...by Deb Werksman   This year is the 80th anniversary of the publication of Regency Buck by Georgette Heyer—the very first Regency romance! I’ve always thought of Heyer as the perfect combination of Jane Austen and William Shakespeare—wicked smart, clever and funny, with a profound understanding of human nature.  A couple of my favorite passages are the one in The Talisman Ring where Ludovic and Sir Hugo Thane go into the cellar for a shooting competition (after Sarah Thane persuades them not to go into the courtyard, because Ludovic is, after all, a fugitive). Also the scene in The Foundling when Sir Lionel calls on his son Gideon and animadverts bitterly about the state of his son’s apartments, shattering the nerves of Gideon’s batman, who then vents on the hapless kitchen boy. And of course, there’s the denouement of The Unknown Ajax , and the highwaymen scene in The Convenient Marriage …I could go on and on… ...

Today is the release day of my first book: The Rake’s Handbook: Including Field Guide What am I doing? Or rather, what should I be doing? Blogs, tweets, facebook parties, I should be doing those. If I were smart and a seasoned author, I would be doing those. But I’m not.  Nope.  I’m too busy running around like Kermit the frog waving my arms in the air and going “Yayyy!” Pardon me for a second, while I do it again. “Yayyy.” You see it’s been an interesting journey getting here. How did it start? Some of you know it started in 2006, when I saw the BBC’s version of North and South . I ordered the first disc from Netflix and then did the horrible mistake of watching the show without having disc two in my hands. Big mistake.  Must. See. Rest. Of. Show. You see, as trivial as it seems, I was scheduled to be on the blog on this day, and we all make a pretty good point to post our blogs up early in the morning so all time zones are accommodated. But, Danielle, you have a million things going on… multiple work meetings every day this week, two book clubs, WEDDING PLANNING, a dog to walk, a fiancé to make dinner for, a dinner party to make dessert for, parents to visit, future-in-laws to keep in the loop, a brother across the country threatening to bring a complete stranger to the wedding as his date… missing the blog is ok, ok? by Amanda Forester Many things go through my head when I consider the pursuit of happiness, but one of the things I enjoy the most are the quiet moments I get to read a book. Honestly, in my busy life I’m happy just to have a few quiet moments to myself, and if I can share them with a book it’s all the better. I love escaping into a different world and living, if only for a while, the life of a swashbuckling hero or a daring lady (with beautiful long hair, a size 2 body, and the generous bosoms nature did not see fit to give me in real life - hey, it's my fantasy!) Summer is a particularly great time to read a book. My favorite place to read is at the beach, with the warm sand in my toes. When I was a kid I read books in a tree – not at all sure how I managed that one. These days I bring my own beach chair – the one with the arm rests and the cup holder. Oh yeah, that’s the life… Currently one of my passions has been reading the Georgette Heyer books. I’m not sure how I missed them...
