Pictures From Our Backyard by C.H. Admirand

I was so surprised to receive a camera for Christmas this year, especially since I didn't ask for one, but the biggest surprise was that I had to learn how to use it! LOL ;)

At any given moment, there are songs playing in my head. Things that people say, or things I see as I go through my day change the station and the song. ;) When I opened up the box the camera was in, Paul Simon started singing--yep, that's right, it's a Nikon Camera ;)

I'm definitely an amateur as far as the pics go, but here are a few of the birds that visited our backyard feeders since Christmas. We do have favorites, that we love to see. I love the Red-Bellied Woodpecker (which oddly enough has a bright red patch on the back of his head and only has a red haze on his belly in the Springtime, think twitterpated)

The Gray Squirrel ... Jameson's favorite animal to chase. Unfortunately, he has caught a few. ;( But the Vet keeps reminding us that he is part Terrier and that's what is in his nature. Our Beagles never caught anything, neither did Ginger, our German Shepherd Rottweiler Mix, so this to totally new for us.

And our favorite, the black squirrel, this is the first time we've had one in our yard for more than a day. The first time we saw one up close was at the Bronx Zoo years ago when our kids were little. His face is actually smaller and softer than the larger Gray Squirrel... see?

Male and female Cardinals ...

Male House Finches- a close relative to the Purple Finches

And with the warm weather a Cowbird - they usually arrive with the Red-Winged Blackbirds ;)

A BlueJay in the early morning sunlight...

 A Male Goldfinch ...

Female Snowbird - aka the Junko...

 And the Male Junko
 The Male Starling ...

And for the first time ever in our yard ... a Thrasher!

The Mourning Dove - which I love to listen to

And on Christmas Day, we had a furry visitor beneath the grill... Isn't he precious? Believe it or not, he did fit through the chainlink fence!

 The Chipping Sparrow

The Titmouse

 And the Female Downy Woodpecker

And one of my favorites... the Black-Capped Chickadee!

And one of my DH's favorites the Rufus-Sided Towhee...

Thanks for letting me share just a bit of the wonderful birdlife that exists in our backyard!

Now I've got to get back to the RITA books I have to read ;)

Happy Reading!

    1. Thanks, B.E. It's funny how certain songs just stick in your head, isn't it? I'm hoping to figure out the settings on the camera soon. ;)

    1. Thanks, Carolyn. The funny thing is that all of the pics I took of Jackie-Boy are blurred! That little grandbaby of ours isn't still for more than a minute.

    1. Thanks, Cheryl. He's our favorite. Apparently they aren't all that common anymore. I'll have to do some research on it. He definitely is feisty and holds his own against his larger Gray brothers.

    1. Thanks, Shana. I haven't taken pics in the last few days. We lucked out with yesterday's snowstorm. We only got about 4 or 5 inches. The Jersey Shore had 15 inches! But to tell you the truth, snow is a four-letter word IMHO. Can't wait for spring!
