What's My New Year's Resolution?

from Mia Marlowe...

If you want to learn mine, you'll have to visit me at the Brava Blog, but unfortunately, it looks as if that site's been hacked.

But I can tell you here that my heroine in SINS OF THE HIGHLANDER, Elspeth Stewart, would resolve to open herself to her gift of Sight more often. She fights against the Gift and as a result, she only receives snippets of disjointed visions. And they never seem to come in a timely enough manner for her to actually affect a change. If she'd paid attention to the warnings, she might have Seen that woad-painted warrior crashing through the kirk doors and galloping up the aisles to snatch her from the altar.

My guest blogger for this hour of the Blog Bash is Sidney Ayers, author of sinfully snarky paranormal romance! Be prepared to share your resolutions for 5 chances to win a short read from her or a long one from ME! Sidney is also offering a GRAND PRIZE of a $10 gift certificate and signed copies of her DEMONS LIKE IT HOT and  DEMONS PREFER BLONDES!

Sidney Ayers: If there’s one thing I’m good at, it’s procrastinating. I am the queen of putting off things. I’m not really sure why. It’s something I’ve always done. I’m pretty sure it’s my subconscious trying to set me up for failure. Heck this blog is going to be posted tomorrow, and lowandbehold, I’m just getting around to writing it right now. Silly me.

Procrastination is a really nasty habit, one that can get you into a lot of trouble if you don’t nip it in the bud. So I’m making a promise to myself this year. I am going to destroy this procrastination bug if it kills me. And I say IF, not when. I know I can do it.

But how, you ask?

Easy. Follow these important rules:

1. Put off the fun and games until the important stuff is done. That being said, an hour of fun and relaxation helps keep the stress down too.
2. Reward myself when I meet a goal. A Starbucks mocha latte when I finish a chapter is a sweet incentive, eh? Then again, so is chocolate.
3. Don’t push myself too hard. That will only lead to more stress, which can prove more fatal than procrastination.
4. Get adequate amount of rest.
5. Eat at least three balanced meals.
6. Keep myself motivated. Document my successes. Seeing all those achievements is a good way to help your ego
.
So there’s my New Year’s Motivation! What are your goals and resolutions for 2012? One lucky commenter will win a $10.00 Amazon Gift card, and an autographed copy of both DEMONS PREFER BLONDES and DEMONS LIKE IT HOT. 5 commenters will also win a free PDF copy of AN ABSOLUTE MESS, a short silly story I wrote a while ago and decided make available online.
Happy 2012!
Sidney

  3. Wow Sydney, that is a lot, hope it works out for you. The only resolutions I have made, have to do with reading. I want to read at least one book a month that has been on my shelves for over a year, and I want to read 2 cozy mysteries a month. They make me smile, and are a good break from the more heavy paranormals I adore also.

I love autographed books, thanks for the chance to win.

  4. Excellent resolution, Danny. Set intermediate goals with page count and drop dead date. You can do it!

  5. Robin, your goals are what I'd wish for all of us!

  6. Hi Aurian, I like your reading goals. I'm usually picking my reading up on the fly--one of the reasons I love reading on the Kindle app on my phone.

  7. Danny,

Great goal to strive for. It's how I got my first novel finished.

    Robin,
I need to do that as well. On all the same aspects. Great Resolution/promise/goals!

    Aurian,
I hope so too. Love the reading resolutions. I try to read in between the writing. I tend to avoid the genre I'm writing in though. So I'll probably read some historicals.

  8. I'm a pack rat so getting rid of clutter (so I have room for more books) is my biggest resolution.

  10. I don't make resolutions persay because I don't like setting myself up for failure.

So, I make promises. This year I promise to forgive myself for past mistakes, to enjoy more time with our little ones (4 and 6 years old,) and to take time to enjoy the simple things of life like sun sets and the smells of fresh baked cookies.

  11. catslady, if you're not into clutter, I can offer a kindle or Nook copy of the books if you prefer.

But I know about clutter. I've been banned from buying books or bringing new books home from conferences. But what they don't see won't hurt them. I'll just buy the kindle copy. The free books I get from conferences I usually end up donating or giving away on my blog.

  12. Refhater, I know I usually don't do resolutions for that same reason, but lately I've noticed I've been slipping where it really matters. I have to do something about it. :)

  17. I don't really have a New Year's Resolution. I always fail when I call them that so this year my goal is to become better organized, stop procrastinating and exercise more - even if I only add in some additional walking.

    Thanks for the giveaway!
