Setting and a GOODREAD'S GIVEAWAY

Two brothers…one woman…and one final chance for...
 REDEMPTION.

From a mysterious town hidden on the banks of Big Cypress Bayou in the swamps of East Texas comes TEXAS REDEMPTION. This story is a reissue of Redemption (2005) and I’m so excited to have it back into readers' hands on February 7th.

Setting always plays a huge part of my stories, often becoming a character in itself. For this story of two people hiding, looking for a safe place, the swamps of East Texas are perfect. Swamps are dark, silent, and ghostly with tall moss-draped cypress everywhere you turn. I went to Big Cypress Bayou which is near Jefferson, Texas when I got the idea for the story and took lots of pictures. But mostly, I soaked up the “feel” for the place and I don’t think I could’ve set this anywhere else. I hope you enjoy the photos. My camera wasn't the best.

Brodie Yates, known as legendary spy Shenandoah during the Civil War, has been chased for three long years by the U.S. army. Redemption is a good place to make a final stand.

Laurel James met Brodie who was going by the name of Shenandoah in a brothel where she taken after being kidnapped. Everything’s perfect…until Shenandoah rides into town and strides into the small café that Laurel co-owns.
One glance tells her that she’s still in love with him. There’s no denying it....Only she's engaged to his brother.

One offers respect and redemption. The other his heart. Which will she choose?

Does the setting make any difference to you when you read?

TEXAS REDEMPTION comes out on Feb. 7th. I’ll blog again then.

  1. I love to know the surroundings and areas in a book I'm reading. If I'm unfamiliar I go on the Internet and research. I can't wait to dive into Linda's book, she is my favorite author and a wonderful Lady.

  2. I think the setting in a story should create a visual that enhances the plot and dialogue. The area Texas Redemption is set in is dark, mysterious and yet incredibly beautiful. Can't wait to read this story!!

  4. If an author can put me into the setting of her book, to the point I can see it, feel it, and even taste it, she has done her job. In all the books I have read of Linda Brodays she has done that, so I know this book will do the same thing.
My daddy used to sit with an atlas, and sometimes a topographical atlas to check to see if the setting he was reading actually matched what the atlas was telling him. I believe he enjoy Lindens books. And I wish he was here for me to share this book with him, as he loved books in this era.
Cant wait ti read this book.

    1. Hi Veda......Great to see you. Wow, that's wonderful about your dad. He must've been an avid reader as well. A lot of authors fictionalize places in their stories because they don't want to get something wrong. Sometimes I do that. But in this book it's the real thing. Everything I mention was meticulously researched and I spent a good deal of time there. I'm glad to know I measure up. Sending hugs and a wishes for a beautiful day.

  5. Settings are very important for me I love to read a book and the author pull me into it so that I can actually picture my surroundings. I have even googled an area to get an actual picture of the settings although with Linda Broday I have yet to to do that for she she writes in such a way you get a vivid picture in your mind. She was generous enough to have already sent me Texas Redemption and I am only getting started good into it I can tell it's going to be a phenomenal book. Every book I have read by is a Wonderful 5stars+ books she is an AWESOME writer and person love her dearly!!!!

    1. Hi Glenda.....I see that we agree. I don't think a reader can be pulled as deeply into a story without a strong setting. Thank you for your kind words about Texas Redemption. I'm always grateful for a reader's opinion.

      Hugs!

  6. The settings of the book are SO IMPORTANT! They take into the book and allow you to "see" what is happening instead of just seeing the words on the page. With Linda Broday's books I don't see words on a page, I see the scenery around me and hear sounds and smell the scents in the air. She literally takes me back to the 1800's and puts me into the scene. I love reading her books and being carried away. She's phenomenal!
