Besides working on books and tours and promotion and editing and bears, I've been bird watching and taking pictures of everything and anything that inspires me to appreciate everything around me, which help me with writing.
The female cardinal with seed crumbs in her beak:
And here is the male, have to have a HEA, right? And some sparrows in the feeders also.
Daffodils in early morning light with dewdrops licking their petals.
In with the new and out with the old on a rosebush. I could have just taken a picture of the beautiful leaves unfolding in all their maroon and green glory. The rose sepals (the leaves that surround the rosebud) are dead and why should I include old dead stuff? But that's what makes the photo truly interesting--the new with the old.
Water droplets on the pear blossom just opening up. I had to get a footstool out to take a picture of them and even so I had to reach way above my head to take a good shot, but it was worth it, don't you think?
Water droplets on the rosebush the next day. Another picture of rosebush new leaves would be mundane, but I was fascinated with the heavy, heavy fog we had all day long, and how the plants were dripping with tiny droplets.
Henbit from the mint family---a weed, and yet, aren't the flowers beautiful? When the grass is all burned out and the weeds are in bloom, nothing could be lovilier.
And that's what Silence of the Wolf is all about--seeing a woman who some would believe is a nuisance predator, when Tom and his pack see her as a woman who's fun, quirky, sweet, sexy and loving--and needs to be part of his pack.
I'm also still working on bear orders--have 3 Matheson Clan bears to do for an author, Vonnie Davis, who writes Highland bear shifters!
Sometimes my world seems upside down. But mostly just in my books and pictures. This is a picture of my barn reflected in a puddle of water. I was sitting outside trying to edit on paper, trying to get pictures of the birds, but then saw this fascinating sight. And had to take a picture of my upside down world.
I find inspiration in everything I do. Here is a cross-eyed momma tiger. She has three cubs she's still fiercely protective of, even though they are getting to be pretty big. But I love to watch the dynamics of them in play or her protectiveness or watchfulness. And that inspires me to write my wild animal halves.
I have a road runner who keeps me company, and I'm hoping he will get rid of some of my snakes. Yes, they're good for keeping the mice under control, but I had two snakes in the house last year, so...
And I visit wolf reserves when I can.
Or Scottish castles--this was the one that inspired me to write A Highland Werewolf Wedding!
And that is a picture tour of some of the things going on in my life, all of which influence me to write books like Silence of the Wolf!
From animal behavior to a Scottish way of life, to looking at our world a little differently--the dead sepals of the rosebush, and the henbit weed--and seeing the beauty of them still.
While I was writing this post, it was what I lovingly refer to as a vampire day--dark gray, overcast, foggy, chilly, the threat of freezing rain on the way. And I love it.
In my stories, I try to capture the world the wolves live in--and how they would feel in our world--what would they think of a vampire day? They'd love it too. Why? Because it's further camoflage for them. I think of humans running around in this weather, trying to stay warm and dry and not really noticing everything around them. And then not noticing the wolves in their wolf coats standing quietly in the brush and trees nearby, watching them.
In Silence of the Wolf, it's snowing--we get to go skiing, and that's fun too. I used to ski at Breckinridge, and once at Telluride in Colorado, but when I was skiing, who would have ever thought I'd be talking about a ski resort run by wolves! I want to go to THAT resort. It would be just too wolfishly delightful!
What about you?
I'm going to do something different here. I received some ARCs for Jaguar Hunt, so if you're feeling blue from the winter weather up north, it's time to jump into the steamy jungle with the big cats.
Two lucky winners! That way if you already have Silence of the Wolf, you can have the next title coming up!
My question then is are you ready to join Tom Silver in the snowy world of Colorado for some hot loving fun? And why. Or would you rather get hotter in the rainforests of Belize with another kind of hot shifter--jaguar! :) And why?
Thanks for stopping by to see my whacky world of inspiration!

Great photos, especially the barn photo, Terry. Sometimes looking at the world upside down helps us see things right. Always enjoy your werewolf books.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mason! LOL on looking at the world upside down. I found that the most intriguing picture to take! I'm glad you're enjoying the werewolves! :) I'm working on the 16th book right now!
ReplyDeleteI have always loved wolves (even tho I am a cat person). Would love to join Tom in the snow up in Colorado for some fun. Loved the pictures and sneak peek. Can not wait to read it.
ReplyDeleteBe sure to pucker up, because as soon as you're on the slopes with Tom... well... you're bound to have some memories. :) Thanks for loving the series!
ReplyDeleteOh my! What a decision! Terry - I'll go where-ever your imagination takes us! I LOVED Silence of the Wolf. I also enjoy seeing your wildlife, garden and weather photos and reading about the bears you make. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Linda! I'm thrilled you loved Silence of the Wolf!!! Tom's story was a long time in coming! :)
DeleteOh Terry how can I choose between the wolves and the jaguars I love them both. It boils down to, do I like hot or cold/summer or winter and well I'm a hot summer girl, so my wonderful wolves will just have to miss me because I really like the hot hot weather of the rainforest. Wonderful post and love the pictures. Thanks for another wonderful giveaway!
ReplyDeleteAngela C.
Thanks, Angela!!! After seeing all that snow up north, it makes me appreciate the heat down here more. Though I have to admit that when it gets hot, I'm wishing for some northerly weather!
DeleteGreat pics! Congrats on the new release!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Cheryl!!! I bet you're loving not working at the day job as much as I am and just writing our hearts out instead! :)
DeleteHi Terry, I loved Silence of the Wolf and had not problems picturing them running around in the snow we have been getting in our mountains this year, wave after wave so very good ski season this year. I really liked that our heroine was so capable and yet vulnerable to the care that Tom wanted to give her right from the start. I am however ready to head into the jungle and warm up now :). More than ready to read the new jaguar story. I also enjoyed the barn picture, quite unique and a very interesting point of view, good to look at things from a different perspective at least sometimes.
ReplyDeleteLOL, I bet you are!!! You poor thing. The jaguars will be coming out when it heats up here too! :) I'm thrilled you loved Silence of the Wolf! I bet you felt right at home there!!!
DeleteI don't like the cold, so I would be headed to Belize. Congrats on your release, Terry!
ReplyDeleteYeah, the snorkeling would be a big draw for me! Beautiful water. :) Thanks, Shana!
DeleteAwesome post :) Love those pics :) Hmmm I'm thinking Belize because while I love Colorado, I want to go someplace new and it would be purrrfect ;) Love me some big cats :) or okay I lie, I love all shifters but big cats have a special place in my heart :)
ReplyDelete*waves Hi!!
If you haven't read Terry Spear's books, you are missing out BIG TIME!!! :)
Thanks so much, Cassandra! LOL on big cats. When I had mine, they were pretty special. But the really big ones? I watched a video where this man waited for two full grown lions to recognize him, and then run up to him and give him hugs. I was like, "What???" But he had raised them from cubs. I thought it was interesting that they treated him like a wolf pack would treat a human who had become part of the pack.
DeleteAgain, thanks so much, Cassandra!!
I love Tom Silver and his wolf pack. Great powder, hot toddies, and hotter sex!! Can't get any better :-)
ReplyDelete~Lori~
LOL, Lori, now that sounds mighty intriguing! :) Thanks for loving the Silver Bros and their pack! :)
DeleteOh, what absolutely gorgeous pictures! I live in PA so I have to say I am ready for the hot jungles of Belize and a hot shifter-jaguar. I have to say I'm partial to the cat family shifters :) although I would enjoy any of them I'm sure. I have to admit I've not read you as yet but I hope to change that!!
ReplyDeletecatslady5(at)aol.com
Thanks, Catslady! Love taking pictures. It's my nice break from writing!! :) I bet you're ready for some hotter weather!!! :) Belize would be the perfect way to take the chill off. :)
DeleteI love watching cardinals. I hear them around here more than I see them, and I'm always delighted when they make their appearance. Spring is still some time coming here in CT.
ReplyDeleteOh, I bet, Sherri! With the freezing weather we suddenly had, my daffodils are now all face down in the jasmine. :(
DeleteBelize because haven't been there

Cool!
DeleteCongrats on your book. Cardinals are my favorite bird and have been since elementary school....something about the color red.
ReplyDeleteI'm so with you, Gina! I love them. The male always catches my eye, and the couple are so sweet! Thanks so much on the release!!
DeleteBoth of these books sound really good.
ReplyDeleteI have skied many times in Telluride and most of the other ski areas in Colorado. love those ski vacations.
JWIsley(at)aol(dot)com
Joye, how cool!! Telluride was the warmest skiing I'd ever done. We took off our hats and gloves and had a ball. Though I should say that we skied in PA and that was warm, and rainy. The snowy was melting beneath our skis!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! I'm anxious to read Silence of the Wolf. I absolutely love the book cover! I love looking a pictures of wolves. Congrats on another great book you've written.
ReplyDeleteMason Canyon and Marg Breece are the winners!! Thanks to everyone who participated!!! Cassandra, your book is on its way!
