And if you think I'm referring to Christmas, you're wrong! Despite "much mistletoe-ing" and "hearts glowing" in December, Thanksgiving is the holiday to rule all holidays, and I'm going to prove it to you! So sit back, grab a slice of pumpkin pie, and prepare to be enlightened, friends, for I give you:
1. No presents. I love giving to others, but the pressure of finding The Perfect Gift for dozens of friends, colleagues, business associates, and family members makes me want to hide beneath my desk and assume the fetal position. Can't we just stand in a big circle and pass a $20 bill to the person on our left? Guess not. But that's what makes Thanksgiving so awesome: We get to relax with our families and enjoy a good meal without the stress (and expense) of gift giving.
2. Football. I don't like tossing the pigskin, nor do I enjoy watching it, but I will gladly rest my head in hubby's lap and snooze on the sofa with the game playing in the background. It's a win-win!
3. Turkey. Remember the dad in A Christmas Story--the guy who keeps nibbling at the turkey before it's done cooking? Like "the old man," I am a bona-fide turkey FREAK. I'd roast a turkey every single day if I could. Don't believe me? Here's photographic evidence of my passion:
4. Autumn is superior to winter. Do we really need to debate this point? I think not. /gavel
5. Low stress. Between the parties, baking, shopping, decorating, wrapping, mailing cards, and having the kids home from school for two weeks, I often feel like I need a vacation after Christmas is over. But when Thanksgiving's over, I'm already counting the days until next November. Then I make a turkey sandwich and reflect that life is good!
Mmmm. Turkey!

The Top Five Reasons Why Thanksgiving is the Best Holiday Ever

Macy, loved your blog! I loved A Christmas Story!!! I have to say that I love both Thanksgiving and Christmas because family gets together and we have games and food and fun. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Macy! I love any holiday that brings families together. We always have plenty of laughs.
ReplyDeleteI like any holiday that lets me stay home, and Thanksgiving usually equates to a four day weekend, so I'm all for that. Christmas on a Tuesday might have the same result, now if only I could get Easter moved to a Tuesday....
ReplyDeleteThanksgiving is OUR family holiday! It's at our house and the door is open. That means the kids' friends who no longer have living parents, the kids' in-laws, or their friends are all invited to stop by any time during the day...for dinner, just to visit, to have pie or look at old pictures and remember "back when". It's a complete zoo and we love it! Then at Christmas they all stay home with their kids (because being the Big Momma of the family) I told them years ago that it was sinful for the kids to open presents then have to leave them behind to come to my house for dinner. AND Husband and I go to Florida for a week or two for our Christmas to each other...lookin' forward to both holidays!
ReplyDeleteGreat point, Grace. I forgot about the 4-day weekend. I also forgot to mention the best part of Thanksgiving this year: my sister is going to host it! Win-win-win!

I don't eat turkey, but I definitely think Thanksgiving is less stressful than Christmas. And I remember the pre-kid days when I got to take naps.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Christmas rates the highest for me! I actually get a little sad when it's over. I am probably one of the last people to put the decor away.
ReplyDeleteChristmas and Thanksgiving sort of run into each other for me. After the Thanksgiving dishes are done, it's time to decorate for Christmas at our house. We have a whole month of holiday. ;-)
ReplyDeleteThat turkey sure looked good...I am hungry. I love fall, AND winter. Crisp air, warm coats, mugs of hot chocolate and cookies!
ReplyDeleteI do love Thanksgiving! And Christmas. Actually there are few holidays I don't love. I enjoy having an excuse to get the family together and do something fun.
