Spa Day

I just had the marvelous experience (thanks to my marvelous husband) of a spa vacation. I took my 21-year-old daughter with me. (I know I don’t look old enough to have a grown-up daughter!) We went to Southern California, where we visited my parents before and after
our three days at the fabulous LaCosta Spa in Carlsbad, near San Diego.

The first thing to note about Southern California is the weather is perfect—actually, they have no weather, which is essentially the same thing: every day was warm, with blue skies, waving palm trees, blooming flowers, and general bliss.

We scheduled our spa treatment for late afternoon so it wouldn’t interfere with pool time (and romance reading time—more on that later). We didn’t indulge in the manicures, pedicures, or anything else available at the marvelous salon there, but we did try the Thai
massage, Shiatsu massage, Restorative facial, Custom Scrub, and Odyssey massage at the Deepak Chopra Center, also located at LaCosta. Everything was wonderful! The people were great; the experience was great.

The spa at LaCosta has its own pool, courtyard, and café, and poolside was where we lived. The café has a marvelous chocolate truffle crème dish I couldn’t get enough of: I actually ate two of them one day, and had one for breakfast the next. Spa and chocolate—what could be better?

Spa and chocolate, and romance fiction, that’s what!
While on vacation, I read a Grace Burrowes, a Joanne Kennedy and an ML Buchman. Regency romance, contemporary cowboy, and military romantic suspense. Yum yum.

What did you do on your summer vacation? Or what will you be doing? And what books are you taking to read while you relax?

  1. As it happens, I'll be reading some Grace Burrowes on my vacay too, but there the similarity ends--almost. I'm heading west to RWA National, visiting the Aged P's in... San Diego, and keeping an eye peeled for that chocolate creme. Might have to pack a steamy cowboy read and some military romantic suspense because CLEARLY, the reading was the best part of your vacay, right?

  2. Summer vacation???? We're supposed to take a summer vacation???

Sounds like you had fun, Deb. Mine is burying myself in writing, before the day job, after the day job and on my two days off. I've been to the Grand Cayman Island, swimming with a hunk of a Highland wolf, getting ready for a Highland wedding, hobnobbing with jaguars, putting up Christmas decorations with a SEAL wolf, and it's back to big kitty cats after that. My respite will be RWA Nationals, but I might sneak away to write while I'm there too.... Reading? Yeah, on the plane and listening to audiobooks on the way back and forth to work. :)

  3. I was in Vegas recently. It wasn't really a vacation, but I did have time to read. I planned to read a book I brought with me but ended up reading Love in the Afternoon by Lisa Kleypas. How had I missed that one? It was so good.

  4. I'm green with envy just looking at the pictures. When I get the polish done on the WIP today and tomorrow, then I get to read Cowboy Crazy by Joanne Kennedy. It's my weekend treat and prize for meeting my deadline!

  5. I know you wrote something about a spa but all I read was chocolate and reading--now that's my kind of vacation. What a great husband!
