Magic Gone Wild is Unleashed on the (Unsuspecting) World!

And the world hasn't been the same since... This is the third installment of my Bottled Magic series about genies, and in this one, well, let's just say that maybe it's not exactly the world that's never been the same, but a certain town in northeast PA hasn't been. Not for the past hundred plus years. See, that's when Vana, a genie who kinda, well, sorta, maybe, skipped out on her genie training, and might have caused just the teensiest tiniest bit of trouble for the master who'd brought her to his home town. Okay, maybe big trouble. From the vanishing staircase, to the bear who showed up at a luncheon, to the flying berries, rolling gristmill, and let us not forget the ugly rose-colored window she'd zapped into the church, Vana's magic had been wreaking havoc for her master, giving him the sad legacy of being known as a crazy man. Her new master, Zane Harrison, is out to change all of that. He lived with that legacy until his family moved o...

In The Beginning...

...there was Eden. And Obo. No, I didn't name a hero Obo. The hero is Matt, but in the beginning of I Dream of Genies, it's Eden and the cat. I was reading a thread somewhere (and there are so many) where authors were talking about starting their stories. Some said they never know where to start; others nailed it every time. I'm a mix of both and this book was one of the ones where I had to rethink the opening. Originally, the book started with Eden face-down in Matt's lap... Not too shabby of an opening, I thought. But once I'd written it, I realized that it was too quick of an opening. Fun and funny, yes, but we didn't know the characters well enough to appreciate the scenario, so I had to take a step back and give the reader some background on the characters and the world. Plus, you had to know that Eden's been watching Matt run by every day and, hey, she's been confined to her bottle for almost eighteen hundred years... she's just a bit, er, fru...

Remember Felix The Cat?

Well, now you get to meet Obo. Felix, he's not. I'm not going to try to kid myself that you all came to see me for this launch party. After all the blog tours I've done, I know that readers really want to see the characters and learn the story, and one of the biggest scene-stealers I've ever written is Obo the cat. That's with a small "c," but that's only because he hasn't thought to capitalize it yet. But I'm sure that's coming at some point. Obo is a seemingly stray cat in Seattle, who stops by Murphy's Antiques to chat up Eden, a genie who's been sentenced to 3000 years in her bottle. He also hangs out at Matt Ewing's house for hand-outs. That's Obo, always cutting corners and looking for the easy way out. He's also only looking out for himself. I really had to corral him in this story; for Obo, it's all about him. And while he's enjoyable, it's only in small doses. Like your children, you don't have a...

Oooh, Pretty!

They say a picture is worth a thousand words; I figure this one is worth at least half a million, by the time edits were done :) A couple of ARCs for Catch of a Lifetime arrived last week for the conference I'm headed to at the end of the month and I had to get this picture of all three of my books. Sincere, grateful thanks once more to Anne Cain for the beautiful covers. Anne introduced herself to Cheryl and I at National. She does both of our covers and, wow, does she do a good job. I can't wait to see what she comes up with for the genies! The bottle is, obviously, for my genie series. Hubs and I found it on eBay and now I'm the proud owner of an I Dream of Jeannie purple replica. The little gal is a Wombat named Wicca, in honor of my online friends, the Writing Wombats (whom you will see mentioned in the Acknowledgments of all 3 books). I also have a small statue of Bastet (or Bast), the Egyptian cat goddess, and an amethyst-colored crystal ball not in the picture ...
