It all started in 2010 with Love Drunk Cowboy when Rye O'Donnell found his HEA before his older brother Dewar! Their father had always expected his children to get married in the order of their birth but the characters who popped into my head had a whole 'nother idea in mind.
Wil, Rye's friend, wanted his story told after Rye and Austin figured out that living in the little bitty town of Terral, Oklahoma wasn't so bad. Their story all started with the lights went out in Henrietta and Wil had to come into town for the night. Pearl had inherited the motel over on the east side of town and she really wasn't interested in that sexy cowboy but the heart will have what it wants. They were pretty insistent that I listen to what they had to tell so Red's Hot Cowboy was next in the Spikes & Spurs series.
I'd promised Ace the next slot in the line up but Madam Editor said she needed a Christmas book and Raylen, bless his heart, had been in love with Liz since they were just kids. So the two middle O'Donnell children, Raylen and his sister, Colleen, each found true love in Darn Good Cowboy Christmas with a couple of traveling carnival folks.
Gemma and Dewar were ready to tell me what happened in their lives but Ace had been promised so One Hot Cowboy Wedding was the next one on the list. Ace and Jazzy were pretty spicy characters and they woke me up at night if I didn't get their story told just right.
Right about then, it was time for another Christmas book. Creed, Ace's brother from One Hot Cowboy Wedding, stepped right up to the plate and told me about a ranch he'd been looking at over in the Palo Duro Canyon and I was hooked. Mistletoe Cowboy involved lots of snow, mistletoe, oil paintings and a meddling granny, which was right down my alley.
Gemma was impatiently stomping her boots and swearing that she was tired
of waiting. Dewar said to go right on and tell her story. There wasn't a woman in his life and he was about ready to settle in to being the favorite uncle in the O'Donnell family. I'd planned that Gemma would fall for one of Ace's brothers but oh, no! She said she wasn't doing any such thing. She was going on the Pro-Rodeo Tour in the bareback bronc riding events and I was going to write all about it. Well, dear hearts, Trace had been telling me the same thing so I just threw them together and added a baby to the mix in Just a Cowboy and His Baby.
And now it's time for Dewar's story, the grand finale...the big bang to end the series and leave everyone with a smile on their face with Cowboy Seeks Bride. Don't you just love that cover? It tells the story right there before you even open up to chapter one to read: If it was an April Fools’ joke, it damn sure wasn’t funny. If it wasn’t a joke, it was a disaster.
Dewar, two of his friends and three of his cousins were mounted up and ready to herd a hundred head of cattle from north Texas to Dodge City, Kansas. It was a reenactment of the old Chisholm Trail cattle run for a television company who planned on producing a reality television show. It was going to be a wonderful month of lazy rides, sleeping under the stars and eating campfire food, right up until the fellow the television company sent wasn't a man at all but a feisty red haired woman.
It's been a wild three year ride with the O'Donnells and their friends but it's been fun. Dewar and Haley are the icing on the cake...well, along with that pesky donkey, Eeyore, and all the adventures they had in a modern world without cellphones, lap tops or even a real bed to sleep in. But hey, there's something about a quilt under a weeping willow tree beside a bubbling stream with the stars shining down that sure is sexy.

Next Tuesday Cowboy Seeks Bride will hit the shelves! Do you hate to see a series come to an end? Have you made friends with the characters and wish you could have "just one more book" about them?
If so, keep your hats on and your boots polished. After the Cowboys & Brides series which debuted with Billion Dollar Cowboy in June, there's a brand new series, The Burnt Boot series, in the making and Finn and Sawyer O'Donnell (you will meet them in Cowboy Seeks Bride) are stars in two of the four books!
To celebrate the launch of Dewar and Haley's story I'm giving away a complete signed set of the Spikes & Spurs...all seven books! All you have to do to win is leave a comment and I'll put your name in the famous red boot. Mr. Random has agreed to choose a winner on Tuesday, the day that Cowboy Seeks Bride hits the shelf.
