Spring Flowers, Weddings & Book Giveaway by C.H. Admirand

I love Springtime, the cool rainy days and the warm sunny ones. The rain waters our flowers and the sunshine makes them bloom.  We’ve planted so many flowers, flowering shrubs, herbs, and vegetables in our yard over the years that we’ve lived here. Come May, our front yard will be in full bloom, starting with the Azaleas.

My darling boys know how much I love Fuchsia...here's a pic standing on the front porch and looking under it toward our Rhododendron.

After the cold of winter, spring is my healing season. I can almost feel my inner wings stretching and spreading and take flight watching the gardens unfurl their tender green leaves and open their blossoms to the gentle rains and warmer weather. Here’s a shot of our patio garden, one of my favorite places to unwind…

We’ve had our hummingbird feeder out for a few weeks, because I swear that one buzzed by my head when we were raking out the gardens. So far the voracious little darlings haven’t been back, but they will be. Here’s a picture of the female Ruby-Throated Hummingbird. She’s larger than the male, doesn’t have his brilliant red throat, and has this spectacular Cleopatra eye-liner…

Spring and the rebirth of our gardens remind me of weddings and the new life that awaits the happy couple (both real life and fictional) who believe in love enough to pledge their lives to one another. Faith, hope, and love—what a lovely beginning to their happily-ever-after. I couldn't resist...here's a pic of our darling daughter Jessi and her hubby Tom from their wedding in the Hummingbird Garden in Memorial Park in Nyack, NY last year.

Speaking of weddings, for those of you who have read TYLER and DYLAN and are patiently (or impatiently) awaiting JESSE's story which releases in July, you know that so far there has been one engagement and one wedding...I guess I can't say any more without spoiling things. But I can tell you that those handsome-as-sin Garahan brothers are as steadfast in their love for their women as the day is long.

Although I'll be leaving Pleasure, Texas for the next three books, I hope you'll follow me to Apple Grove, Ohio in November where love is always in the air and everyone but Megan Mulcahy is getting married. But newcomer Daniel Eagan is headed into town...and all that is about to change.Isn't the cover fabulous?

Funny thing, now that I'm writing the second book in this series, I have been bombarded by characters demanding their stories be told next. I've been woken up in the middle of the night by two handsome-as-sin rodeo cowboys, three hard-headed, flinty-eyed lawmen, two angels on the verge of losing their wings, and five fiercely-courageous firemen. More cowboys just waiting for me to write their stories. :)

For those of you who have missed my Secret Life of Cowboys Series, here's your chance to catch up before JESSE releases in July. I'm giving away signed copies of both TYLER and DYLAN to one lucky winner, to be announced by 10pm EST. My brain switches to off after that! LOL.

  2. Oh, Colleen, I LOVE LOVE your flower pictures. I can just feel the peace surrounding you as you stroll through the gardens! Beautiful daughter's wedding picture with her brilliant bride smile. AND I'm jealous of that new cover...gorgeous! I can sure believe that about sexy cowboys moving to your small town just to get a book. Tyler, Dylan and Jesse have been talking for sure!

  3. Love the pics, Colleen! So beautiful! I'm jealous that you have characters waking you up in the middle of the night... Mine are pissed at me for some reason and have stopped talking at all. It's getting lonely in my head!

  6. Thanks, Tracey. I really do love flowers and when we bought our house years ago there weren't any, so my mother-in-law gave us 1 gallon sized pots with Azaleas and Rhododendrons! They've been growing like crazy for the last 30 years. LOL!

I love that pic of Jessi and Tom. The fan was the "something old" I carried it the day I got married:)

  7. While I agree with the previous comments that your flowers are beautiful (and I am jealous because I do not have a green thumb for much other than weeds...) I am more impressed by the gorgeous covers of your books. Congratulations on the upcoming release and on the new series. I'll be sure to check back to see what you have going on in Ohio again soon. Best wishes.

  8. Thanks, Carolyn :) It really is peaceful in our yard...we've made it our own little Garden of Eden...FYI we have had our share of snakes over the years...but that's another story. :)

I do love that pic of Jessi & Tom. They just radiate happiness.

Thanks for the kind words about my cover and cowboys following me...I'm nervous about taking a mini-break from cowboys to write small town, but we'll see.

  9. Hey Robin! Thanks. I'm glad you liked the pics. I totally understand about characters NOT talking to you because up until last week, mine weren't talking to me at all!

After chatting with a friend, I realized that I needed to start the book in a different place...now they're talking to me again...thank goodness.

It was the other characters who have to wait that turn that were waking me up! LOL :)

  10. Thanks, Cheryl! I had been hoping they'd find a cherry black Ford F100 Pickup like the one in my story, I haven't checked, but I think the car might be a DeSoto...will have to look into it. :)

  11. I love your pic "Gettin' Lucky in Kentucky" I had the best time at the Kentucky Book Fair in 2010...and was sorry to have missed it last year, but our grandson was due any day and things were just crazy here in October. :)

We're really lucky at Sourcebooks that the Art Department creates such wonderful covers. :)

We've had plenty of plants die over the years because of our planting rule of thumb: We water it for the first two weeks or so and then it's up to Mother Nature whether or not it survives...we don't fertilize because we live two streets away from the lake and everyone has wells in our neighborhood and having that in the ground water would be a bad thing. :)

  12. I definitely want to visit "Apple Grove". It looks like a quaint place to visit. Those are lovely flower pictures. Every year when the flowers bloom I always take out my camera and snap away :)

  13. Those are lovely photos and it was heartwarming to see the picture of your daughter and her husband. Spring has been wavering between bouts of winter here. I love this season for the renewal and for the break away from winter.

  17. Hi Lil - your name would be great for one of my historical westerns - sorry got distracted there for a minute. :)

I'm glad you liked the photos. It is so hard to believe that our daughter was 4 years older than I was when she got married!

Time flies...here's hoping Spring comes to stay wherever you are.

It's back to Spring-like temperatures here in NJ...I really wasn't ready for the 70s yet...I'll take the high 40s and mid-50s with bright sunshine any day!

  18. Thanks Terry! I hope the rest of your work-day goes smoothly.

I'm writing, blogging, and thinking about packing...we're driving out to Chicago before sunup Monday. :)

  19. Thanks, Elizabeth! I'm glad you liked them.

I read all the time, too. It's how I unwind. I have favorite authors that I re-read when I need to de-stress.

I am still on the fence about an e-reader...how do you decide which one to buy?

  20. What gorgeous pictures. Our Azaleas just have some buds showing. We've had two freezing nights so I'm glad they didn't bloom yet. It should be soon and I can't wait. Your series sounds wonderful.

  21. Hi Catslady! We've had a few nights that have gotten down to freezing, but luckily, our birdbath filled with water hasn't cracked yet.

I was lured into filling it with too many warm days in a row. :)

Here's hoping your Azaleas bloom soon. I'm afraid ours will bloom while we are in Chicago at RT.

  22. Wow, your garden is beautiful! We've been having a few winter like days here mixed in with the spring. Oddly enough, some of my orchids are thriving with this weather. Have a wonderful Easter weekend!

I can't imagine where you might live that you could have winter-like days and still grow orchids. :)
