World Book Day by Gina Conkle

What is World Book Day ? The day honors authors, illustrators, and most of all books and reading. And it's BIG. I'm celebrating my second annual World Book Day giveaway on my website, and you're invited to take part. I'm giving away 12 print books (romance, of course!). You'll find more information at the bottom of this blog. But first... World Book Day is a UNESCO designated holiday observed in more than 100 countries. This year marks the 19th annual celebration of all things books and reading. Some nations hold the holiday in March, while the USA gives its nod on April 23rd. Why shine so much light on books? Because no one should be shut out of their basic right to an education... Because reading changes lives... Because illiteracy exacts a heavy price on the lives it touches... To promote all things reading, I'm hosting my second annual World Book Day giveaway on my blog.  Go to my website ginaco...

Cranky Thankfulness

It has been a rough couple of weeks for me.  I'm recovering from surgery to repair a rather large hiatal hernia and I'm finding that I'm not a good patient. Mainly because I have no patience. I want to be well and I want to be well now.  It's not happening.  The truth is that I have like six incisions and they all hurt and they're supposed to.  So fine.  I'll wait.  I want to eat comfort foods to help me through this.  But I'm not allowed to basically eat anything.  Seriously, it's like my doctor got a list of every food I enjoy and said, "Nope."  First it was a liquid diet and now I'm on to the really restricted, bland, soft, I-want-to-scream-with-hunger part of the diet which is where I'll be for another five weeks.  I think a six-week medically induced coma would have been better for everyone. I thought that the time recovering at home would help me to be productive with my writing.  That's not happening either.  My ...

What’s Your Reading Pleasure? by Shana Galen

The one thing all of us have in common is reading. No matter how busy I am, I try to take some time to read every day. Most of the time, I can fit about a half hour in. Sometimes I can manage an hour. Sometimes I have to wait in the doctor’s office or have my hair cut, and then I can really carve out some reading time. Yes, I am one of those people. Since I don’t have much time to read, I don’t have a favorite place to read. I can and will read anywhere. My husband doesn’t read much and likes to watch sports, so I often read in my bedroom, just because it’s quiet and I can concentrate. The problem with reading in bed is I usually fall asleep. I probably get more reading done at my daughter’s after-school activities. I always bring a book to gymnastics and ballet and find I can keep up with both the plot and the lesson for the day. I’m surprised I don’t see more moms reading while waiting for ballet to get out. Scrolling through one’s phone seems the most popular option....

Do You Remember Your First?

by Tracey Devlyn This spring was a season of many firsts for me. There are far too many to enumerate for this blog, so I'm going to share the highlights. March heralded unseasonably warm temperatures in Chicago. For two weeks, pale Midwesterners could be found walking around in short sleeves, flip flops, and ponytails. The warm temperatures made everything pop a month early. Then came April. Back to sweaters, jackets, and close-toed shoes. Sigh. But all was not lost. Another more precious flower blossomed, one that took six years to form the perfect petals and build the loveliest of fragrances. I call it Ode to A Lady's Revenge . Isn't she beautiful? This lovely April flower brought forth a shower of rainbow-laden delights. My (almost) first book signing My first reading My first magazine interview My first time on a best seller list And finally, my first book club Did you experience a FIRST this spring. Tel...
