Emmy Red Carpet

Do you watch award shows? I love them. I love all the glamor and ceremony, the joy of live TV. And the gowns. Of course, the gowns!

Some of my favorites:

Lady Gaga-- looking stunning, not shocking. Can you ever go wrong with basic black?

Sofia Vergara-- mainly for the side of Joe Manganiello (oh my!)

Uzo Aduba-- that pink! Fab!

But what I'm really excited about is seeing more roles, more great scripts for and by women. I've just binge watched all three seasons of Orange is the New Black, and wow. Solid writing, comedy, drama, and women of all shapes, sizes. Multiracial cast. I also love Orphan Black. Let's have more of that, Hollywood.

Because women should have a strong voice, and we're not one size/one look fits all.

Speaking of strong women... the third in the Thornbrook Park series, The Great Estate, is out now. And the second in the series, An Affair Downstairs? Booklist calls it one of the Top Ten Romances of 2015, and selected it for their 101 Best Romances of the Last 10 Years list! (Such an honor!)

Did you watch the Emmys? Did your favorite shows or actors win? What did you think of the gowns?

  1. I just wasn't thrilled this year although I did love the gowns. apparently, I've managed to not watch most of the shows that were up for awards. It's like books - there just isn't enough time in the day!

    1. Too many good shows! I'm catching up with some on Netflix, but yeah, it takes time. Too much time.

  3. Agree with your choices! Although I also loved Viola Davis's dress! And yes, what a year for strong women! And women of color! Thought Ms. Davis's speech was inspiring and cried with Ms. Aduba. Love #OITNB!

    1. Viola always looks stunning, love her. I liked Amy Poehler with darker hair, too.

  4. Congrats on your new book, Sherri!
I love award shows too. It's exciting to see your faves up for awards. It's as encouraging to their work as awards are to ours. Although we don't get to wear those fabulous designer gowns!
