would be where we are today without ladies and gentlemen of HCRW. Certainly Lydia Dare as an entity wouldn’t exist without this organization, as the two of us live more than an hour away from each other and would never have met without HCRW. But even before we dreamed up the idea of Lydia Dare, we were both struggling, new writers. And the seasoned authors of HCRW inspired, encouraged, and mentored us. In our newest release IN THE HEAT OF THE BITE, which hits shelves early next month, we dedicated tha...

To Hope or Not to Hope

(from the Jodie ½ of Lydia Dare) Hope… Hope, hope, hope. I spent most of yesterday hoping an idea would pop in my head for this blog. Alas… no luck. But I’m not one for hope, not most of the time anyway. I think there are two kinds of people in this world. Those who hope and those who don’t. And then there are people who name their children things like Hope, Faith and Charity… But now that I think about it, those people are probably in the first group of people. I’m in the latter. That’s not to say I’m a “Negative Nelly.” I think I’m just more of a pragmatist. I remember as a child the whole “Is the glass half full or half empty” question was posed to me. I must have been 8 years old or so at the time. My response, you wonder? Very quietly, I replied, “Its half a glass of water.” Pragmatic. That’s me. And sarcastic. A sarcastic pragmatist who doesn’t hope. There, now don’t you feel sorry for my family? I know they feel sorry for themselves. And then, there’s my poor,...

My Old Friend...

Ah, PROCRASTINATION – my old friend. Procrastination and I used to be really tight. (The Jodie ½ of Lydia, that is. I’ve never known Tammy to ever procrastinate.) Sadly, procrastination is an old friend I’ve been too busy for lately. And I kind of miss it. In school, I remember waiting until the last minute to finish a paper or start working on a project that was due the next day. Memories of all-nighters just flashed in my mind. But at the time, there had been too many fun things to do that prevented me from working on whatever I should have been working on. Trips to the mall, gossiping with friends, dances, football games, and my after school job. So whatever I needed to do got pushed and shoved aside time and again until it couldn’t be pushed or shoved any further. Enter the all-nighter. Of course, I could have done those projects with time to spare. *Sigh* I miss those days. Having time, that is, to either goof off or to complete all the work that needs to be completed. ...

Ah, to be a Lady of Leisure

I was so excited about this month’s theme – Pampering Yourself – because that is one of the things I do best! (The Jodie, very high maintenance ½ of Lydia Dare, anyway). If there is a way to pamper myself, I’ve done it. After all, life should be enjoyed, not simply endured. I am convinced that in an earlier life I was a very well-to-do Regency lady. I can’t simply be this spoiled being brought up in a middle class family, born in the 20th Century, can I? Doesn’t seem likely. Those Regency ladies had it all. * Stylish townhome in Mayfair * Gigantic estate(s) in the country * Beautiful gardens * Housekeeper – to make certain household chores are complete and satisfactory everyday * Maids – to do all the menial tasks we have to do ourselves these days * Cook - to have fabulous meals, teas, and pretty finger food always available at a moment’s notice * Butler – to be stoic and keep things running smoothly * Lady’s maid – to dress you and your hair and make certain you are always tu...

Lydia Dare Launch Party - IT HAPPENED ONE BITE

So, it’s Launch Party time!!! After spending four books with Regency era Lycans, our paranormal world has expanded to include some very sexy Regency era vampyres in our latest trilogy. IT HAPPENED ONE BITE was released March 1 st and is the story of warrior-witch Blaire Lindsay and the mysterious James Maitland, Lord Kettering… Prologue Black Dragon Inn, south of Edinburgh March 1797 Alpina Lindsay breathed a sigh of relief. It hadn’t been easy locating a vampyre none of them had ever met, but finally, after nights of searching for the man, there he was! He certainly matched the description of the man Fiona Macleod had seen in her vision. Leaning against the stone façade of the old inn, Lord Kettering drew deeply on his cheroot as he gazed up at the crescent moon, seemingly without a care in the world. Alpina narrowed her eyes at the gentleman who was, indeed, handsome, dashing, and more powerful than anything or anyone she had ever faced. The bairn in her womb kic...

First Kiss, First Bite - THE TAMING OF THE WOLF

Most first kisses come after all sorts of build-up and sexual tension. The characters know each other and either can’t deny their desire for the other or are terrified by it, but give in anyway. Neither of those scenarios are true for Dashiel Thorpe, the Earl of Brimsworth, and Caitrin Macleod, our hero and heroine in THE TAMING OF THE WOLF… On bare feet, Cait padded along the hallway and down the main staircase. The last place she remembered having her book was in the duke’s study. She turned the corner into the study and stopped short. Standing behind the duke’s desk was a tall man, one she’d yet to meet. Most of him was hidden in shadow, but his face was lit by the moonlight that filtered through the drapes. He was a blond Adonis, tall and lean. A vague memory of him, maybe from one of her visions, created unease within her. A small gasp escaped her throat when he turned his amber gaze her way. “I’m sorry. I dinna ken anyone was up at this hour.” She turned to leave. “Don’t go,” he...
