Brooklyn Ann's Top 5 Things To Do In The Summer

Now that the song is stuck in your head... Summer is my all time favorite season. I'm one of those people who turns blue if it's under 70 degrees (F) but the heat doesn't bother me much. Also I'm a bit of a hermit. Honestly, summer is the only time of year that I go outside. But I really enjoy it then, when I'm not freezing. Here are my top 5 things I love to do in the summer 1.) Reading, of course. Granted, I love reading all year, but summer is the only time I read outside. And there's magic in relaxing in the fresh air and sunshine with a cold drink and a book in my hand. My sweetie put out a swinging bench in a grove of trees in his front yard. I can't wait to get a cushion for it and lounge out there. 2.) Spending more time with my son. During the school year he has to go to bed early, but in the summer he can stay up as late as he wants. Some nights we both get to. We watch movies and usually have a TV Series o...

Why Vampires Were Perfectly Suited to the British Aristocracy in the Regency Era.

Hi, I'm Regency Paranomal Romance Author, Brooklyn Ann. My books feature unconventional heroines finding unconventional romance with peers who have fangs. I figured today I'd share why that works so well for me.  Vampires were perfectly suited for the British Aristocracy, which was a major reason why I put them in Regency ballrooms in my Scandals with Bite series. Here are the reasons why that works out so well: They're night owls. Most of the balls and operas and festivities in the regency went from dusk till dawn. A vampire's nocturnal behavior would be unnoticed in this environment. The Window Tax Seriously, there was a tax on how many windows one had on their home. People often boarded up their windows to avoid the tax. This was beneficial to vampires in that no one thought it amiss if they did so to protect themselves from the sun An Age of Enlightment In an age of reason, vampires are regarded as mere folklore. This disbel...

My 5 Favorite Things About Halloween

Halloween is by far my most favorite holiday of the year. It's the only time when all that is spooky and strange is nationally celebrated. Every October I am filled with childish glee and here are 5 reasons why. 1.) The decorations. I have a low budget, so I don't get to do anything special, but I love checking out the houses that are able to go all out! Author Jamie De Bree does a graveyard every year and I am so jealous! 2.) Horror Movies! From bone chillingly creepy to the cheezily craptastic, I LOVE them all. I have a post featuring recommendations varying from family friendly to nightmare inducing  here. 3.) The treats! Roasted Pumpkin seeds, candy, and creative goodies steal my heart every time. And I want this CAKE! 4.) Pumpkin Carving!!! Here are some I did last year: This year, I think I want to try doing Freddy Krueger from NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET. And of course, my FAVORITE part is: #5 Costumes!! I have never got...

Celebrating ONE BITE PER NIGHT! + Giveaway!

After what has felt like an eternity, the second book in my "Scandals With Bite" series is finally here! I celebrated on Saturday with a signing at my local bookstore. They put me in the kids' toy section which was kinda weird, but I still had fun. I also raffled off baskets full of goodies and books donated by my awesome fellow Casablanca authors. Again, huge thanks to you all! And I took pictures with some readers!  And speaking of readers, so far the reception has been very good.  This one from "Lover of Romance" still has me grinning. " The story starts with humor and witty come backs, and the you fall in love with the characters immediately. Vincent is a awesome hero....I could just kiss him all over I adored him so much. He is honorable, does have some issues thinking he is evil and all that, but he cares about others, and he is so sweet and protective with Lydia, you can't help but be charmed by his manner. Lydia is stron...

A Mortal's View of a Vampire's behavior: a deleted scene.

One time Ashlyn Chase posted a deleted scene from one of her awesome books and I thought it was such a fun idea that I'd share one from my upcoming release, ONE BITE PER NIGHT The only reason that this one was cut was due to word count and flow of the story. But my editor and I still thought it was hilarious. A little background info without spoilers. At the end of book one, BITE ME, YOUR GRACE , Angelica Ashton, Duchess of Burnrath and newly turned vampire is charged with sponsoring the Lord Vampire of Cornwall's mortal ward in society so he can marry her off before she finds out about the vampire world. And anyone who's read BITE ME, YOUR GRACE knows that Angelica is a rebel and adores mischief. One of her first acts of taking Lydia under her wing is to indulge in one of her favorite hobbies, dressing as a male and seeing sights of London that are unfit for maidens. And here's how that went:      ...

Sourcebooks Authors Rock RT 2014!

Two weeks ago I had the ecstatic pleasure of meeting several of my fellow Casa authors in person at the RT Booklover's convention. So this post will be all about my fan-girl bragging about that. I'd never before seen a streetcar or palm trees so this was a novelty. Right when I arrived at the hotel, and was having a cigarette outside and taking a picture of the streetcar and my very first palm tree (I know), a nice looking lady smiled at me and said, "Brooklyn Ann?" At my nod, she introduced herself as Victoria Roberts and I giddily gave her a hug. We didn't get to chat too much because she was on her way to check out a voodoo shop and I was waiting to meet up with my hotel roommate, Urban Fantasy author,Jess Haines, but I was still stoked. Then at the Mardis Gras, Sarah Humphreys grabbed me out of the crowd so we could take a selfie and I also saw Jade Lee handing out her infamous squidges. Apparently Shana Galen was there too, but I didn'...
