I can’t believe that it’s finally here! Everyone grab a
glass and come around for the champagne!
*pops cork*
GGSE was a pure joy to write, and I can honestly say this
has been an incredible ride so far. The only thing missing? You guys! Readers!
I’ve always been a reader, and I’ll always be one. I wrote a book that I
thought would be fun to read, and that’s always been my goal. I hope that you
guys enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it!
So, welcome to the party! Since GGSE has a deep
geek-slash-pop culture theme running through the Regency England backdrop, this
is going to be an odd party. But I promise it’ll be worth it!
Okay, everybody line up. Muriel and Mrs. Knightsbridge will
help you all get dressed. There are bloomers, stays, petticoats, stockings, and
beautiful dresses. It’ll be about an hour or two to get you all in the
appropriate gear, and then have your coiffures done. Don’t worry, I’ll wait.
*two hours and several bottles of champagne later*
Oh, hai guyz. Hehee, just kidding. I didn’t drink all the
champagne. I bet you needed it to deal with all the fussing and primping, huh?
Okay, so here’s part two of the party. Now that you’re all
dressed up in your Regency finery, with ribbons and furbelows and reticules and
such, I’ve got a little game for us to play.
What, you don’t like Dance Dance Revolution?
Okay, fine. Cucumber sandwiches it is. *grumbles* Now I know
what Jamie had to go through!
If you were stuck in 1816, what would you miss the most?
Jamie misses her shower, her toilet, and her computer. If it were me, I’d die
without my iPhone, my MP3 library, and modern plumbing. Would you miss bagels?
Tanning beds? Calculators? Sleep Apnea machines?
We take a heck of a lot for granted in our modern lives.
It’s no big deal to travel ten miles to work in the morning. It takes just a
minute to pick up dinner, to throw a load of clothes in the washing machine, to
bathe your dog in the tub. Imagine if you had to cook everything yourself, from
scratch? If your clothes had to be washed by hand, and dried on a line? If you
had to bathe your dog in a stream, or pump buckets and buckets of water to get
the fuzzy little bastard rinsed? Poodles are too furry!
Though GGSE is a fun book, I did have to take a long, hard
look at the way we live now versus how we had to get by back then. There’s a
lot that we take for granted. And I know a lot more now about what I have to be
grateful for, thanks to Jamie’s journey to the past!
Thank you all for coming to my party. It’s meant the world
to me to have you all here! Before you go, please let me know these things!
What gown did you pick? There were some fancy ones in that
pile!
What would you miss most about 2013, if you were dragged
back in time?
Thanks again! *guzzles champagne*
Want to win a copy of THE GEEK GIRL AND THE SCANDALOUS EARL? Comment below! Sourcebooks is giving away TWO copies to random commenters.
Too bashful for free stuff? That's okay. You can find GGSE at these and other cool booksellers!
1) The book is hilarious (I still want to be entered 'cause it's worth having a physical copy of - I read an ARC from NetGalley).
ReplyDelete2) I would miss being able to wander around by myself, and I would miss my iPhone (because therein lies the majority of my current library).
3) Hehehe - earl + Angry Birds. Favorite moment.
I'm going to miss my books because ladies are expected to read preachy books, not romances that defy the odds and social conventions. I'll also miss good hygeine, safe food & water, and clean air. Thank heavens I found a relatively warm dress, the weather has been so unseasonably cold this year, I'm glad I'm old enough to wear bottle green instead of those insipid pastels. We'll all have to be careful of these long skirts around the fireplaces. At least these narrower lines are easier to control, but still! The stories I've heard about these flimsy fabrics, give me some honest English woolens. I don't care if they scratch!

Congrats on your release! the book looks really fabulous!
ReplyDeleteSounds like fun! Congrats on the new book, Gina!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your brand spankin' new release! After all the waiting, it's still kind of surreal, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteWhat would I miss...my laptop! I've gotten very spoiled to writing on the thing and would hate to go back to pen and paper!
I've always thought that I was born 100 years too late. I think that I would have liked to live in the victorian era. I think I would probably miss the abity to travel in a timely manner.
ReplyDeleteThanks to everyone for stopping by! Can someone eat a few more cucumber sandwiches? I think we made too many. :)
ReplyDeleteGina

There would be so much to miss but to narrow it down - indoor plumbing and my computer. And a gown that makes me look marvelous lol.

Congrat on your new release. Sounds great. I would miss electricity and all the electrical devices I use.
ReplyDeleteCrystal816[at]hotmail[dot]com
A Regency version of Dance Dance sounds pretty cool! I could just imagine myself trying to handle the heavy train of my dress.
ReplyDeleteI would miss reliable plumbing. I need a good hot shower to feel ready to face the day!

Congrats! Miss the internet

What a fun title!! I would miss modern day medicine. Give me a hospital and pain pills darn it.
ReplyDeleteNaturally I would miss the internet and my computer but I think most important is the ability to turn on a bright light without risking burning everything down. I do prefer indoor plumbing as well, lol. Good luck with the release and thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely, I would miss indoor plumbing along with being able to go places unescorted. Oh, and modern day feminine hygiene products!
ReplyDeleteThis book sound super fun to read!
Thanks for the giveaway!

I would truly miss a modern bathroom with hot water and a comfortable bra. The books sounds fantastic I would love to win.
ReplyDeleteI would miss being able to wear what I wanted! Considering I am not a dress person, I would be in my own little special hell ;-) But also, I would work though it. Because, hello, that would be AWESOME! *GRIN*

I am looking forward to this book.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the release of The Geek Girl and the Scandalous Earl! This sounds like such a fun story, I'm looking forward to reading it.
ReplyDeleteI would pick a deep blue gown with touches of white lace, with classic clean lines, not a lot of ruffles or fussiness. I would miss my contact lenses, my iPhone and computer, oh, and definitely modern plumbing the most if I were dragged back in time.
I would definitely miss my books and electronics if I were yanked back in time. I think I would go crazy without my books, print and electronic, and, of course, my Kindles, Nook, laptop, Wi-Fi, and etc. I would also miss clean running water, sewage systems, medications & doctors, pizza, and so much more :) I just don't think I would enjoy going back in time, LOL.

Congrats on the new release! I'm raising a cyber glass of champagne and wishing you continued success.
ReplyDeleteSo I'm late for the champagne, I brought my own!! I am so excited for your release! And I love that you mixed in some geek-pop culture with your historical.
ReplyDeleteWhat better way to expierence history than through a good book, cuz I know I wouldn't REALLY want to go back there. I would miss tampons, and Coke...you know, those important things. :)
