Bucket Lists & Other Goals

From Mia Marlowe ....

I've always been a firm believer in setting goals. I like to write them down and stick a date on them. That way it's measurable. I know when I've arrived.

Last week I was in South Dakota visiting my sister and her family and got a chance to see the Crazy Horse monument. This thing is massive. No, that's not it in the foreground of the picture.

Crazy Horse

The actual monument is a mile away, still being carved into the mountain in the distance. To give you an idea of the scale, that hole in the rock face is large enough that a 10 story building will fit snugly inside it. All four faces on Mt. Rushmore would fit inside Crazy Horse's head. Oh, and the face of the warrior is all that is finished so far. It was unveiled in 1998.

The artist, Korczak Ziolkowski, who began the work in 1948 has died but several of his children are continuing to blast away at the rock. Even though I'm a fan of setting goals, I've never considered one that couldn't be accomplished in my lifetime. Guess I've never dreamed quite that big.

Perhaps I should.

Kopi LuwakThen there are other, much shorter term goals, some of them quite silly. I managed to tick off one of those last week too. My sister offered me some Kopi Luwak coffee and I did drink. If you've seen the movie, THE BUCKET LIST, you know the story behind this brew.

If you don't think about the journey the beans took to get to your cup, it really wasn't bad at all.

So how about you? Do you have a Bucket List? A goal you're working on? Share it with us and I'll enter you in the drawing for an ARC of my upcoming ONCE UPON A PLAID.

A wife may be courted, too…

Many would count Katherine Douglas fortunate indeed. Laird William Douglas is broad-shouldered, gentle-handed, everything a lass could dream.

After four years of marriage, Katherine still knows little of what goes on in his heart. And she has yet to bear him an heir. The distance between them is too great—and so she flees over the snowy highlands to Glengarry Castle, home of her childhood, to set her husband free.

But William won’t let his wife slip away without a fight. Before long, he’s at her father’s threshold himself, witness to the rumbles of discontent in Glengarry, the bright joy of Yuletide at a family hearth, and the hidden needs of his own beloved…

Here's a goal for you: Be first among your friends to get your copy of ONCE UPON A PLAID. Pre-order it today. ;-)

    1. LOL! Yeah, what genius first thought, "Hey! Why don't I pick the undigested coffee beans out of civet cat feces and see how it tastes?"

As usual, I masked the coffee taste with copious amounts of creamer!

    1. LOL for the bottom of the TBR pile. I still remember seeing Chris Keeslar's famous slush pile back when I visited the Dorchester offices. It was waist high and ringed his entire office! He's a terrific editor who wanted to give everyone a fair reading.

    1. One of my sisters doesn't either. She says no goals means no disappointments. I'll take the lows since they also come with highs.

  8. My bucket list includes a long trip to Scotland, a visit to the pyramids of Egypt, go out West and see the desert and Grand Canyon and go tour Washington, DC. I am sure there are more, but those are top on the list.

    1. The pyramids would be fascinating, if that part of the world would settle down a bit. I confess to a little trepidation about traveling there right now.
