  2. How many romance novels have I read in the last 3 months?

No idea. I read every day, but sometimes all I have to spare is an hour.

Subgenres: Para, Hist, Contemp, and erotic.

    My favorite subgenre is paranormal

I read both ebooks (on my nook and ipod) and print...but I never buy the same book in both formats.

I usually download my books online from B&N or ARe or directly from the publisher's website. I buy Kindle books for my ipod. I buy most print books from my used book store.

New to me authors...almost all of them, but I make a point to try new authors.

I'll be honest and admit that many new to me author's books were offered for free.

I almost never recommend a book to others. (Don't know why.) But if it's written by a friend of mine, I'll spread the word.

    I'm published.

    I like couples on covers.

Comments: I've read some awesome books by my fellow Sourcebooks authors!

  4. Probably fifteen books in the last 90 days (I'm slowing down), all historical, all print. Two new-to-me authors, both of whom I blog with. I recommend my keepers far and wide on every medium I can get my hands on. I am published.
As for covers... something in me recoils when all we can think to do to demonstrate a man's heroism is pose him like a stud and reveal his inguinal folds. If centuries of being members of an objectified and disempowered gender (in some cultures) hasn't taught women to be any more respectful of fellow humans than that, something is amiss. I like me a cover where the hero and heroine are relating to each other as people, with tenderness, humor, something besides tiresomely shallow, hackneyed lust.

  5. Hi Deb! No time to read as of late since I'm finishing up these 'Bad Boys' for you. ;-)

When I do find time, I read paranormal and historical (Regency and Scottish)and they are ALL paperback. I usually buy them from Amazon.

I do recommend new and established authors. If it snags me, it snags me. In fact, I recommend a lot of authors on this wonderful blog.

    I am published.

As far as the book cover, I enjoy the couple on the front in a romantic embrace.

    Great survey!

    _X__ Contemporary
    _X__ Paranormal
    _X__ Romantic Suspense

All of the above. I have all of these genres in my tbr. My next read all depends on the mood I am in at the time.

    My favorite sub-genre is:
Right now I seem to be leaning heavily towards Historical, Paranormal and Military Heroes.

    3) How many were ebooks? 1

    ___Couple
    ___Heroine alone
    ___Landscape

    10) Any comments or other things you’d like to share about your reading and/or book buying?
I love to read so I always have my eyes out on new books to add to my tbr. If I find an author I really enjoy, I will go back through their backlist to read their other books. If the author has written numerous books, I find it very frustrating when they release old titles under new names and do not clearly indicate it is a re-release. In the past I have repurchased books I have already read because of this. It winds up turning me off to the author.

  15. Doggone Blogger lost my comment - now I'm starting over!

Thanks Ash for sending the link along...

    1) How many romance novels have you read in the last 3 months? 20+ (do I count the books I started but couldn't get through? because then there'd be more.)

    2) What sub-genres were they?
Contemporary and Romantic Suspense (mostly RS because that's the genre I write in.)

    My favorite sub-genre is:
    Contemporary with humor

    3) at least 18 e-books and a couple of print books.

    4) Mostly got them from Amazon. I live in the boonies and our bookstores have gone out of business. The print books were gifts.

    5) How many were by authors you had never read before? This is a tough question, because while I read a few from authors I already knew, most were new to me authors, but if I really liked them (SEP) then I bought and read more right away. So I'd say maybe 70% new to me. Two or three books were authors I had read before. 25% I started with a new author and then read several more of his/herbooks. a couiple were authors I know personally but hadn't actually read their work yet.

    6) Where did you find out about authors you had never read before?
My favorites were mostly reccomendations, other than that it's usually cover/cover copy combined with a good price that I go for.

    7) How many of the romances you read in the last 3 months did you then recommend to other people?
    four or five

    8) Are you an author yourself?
    published

    9) On romance covers, which do you pick up most often:
Heroine alone, and I like covers that indicate the heroine is spunky or is in an unusual situation

    10) Any comments or other things you’d like to share about your reading and/or book buying?

I mostly made comments as I went along, but what I'd like to see is my favorite authors' books go on sale every so often. I can't justify $10 for an e-book, even when I'm dying to read it. (I've got four kids!) I only buy print books from two or three of my very favorite authors because I'm out of bookcase space.

  20. 1.) 10 – 15 – I have been slowing down on my reading and semi-focusing on writing
2.) Paranormal, Romantic Suspense, Contemporary and Historical (and fantasy)
Paranormal is my favorite genre, though Romantic Suspense is quickly rising up there.
3.) How many were ebooks? Actually zero unless you count the freebees I get from Amazon (Not a big fan of ebooks)
How many were print books? 98% of them. Less drama with print
4.) Amazon. Really want to go to a used book store. Around here we don’t have a book store anymore since Borders.
    5.) 2 maybe 3
6.) Recommendation from a friend or family. Some I seen authors promoting, and blogs. Book really has to jump out at me for me to recommend it to a friend. It had to suck me in and spit me out before I would do that.
    7.) Couple
8.) No… and for now I am just tinkering. But who knows what will come in the future.
9.) Hero alone with abs and couple
10.) I can be very selective. There are some key elements that does lock me onto my book purchases. I "never" buy hardback unless it's used. I rather take the price for that one hardback and put it to two, maybe three other book purchases. And I really dislike how when a hardback comes out, the ebook is priced the same as it but once it comes out in paperback the price lowers. That just seems wrong in my book but then my opinion

    2. They were Paranormal, erotic, romantic suspense, historical, sci fi/fantasy and contemporary.
    My favoriet subgenre is Paranormal.
    3. 2 were ebooks and 7 were print
    4. I bought them from normal bookstores and from Amazon.com
    5. 4 were authors I had not read before.

    7. I recommended 3 of the books to others.
    8. I am strictly a reader
    9. I prefer covers that are not overly explicit or full of bare skin, but usually end up with a hero showing abs, or a couple on the cover...because the story I want to read has the cover that way.
    10. I tend to make my decisions of purchasing on reading an excerpt of the book.

Lots of things factor into book buying for me, including author (whether they’re new to me or not), price, online reviews and even covers. I also find long excerpts that authors or publishers share online also can pique my interest in a book that will then be considered in my book buying decisions.

Hope this helps and would love to be entered in the drawing! :)

I find it hard to count on numbers as to how much someone is reading (although I guess you have to do it some way). Some people are reading novellas while others maybe be reading long epics. The best I can say is that I read every day of a least an hour and up to 3 or 4 hrs.

In my ideal world if I buy the hardbound the ebook would come with it for free, or if paperback for $1.00 more. Why? Because the nook isn’t going near the tub, and paper books are easier to loan to Luddite friends.

    10) Any comments or other things you’d like to share about your reading and/or book buying? I wish historical westerns would come back. seems most big houses only want one or two authors. I like the covers to be representative of what's on the inside of the book. If the woman isn't brazen on the pages, don't make her half-dressed on the cover. A good title is as effective but when working with a great cover, it's a combination hard to pass up on.

I like my romance to have character growth, good plots, fairly accurate, and I like a good strong resolution.
The majority of the books I read I choose from reading blog postings about it or reviews at the on-line sellers. I do not live close to a brick and mortar bookseller.

    Thanks for the opportunity.

I tend to buy more ebooks by new to me writers and paperbacks from my favorites, especially if the story is a part of a series. Hardcovers and even trade paperbacks(when not available in ebook) are just too expensive.
The best way to tempt me into buying though is a eye catching cover--usually less is more(and I don't mean clothes)-- and getting excerpts out there. I love to see a sample before I buy.

    3) How many were were ebooks? How many were print books? -- Probably half and half.
Of how many did you get BOTH the ebook and the print book? -- None.

    4) Where did you buy them? (check all that apply)
    ___online (Amazon, BN.com, ARe, etc.)
___bookstore (Barnes & Noble, Books a Million, etc.)
    ___used (used bookstore) woo-hoo, Powell's!

    5) How many were by authors you had never read before? Two or three

    6) Where did you find out about authors you had never read before? -- None of your choices really apply. I "like" a couple of cheap/free pages on Facebook that post links for Nook books.

    7) How many of the romances you read in the last 3 months did you then recommend to other people? -- Not sure.

    8) Are you an author yourself?
    ___no

    9) On romance covers, which do you pick up most often: -- I don't judge a book by it's cover (HA!). No really, I don't necessarily choose because of the cover. I prefer more subdued covers (it's a little awkward, for me, to carry around a book with "heaving bosoms" at a high school).

    10) Any comments or other things you’d like to share about your reading and/or book buying? I want to see more well-written stories with interracial couples and heroines older than 25. There are some presses that do interracial stories, but i cannot even get through some, they are so bad.

I'll usually give a second look at any book with an unusual setting (historicals), or a really fresh conflict (contemporaries). I tend to plan my purchases months in advance, so I like publishers whose websites clearly delineate their new and upcoming releases, and provide them with covers, summaries, and excerpts.
