What I'm Thankful For

by Olivia Cunning

It's November already? How did that happen?

Since we have so many authors on the Casablanca blog now (which I'm thankful for), I did not get the opportunity to write a post in October about things that go bump in the night. I have to wonder if that is a coincidence or if the calander was too nervous to let an erotic romance author, known for fiery sex scenes, touch that topic with a ten-inch pole. So now you'll just have to wonder how over-the-top that post would have been. Moving on to this month's topic.

What I'm thankful for...

Last year, this post would have been a long glowing, bubbly, happy post about all that's wonderful in my life.

This year, fate decided to urinate in my Cheerios on a continuous basis, so I'm more cranky than thankful, but I'm sure I can come up with something to be thankful for. At least some some things.

Let's see...

I'm thankful for people who make me smile--family, friends, fans, and strangers.

I'm thankful for weekends. Really, really, REALLY thankful for weekends.

I'm thankful for sunshine. I wish I had more time to enjoy it.

I'm thankful for the unconditional love of my dog and the vigorous purrs of my kittens (but not the accompanying love "claws" or when they decide I need a purring cat turban at three a.m.).

I'm thankful for sleep. I love sleep. And lovely, inspirational dreams.

I'm thankful that my son started hugging me again. Amazing how much more you're appreciated when they go off to college.

I'm thankful that I have tissues at my desk because I just made myself cry. They tissues are even blue. My favorite color.

I'm thankful for music and color and flavors. Things that excite my senses and bring small pleasures of the outside world into my internal existance.

I'm thankful that I live in a country that was founded on freedom.

And what I'm most thankful for at this time of year is that I'm not this guy:

I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend and an enjoyable, turkey-filled Thanksgiving. What small things are you most thankful for?

  2. Hey, Olivia, I didn't know what the theme was when I wrote my post early in Oct...duh....of course werewolves go bump in the night!!!

Thanks to you and your wonderful stories!!!

  3. Olivia, I think it's far more conducive to health and happiness to be sincerely grateful for one small thing, than to have a grudging appreciation for all the blessing in the world--and a hug from your son is NOT a small thing. That you know it isn't is NOT a small thing either.

  4. In a similar vein to that college hug, last night I was struck by the way my 5-year-olds pudgy hand came to rest so comfortably on top of mine while we were sitting on the couch. So thankful my children show love...even though I know what will happen when they turn into teenagers!

  5. Thankful that my college age granddaughter trusts me enough to call and ask for advice, that my three year old granddaughter calls me and tattles when things don't go her way and that my daughter still posts "I want my Mommmma!" on FB!

  6. My eldest son was a notable hugger even BEFORE he went away to college. Looking forward to getting another one from him in, oh, about eighteen days or so. My youngest son isn't much of a hugger. He displays his affection in different, but no less meaningful ways.
I'm thankful for lots of things, but I DO know what you mean about being cranky! Thankfully, I have taken a few steps to correct that problem. More about that in MY November post!

  7. Good morning, ladies.

    Happy Thanksgiving to you, Eli!

Terry, thanks to you and your infallible support.

Grace, I agree. We're supposed to not "sweat the small stuff", but that small stuff is meaningful--both the good and the bad.

Amanda, that is definitely something to cherish. Tuck that in your memory for a day you'll need it in the future.

Carolyn, I can totally see why you're the matriarch of your family. You're a strong and giving (and HILARIOUS) woman.

Cheryl- The hugs stopped the first day of high school and started again on college move-in day. I'm looking forward to hearing your news!

  8. Oh, good thinking putting sleep on there. I'm thankful for that too. I never realized how important sleep was until I had a newborn.
