Beware the Ides of March -1

That was the chant of my best friend all through high school. We'd been reading "Julius Caesar" and, as he (Julius, not my friend) was killed on the ides of March (the 15th) and my birthday was the day before, it appeared as a doomsday threat. Which he never actually followed through on, but he really nailed the sepulcher voice with 2-3 weeks of practice for four years running.

So, now I'm sitting in a very unique place. My 3rd SOAR novel came out last month. And it's been getting great reviews.
Which then boosted the sales of my Christmas short novel in the series to well above its Christmas rate of sale... despite it being February. (Thanks to readers all.)
And I just became a full-time writer, a dream I've been holding for nearly two decades and actively pursuing for the last five years. Now it is a dream come true.

So, what happens? It's my birthday month and my family wants to know what to get me. Um...

Beware the Ides of March minus one. Is it an indicator that I'm already having too much fun if I can't think of a cool birthday present I want?

So, we're going out for Mexican and a Marguerite... and maybe having a pumpkin pie with a candle when my kid comes visiting from college the week following. Definitely ranks as one of the best birthday months of my life. Hope your March is just as wunnerful!

  4. OH, the Ides of March is always used in my house, as my birthday is two days before... And it always refers more to me and the weather....We have gotten some pretty fierce storms around or on my birthday. Yours too I am sure..

  5. Kathleen, I was born in what was, until recently, the 2nd worst snowstorm in Philadelphia's history. Due to the notorious mid-March weather, I received a birthday postcard from my dad once that said only, "At the Inca Pyramids, but wearing galoshes just in case." Nothing else was needed.
