Catch the WOLF FEVER!!!

You know, like catch the dance fever??? Oh, and yes, there's even some dirty dancing in the story! :) --speaking of dance fever.

The fun in writing fantastical werewolf stories that seem like they could truly be authentic is to look at the real world and turn it into a fantasy. Easy!

First though, I wanted to acknowledge my fans, who wished to see Carol's story. She's a secondary character in DESTINY OF THE WOLF, book 2, and although I hadn't "planned" to tell her story, fans wanted to see her find a mate who would be perfect for her after all the life troubles she'd had in the earlier book. So for all of you who wanted to see her find a HEA, thanks. And...she thanks you! Because without your emails and blog comments, it would never have happened.

When I began to write WOLF FEVER, we were having a flu epidemic, and I wondered--what would happen if werewolves got the flu?

And who would they call? The vet? Or the doctor? What if both of them are incapacitated? How about one newly turned werewolf who is a nurse and has always been a thorn in the pack leader's side? What if a gray wolf from another territory is trying to prove she doesn't have psychic abilities and is denying any further interest in her, who is also as much as a pain in the pack leader's side?

And that's how WOLF FEVER came about.

I have to credit Deb, our illustrious editor, for mentioning that I should tie in the plot with Carol Wood's nursing skills instead of the direction I was headed. Which made it perfect! Thanks also to CasaBabes Sharon and Cheryl, who answered a couple of nursing questions.

I do a lot of research for my books and for WOLF FEVER dove into the realm of werewolf mythology once again.

I've been in the middle of movie making madness!!! What do you think of Wolf Fever???

Hmm, to be Carol in this feature! :) Some women have all the luck when it comes to finding the right alpha male...

But I also took off to Scotland to research 7 castles in October, and before that went to a wolf reserve in Texas. I hope to visit one in New Mexico next year. All these help me to research wolf behavior and locations for the stories. More Highland wolves coming up!

There's something really special about seeing a castle that is in ruins, feeling the past around you, no modern day people, just a sense of what it might have been in ancient times.

Note the werewolf author from Texas who is bundled up to the hilt! So much for looking like a hardy Scot's descendant. Probably from living in California, Texas, and Florida too much!!! And by the way, my critique partner caught me coming out of the castle entryway unaware or I would have been smiling instead of looking like I was lost and cold!

I loved capturing the image of the castle in the well in the center of the inner courtyard.

Anita, I think it was you who asked what Scotland smelled like. Fresh air. Everywhere we went. By the North Sea, the Irish Sea, the farms and villages and cities. Everything smelled fresh. No sea or fishy smells at all.

So I pull myself out of Scotland (and I just finished final edits on HEART OF THE HIGHLAND WOLF and am ready to do the blog tour for it!!!!) and I'm back to talking about WOLF FEVER! Does anyone know what this lovely flower is? It's aconitum. Or more commonly known as wolfsbane. It's native to northern Europe and it's important to any werewolf story. But not in the way you might think!

So if you've had your flu shot, or even if you haven't and you want to catch the WOLF FEVER, I hope you enjoy my version of what wolfsbane will or will not do for a body!

The sixth book in the stand alone title series, WOLF FEVER is now available in stores everywhere!

Just check the right side of my blog for the tour:

I'll be at 24 places during the blog tour!! Maybe more before the month is through!

WOLF FEVER by TERRY SPEAR—IN STORES DECEMBER 2010

She may be his destiny, but she's not his first choice…

Hospital nurse and newly turned red werewolf Carol Woods is being pressured by her pack leader to find a mate, but he's the only guy in the pack who remotely attracts her… Why is he playing so hard to get?

The fate of the pack rests on his shoulders…

Gray pack leader Ryan McKinley doesn't want anything to do with Carol unless she's willing to embrace her wolf nature—no matter how beautiful she is.

But when a virus infects the local lupus garou pack, Ryan realizes just how wrong he's been not to seize the moment with the woman he's come to love. And now, it may be too late…

I believe we're supposed to talk about endings in our stories on the blog this month--so I just wanted to say (since I've already said quite enough)--that this is what writing the end finally means--giving that HEA to the story hero and heroine, and sharing it with the world!

Don't catch any old fever this season. WOLF FEVER is the only one for you!!

Oh, but to add a little Christmas cheer--
From my house to yours, hoping your whole month is filled with Christmas cheer!

  1. I predict terrific things for this book! One of my cousins got wind I had a book coming out, and asked if I'd sign some copies for her co-workers. She meant about forty copies, for her co-workers who are all nurses, who, she says, read romance VORACIOUSLY. May the Wolf Fever epidemic spread like wild fire throughout nurses' lounges the world over!

  2. Congrats on the launch party, Terry! Wonderful premise and great video.

How amazing that you've been to the castle I found while searching for images of Scottish castles. The picture I have is looking down at it through a shroud of mist...totally captivating.

Good luck with the book and the tour!

  3. Woohoo, Grace, congratulations!!! Tell your cousin I'll sign books!!! LOL And thanks...I hope the Wolf Fever and no other kind of fever spreads like wild fire everywhere!

Thanks, CH! I have so much fun making the videos. I'm ready to begin working on Heart of the Highland Wolf's. The castle was gorgeous. And no people. It was truly magical. We actually visited 7. :)

  8. Thanks, Lynn!! I had such a great time in Scotland only wish it hadn't been so rushed!

Thanks, Olivia!! I think the few people that were parked there while the three of us American ladies began applying layers thought we were crazy. LOL. But after that, we weren't as cold at the various sites, despite that we were on the North Sea and Irish Sea. I expected to be frozen to pieces!

Thanks, Catherine! I have so much fun making the videos that I almost want to write another book just so I can make a video for it. LOL

Thanks so much, Robin. I'm glad you want to catch a little Wolf Fever! :)

  14. Thanks so much, Cat! My critique partner offered for me to come with her and since she and another friend were driving a car instead of taking a tour, I said I'd come. And we had a blast! Two Highland romance authors who were living a dream!

  18. Hi Terry! Congrats. This book sounds great. very intriguing. Have to get back to the store and get it for real this time! I love the pictures and so envy you going to Scotland. I would love to go.I think I may have asked you about the smells of Scotland. Thanks for the info. I just found out there is a Scottish Society here in my town. I was in Walmart and noticed the guy behind the paint counter wearing a kilt. I commented on it and he told me about the society.

  19. Hi, Terry. Great trailer! I finally found a copy of Heart of the Wolf. I know they are "stand alone" novels, but I'm a bit anal about reading in order regardless. Luckily I can whip through 6 six books in a week. :) Can't wait to dig into them.

  20. Hey, Carolyn, never the end! Next up is Heart of the Highland Wolf...more wolf hunks, only this time, a Highland clan. :) And three more after that, and ....well, it'll be time for SEALS, and more Highland werewolves, and Jake's story, and...got to make a couple of more proposals!! :)

Thanks, Linda! My camera's charge ran out one of the days and I was frantic!!

    Thanks so much, MM!!!

Oooh, a kilt-wearing shopkeeper, Anita! Yay! You are so lucky. Yes, you'll have to go to Scotland. It was lovely! We couldn't have asked for better weather. When we were leaving, it was so foggy, we could barely see anything. But two days were sunny and the rest cloudy and misty. All perfect for using in stories. :) Thanks for picking up the book when you have the chance!

Woohoo, Julie, you go, girl! I'll be excited to hear how you like the series. :)
