Actually, resolutions can get you into trouble.
In SINS OF THE HIGHLANDER, Mad Rob MacLaren resolved to visit revenge on the man he blamed for his wife's death. He never dreamed his plan would start a war between not just two, but three clans. He also never expected to find that he still had a heart to lose.
When I first read my next guest's post, I laughed out loud. It made the DH look up from his paper and ask if I was sitting on a feather. You're in for a treat from Sara Taney Humphreys!
______________________________
Sara Taney Humphreys: Happy
New Year! Like many of you, I’ve got a list of things I want tackle at the dawn
of a new year and there are some that seem to land on my list every year
without fail. This year, however, I
decided to own up to the fact that there are certain things I will not be able
to do consistently. So this year, I
decided to write a little list of things that I am no longer putting on my
resolutions list.
1.
Lose
(insert number here) pounds: I’ve struggled with my weight my entire life.
I exercise and, on occasion, will be careful about my eating habits. However,
the truth is that no matter what I weigh or what size I wear, I’m never
satisfied. My weight problem is mostly in my head and the
battle is mental more than physical. At the end of the day, I like myself and I
have to give up the ghost. Be healthy
and don’t diet. Lifestyle over a momentary fix is where it’s at.
2.
No
Swearing: I know…it’s not
ladylike…but it is cathartic. A well-placed Damn
it can be very satisfying. Every year, I resolve not to swear anymore and
every year I fail. Damn! See. I
will keep it to a minimum but it’s just not realistic to never let a colorful metaphor slip.
3.
In Bed
by Ten every night: This one is
just laughable, especially with deadlines looming. I do most of my writing at
night, so it’s not at all feasible. However, I will try to keep my super-late
nights to a minimum. Maybe at least 2 nights a week I can be in bed by
ten….Nah.
4.
Be up
by 5 am every morning to exercise:
See #1 and #3.
At the end of the day, I think it’s all
about moderation. There are no absolutes. Life is far too unpredictable to say never because the truth is that no one
knows what surprises may lurk around that bend in the road.
So how about you? What resolution are you
resolving to give up? Leave your comment here and I’ll select one winner at the
end of the day to win a signed copy of UNLEASHED-- Best Book of 2011 at Grave Tells Reader’s Choice Awards!

Mia: Thanks for sharing, Sara. Now I don't feel so bad about my extremely modest resolution for this year. (It's to keep my legs shaved as if it's summer year round! How's that for aiming low?)
So now it's your turn. Share your New Year's resolution for a chance to win Sara's UNLEASHED. I'll choose another winner who can pick from my backlist!
And remember to pop over to MiaMarlowe.com to enter my contest to win a new KINDLE!
No resolution this yr since they never work for me. Unless I add things like eating more gummies or watching more movies.... :)
ReplyDelete@May--Now that's my kind of resolution! Thanks for coming by :)
ReplyDeleteMay--Sounds like a plan!
ReplyDeleteI don't ever keep my resolutions, so here's my list of things I won't do: diet, keep a cleaner house, save money, stop cussing, and stop trying to make everyone happy. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah my new year resolution is to read a lot n a lot of books this year:). Aretha zhen, aretha_zhen@yahoo.com
ReplyDelete@Shelly--I like that last one. We cant' please everyone. Great list!
ReplyDelete@Aretha-Awesome resolution.
ReplyDeleteI don't do resolutions, Sara. Used to, but with working full time and writing full time and teaching online writing classes and making teddy bears for orders, my big thing is to set a weekly writing goal so that I can make deadlines. :)
ReplyDelete@Terry--I'm with you and the writing goal takes center stage. Deadlines are a wonderful incentive.
ReplyDeleteSara, you are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteMy resolution this year is to enjoy every single day! After Husband's cancer scare, I decided that most things I sweat about are too small to matter.
Hi Sara, first of all congrats again on your win!! I have only one goal this year, I finish RN school in April!! I have been an unappreciated LPN for far too long and I feel really old in school with girls that I could be their mother :( I will never stop cussing, I am far too good at it!! Many more successes wished to you this year!! Can't wait for Untouched!!
ReplyDelete@Carolyn-You are very kind. I know what you mean about not sweating the small stuff. Glad your hubby is happy and healthy! xo
ReplyDeleteHi Robin--Nursuing school?! That's so exciting! My best friend from high school just graduated from Duke's Nursing program and she's 42. She felt the same way about being much older than her classmates but with that age comes a dedication to your schooling that is elusive for most gals in their 20's. I'm so glad you're looking forward to Untouched. xx
ReplyDeleteHa, Lady Sara, indeed HA! I love it! What resolution do I give up? Gladly do I relinquish taking myself so "Damn!" seriously (expletive intended, nay, necessary). Giggling to self.
ReplyDeleteLol! I loved the post. Like Sara, I would have to resolve to not put losing weight on my "resolutions" list...I love food, there is just no getting around it, I will try to curtail my curbs but I'll just work on eating healthier....I get up early but don't always go to bed early so I guess I need to work on the going to bed early too...lol

@ML-Great to have a guy on board! Welcome to the Casa Crew :) I love a man who doesn't take himself too seriously.
ReplyDelete@Maria-Carbs are the devil but so damn good. See...that whole no swearing thing never works.
ReplyDeleteMy resloution is to enjoy life more. Screw not eating good food.
ReplyDeleteAngelbiker82@gmail.com
@Angel...I like you.
ReplyDeleteI don't usually make new year resolutions. Maybe I don't want anything hard enough that I can quantify or measure.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with the concept moderation. Having said that I'm so not going to give up having my nose in a book all the time & reading till the wee hours of the morning! When it comes to reading a good romance book I can never get enough :)

I just have a couple of goals for the coming year - keep up with my weight loss and exercise program (lost 40 lbs so far) and read at least as many books this year as I did last year (80). I've got to catch up with my towering TBR pile somehow. :D
ReplyDeleteBarbed1951 at aol dot com
Losing weight actually is a resolution that made me rethink the necessity of resolutions. I don't tend to make them for New Year's anymore and simply give myself goals in general and not for just that year.
ReplyDeleteNice! Really cool stuff and very inspiring. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletenightclub guest list
I don't really believe in them. I just hope that this year will be better than the last
ReplyDeleteLol, I so totally agree with your resolutions not to make list. 1. Buying less books this year? No, not a chance. Each year there are more authors I want to follow, so that means more books a year. 2. Less time for internet? Possible, but I love reading blogs and getting more book ideas (which makes me fail nr 1). 3. Go to bed on time during the week. Not a chance when reading a good book, it will have to be finished before I can sleep.
ReplyDeleteI've read 240 books in 2011, and for 2012: I want to read (and review) even more. I just hope they will all be awesome!
auriansbooks at gmail dot com
p.s. absolutely love the cover of your book!
ReplyDeleteagreed with this : resolutions can get you into trouble especially when it's not going as you wish ;(
ReplyDeleteand to admit before this year, i never make any list but to this year i have a little goal to do : reading more books and try to make a review, find better job, doing more charity and the important thing to make my mom more and more happy then last year ;)
eli_y83@yahoo.com
I am not going to resolve to diet this year. A realistic goal for me is to add more healthy fruits and vegetables to the menu.
ReplyDeleteCrystal816[at]hotmail[dot]com
@Linda-You said it! Can never have enough of good romance novels!
ReplyDelete@Barbara-Congrats on the 40lb weight loss. That is fantastic!!!
ReplyDelete@Lil--I love the concept of Goal vs a resolution. For 2012 I asked my boys what their goals were because I think we're more likely to acheive a goal vs a resolution.
ReplyDelete@Nightclub--Thanks for coming by!
ReplyDelete@Danny-Always hope and strive for better! xo
ReplyDelete@Aurian--Love you anti-resolution list! I love the cover too. Sourcebooks art department is freaking awesome!
ReplyDelete@Eli--LOVE the resolution about your mom. xx
ReplyDelete@Cyrstal--healthy is where it's at!
ReplyDeleteI've read Sara's book and really enjoyed it. I'm waiting on book 2 now :) Those are very good goals. One of mine is to not go to bed angry. Resolve problems sooner than later.
ReplyDeleteCambonified(at)yahoo(dot)com
I don't keep resolutions, so I've decided the key to that is to make simple, easily reachable ones.
ReplyDeleteSo this year I made the resolution to rad 20 more books than I did last year. Should be pretty easy to keep, right?!
I've got your book on my wishlist, Sarah! It looks yummilishous!
Thank you for the giveaway op!
