Surf Bunnies

As someone who grew up in Huntington Beach, AKA, Surfing Capital of the World, surfing was more than a sport in our town. It was a way of life. And only appropriate that Fluff and Puff would catch the surfing bug. “Cowabunga, dude!” Fluff and Puff shouted as they pushed their bunny surfboards through the rolling waves. Naturally, the boards’ surfaces were decorated with Happy Bunny’s motto ‘Pscyho but cute’. Their bunny RayBans were clipped to their heads and colorful board shorts covered the lower half of their bunny slipper bodies. “Tell me again why we brought them here?” Jazz grumbled, adjusting her large brimmed hat and the towel protecting her long legs from the morning sun since she only had to look at the bright orb to get burned. Krebs shook his head. “Isn’t there some spell that would give you ultra sun block? You look like a mummy and frankly, you’re scaring the kids.” “The spell is used in a special cream and it gives me a rash.” She reached for the bottle of 300SPF sunbloc...

Fluff and Puff Hopping Down the Easter Bunny Trail

First off I want to wish my fantabulous agent, Laurie McLean, a happy happy birthday! Aries rock Batgirl! Fluff, Puff, and Horace set off today to deliver a birthday cake to you. If they arrive without the cake, well, what else would you expect from them? I love humor because it’s always flat out fun. And what’s more fun than Fluff and Puff? “You think he’ll be any nicer than the leprechaun?” Fluff asked as he and Puff made their way down the pink brick road (since they’re not heading for Oz, the bricks aren’t yellow). “I’m still sorta green.” He scratched one ear with the other. “And it really itches.” He tried to reach his tail, but his ear wasn’t long enough. “He should be nicer. He works with candy, not protecting his dumb gold.” Puff obliged by scratching Fluff’s tail. “And hello! he’s a bunny.” It had only been a few weeks, but the bunny slippers are still a pale shade of celadon that’s not very flattering. And rumor had it golden Horace was pretending to be an Oscar and now work...

The Hunt for the Pot 'O Gold

“Be vewy vewy quiet, we’we hunting lepwechauns,” Horace intoned, creeping along the lush grass covered path. He ignored the birds perched in the trees overhead, although he did growl when bird poo plopped on his head. “Dude, you have got to stop watching cartoons,” Puff muttered, nudging him with his ear. “Those cartoons are classics,” the gargoyle informed him, looking at the paths branching off. “We need to go left.” “We go right,” Fluff argued. “Hello!” Puff rolled his eyes. “We stay on this path for three more kilometers.” A small map hung from his ears. “Dude, didn’t you ever hear of GPS?” Horace hooted, flicking his claw at a map corner. “Dude.” Sarcasm dripped from the word. “Did you ever hear how our magick and electronics don’t mix?” “Plus Krebs wouldn’t let us use his,” Fluff muttered. “He said we already ruined four of them and he didn’t intend to see us screw up a fifth.” Horace came to a stop and stared at Puff, tipping his head to the side so far he almost fell over. “You...

Fluff and Puff Take on Black Friday

“Why couldn’t we stay home?” Puff whined from his spot in Jazz’s Marc Jacobs pink leather tote, as she wove her way through the hordes of people that pushed around Jazz. “Because you might come in handy.” Jazz had the grim determination you only saw one day a year. The day after Thanksgiving when serious shoppers came out to do their holiday shopping. She was there armed with credit cards, ready to do what it took to get all her shopping out of the way. Fluff’s ears curved over the top of the bag, then his eyes peeped over, widening at the mob around them. “I’m going back to the car.” Jazz tightened her hold on the bag. “No, you’re not.” She pushed her way into Nordstrom on the quest for the perfect gifts. It wasn’t long before she found a leather jacket for Nick, an even cuter leather jacket for herself, sweaters for Stasi and Blair, a wrap for Thea and she was still going strong. “I want a pretzel,” Puff demanded. “Later.” Jazz’s gaze narrowed as she spied a plum silk top across the ...

It's The Great Haunted Pumpkin Fluff and Puff!

"We have to find just the right pumpkin," Fluff insisted to his partner in bunny slipper crime. The slippers had silently moved through the house, heading for the front door that opened as if by magick. They immediately slid down the walkway to the sidewalk. Since it was heading toward midnight, the only ones out were those who preferred darkness for their deeds. Fear wasn't in the slippers' vocabulary, so they moved along without any worries. "I know we can find it at the pumpkin patch by the boardwalk," Puff replied, heading left."But it's this way!" Fluff shifted right. Since the slippers didn't have feet they had to do their own version of Rock, Paper, Scissors and Puff won. Magick gave them the stealth and speed to head down the street and over to the avenue that boasted shops appealing to tourists and the entrance to the ever-famous boardwalk with its midway and rides. Fluff and Puff managed to avoid the Weres' sharp eyes, since t...

How Fluff and Puff Handle File-Sharing Sites

There’s always talk about file sharing sites where readers find downloads of authors’ books. What they don’t realize, and sadly, some don’t care, is that these sites are illegal since it’s copyright infringement and in the end hurts the author. I always wondered what Fluff and Puff would do if they wanted to make sure romance writer witch Thea’s books didn’t have that problem. This is why I like having the guys on my side. Linda “Very cool,” Fluff crooned, using his ears to tap the computer keys. “Think it will work?” “Krebs did the basics. We’re just making it better.” Puff read off computer code that had more than a smidge of magick to it while Fluff typed away. “Okay, type all and then hit enter.” “Yes!” The slippers grinned as they slapped high fives with their ears and sat back to enjoy the show. ### “Perfect! I love file sharing sites,” the woman crooned as she clicked on the download button. She looked up at her friend. “This is Thea James’ latest hardcover book, no less. I’ll m...

When Bunny Slippers and a Gargoyle go to Las Vegas

“I can’t believe she left us on the side of the road!” An outraged Horace threw up his stony arms as he paced back and forth in the dirt. “This is gargoyle abandonment.” “We got tossed out too.” A disgruntled Fluff sighed heavily. “But it’s your fault for telling Linda she’s a lousy driver.” “Cutting off another car is not a crime and she should have cut off that eighteen wheeler. Just use your magick and zap us to the hotel,” Horace suggested.Puff shook his head. “Jazz bound part of our magick, so we’re limited this week. She said we behave or else and we’re not going to use it all up first thing.” Horace looked off to the side. “What is –?” Fluff and Puff looked in the same direction and watched the snake slithering their way. “AUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!” They leapt into the air and landed on Horace’s head. The gargoyle shouted and batted at them, but no way they were getting down. All three looked at the road as a rattletrap truck slowly made its way toward them then stopped. The man that cli...

Las Vegas Baby!

“You get the book?” Puff asked, practically bouncing up and down with excitement. “Yeah, but it wasn’t easy.” Fluff wiggled his nose and a yellow and black large paperbound book dropped in front of him. “Las Vegas for Bunnies,” they read the title in unison, awe in their voices. “You really think she’s going to let us go?” Fluff tipped an ear toward the book so the pages would move. “Sure, she will. Jazz wouldn’t take us, but Linda will.” Puff practically buried his nose in one page. “Wow, look at all these games they play. Even craps.” His dark eyes sparkled with mischief. Fluff read along with him. “Uh, Puff, that’s not the kind of crap you’re thinking of.” “What’re you doing?” Horace ambled over to look over their fuzzy shoulders. “Linda’s going to Las Vegas and we’re going to ask her to take us with her. We want to be prepared for anything,” Fluff replied. The gargoyle plopped down next to them and began reading. “Craps!” “Not that kind of craps,” the bunny slippers told him. His e...

Black Friday for Fluff and Puff

Fluff and Puff's Reading Hour

Puff – “Hey Fluff, Linda’s new book, Hex Appeal, is out!” Fluff (yawning while nibbling on a bit of licorice root) -- “I saw it when I went to Target with Jazz. She picked up a copy.” Puff (outraged) “You went to Target without me?” Fluff – “You were attacking that vacuum thingy Krebs had made up to zap our poop, remember? Jazz wasn't going to wait around while you killed it.” Puff – “Oh yeah. Dumb thing didn’t even squawk when I pounced on it. But I can’t believe you went without me! Did you get anything for us?” Fluff – “Jazz bought us some MilkBones.” Both bunny slippers brighten up since they love the crunchy dog bones “I tried to talk her into some Hershey Kisses, but she said no way. And she rearranged Linda’s book on the shelves and even put a few copies back in the Halloween section. They really should have put us on the cover.” Both bunny slippers do their best bunny slipper pout. Puff heads for the distinctive red and white bags and rummages through the contents. “A t-sh...

Hex Appeal Excerpt

Hex Appeal will be out in 10 days! Fluff and Puff in trouble big time where they're even in danger of being destroyed for eating a carnie. Namely a Were carnie. Will they go to Bunny Slipper prison? Will they be brought before the Witches Council, or even worse, the Ruling Council? Can Jazz find out the truth in time? Stay tuned. Namely, buy the book. :} Jazz was relieved it was still early enough that it seemed no one was stirring on the boardwalk. With the slipper bunnies non grata in the carnival area, she had to make sure not to be seen by the boardwalk manager, who made ogres look like sweet pussycats. “What the hell do you think you’re doing bringing them here?” Jazz froze. “Five steps,” she muttered, staring at the parking lot that was so near yet so far. “Just five lousy steps.” She turned around. “Well, aren’t we up early!” She used her perkiest witch voice. “How are you, Rex?” Rex (no one ever learned his last name) was a horror filmmaker’s dream—if he wanted someone who ...

Maybe Hollywood

I got word during the RWA conference that a producer was very interested in pitching Jazz and friends as a TV series pilot or movie. And now I’ve signed the contract for that producer to go ahead and create her own form of magic, hopefully finding just the right place to put Jazz on small or large screen. No guarantees but that’s fine. I figure it’s always nice to be asked and to feel that much interest. Although, I admit Fluff and Puff would really love to be stars. They consider it their destiny. :} Linda
