Romance Heroines and Why We Love Them

I had the absolute honor of attending Samantha Grace's Facebook Launch Party for her latest romance IN BED WITH A ROGUE.

It was an all day event, but I got to participate in an hour of it. I got the chance to visit readers and other writers, all of whom are just as crazy about romance, hot heroes and happily ever after as I am.
While we were chatting, we began to come up with the different types of heroines that we love the most. Here is a short list of the biggies...the heroines we love, and why.

  • The Ugly Duckling It is always inspiring to watch a woman come to realize how fabulous she is. When we read about these women who learn to see their own beauty and grace, we get a chance to take a look at our own.

  • The Shy Type When I think of this woman, I think of the quiet, silent ladies who sit in the background, until circumstances make them stand up, for themselves and for the man they love. Arabella, the heroine in my second Shakespeare in Love novel, LOVE ON A MIDSUMMER NIGHT is one of these women.

  • The Blue Stocking We all agreed that we adore the woman who knows that she is the smartest person in the room, and owns her intelligence. We love watching those women find love, and we fall in love a little with the men who love them.

  • The Wild Child A lot of us really love a woman who is more than a little wild. Whether she's a secret spy or a knife-throwing, sword-wielding warrior woman, we love a woman who knows how to handle herself, and any man who might come her way. This particular type of heroine is close to my own heart, because Caroline in my first romance HOW TO TAME A WILLFUL WIFE is one of them.

If you had to choose, which would be your favorite kind of romance heroine?

  1. Great question, Christy! I love all of them, but I like writing the wild ones. They're the most fun.

    1. Me too Quinn! I love to read, and if I'd been lucky enough to have the education and the time, I would have never left the family library

  3. Oooh, I also like the heroine who is on a quest for vengeance. :) Someday I hope to write one. :)

  4. Pure sass is what I like to write about and read. Someone who isn't afraid to speak up and tell it like it is, who doesn't need a man to coddle her but to really, really love her for who she is.

    1. I love that too Carolyn. Sass is a great trait for a woman to have, on the page and off of it :)

  5. Christy,
You liven up any party you attend. I was thrilled you agreed to join in.

I love the bluestocking and the wild child. I love a lady that can outwit or outshoot any many. :)
