GUEST LAUNCH PARTY: Mary Wine!!

by Mary Wine
Please welcome fellow Casablanca Author Mary Wine! Her third Highlander book, Highland Heat, is in stores now. In today’s post—Mary welcomes us all to celebrate the launch of her new book with a Maypole :-)

The weathers is changing but it’s still not quite Spring, winter still wants to rise up and nip at me from time to time. My rose bush thinks it’s Spring. It’s covered in purple leaves, dangling the promise of roses in front of me only to have it drop too cold at night still for the buds to mature. I find it amusing the number of long sleeve shirts and jackets accumulating in the car…you never know just what the temperature is going to be so we’ve got lighter weight sweatshirts and our winter jackets still out or maybe just a long sleeves shirt will do the trick…lol!

Our little parrot has defiantly decided it is spring. He’s been singing in the window for the last two weeks. He’s determined to lure in a lady parrot to help him build a nest. Isn’t he a handsome fellow? This isn’t actually him but this is his breed. He’s looking for a nice lady bird, who wants to share seeds, fruit and nest duties. He promises to share his toys or at least tell his human to go buy more.

I find the time between seasons interesting. On one hand, I’m excited about what is to come but on the other I’m reminding myself to enjoy the day. I often set my stories at this time. For all that many of us will swear “cabin fever” is about to kill us, in times gone by it must have been a hundred times worse. Everyone used to look forward to May Day. Here you see a drawing of the May Pole dance. The tradition has major importance to people living in eras past but beyond all the fertility superstitions. I think they loved getting out of their homes after the long winter. They were more cut off than we are today… Think about it, no news, no music unless someone plays it for you, no…well…nothing new while the snow had you trapped inside. You couldn’t go shopping because the merchants couldn’t travel—no snow plows! So Spring was a time of excitement. I enjoy putting in a May Day celebration because it was as big as Christmas.

In the case of Highland Heat, I begin the story as the snow is melting. People are moving around for the first time in months and it allows my hero, Quinton Cameron, to discover the woman he’s been dreaming about is in fact in a convent. Deidre is discovering that she isn’t content but she doesn’t know what she needs to do to find happiness. Fate helps them both along.

Whatever your plans for this changing season, I hope you enjoy it! Drop by my website for excerpts from Highland Heat. http://www.marywine.com/.

Thanks so much for visiting today, Mary! For a chance to win a copy of Highland Heat tell us what you are most excited to be able to do this Spring. The winner will be chosen on MONDAY-so be sure to leave an email address we can reach you at to let you know! We'll also put it in the comments :-) Good Luck!

HIGHLAND HEAT BY MARY WINE – IN STORES MARCH 2011

Ruined, Betrayed and Banished…
As brave as she is impulsive, Deirdre Chattan’s tendency to follow her heart and not her head has finally tarnished her reputation beyond repair. But when powerful Highland Laird Quinton Cameron finds her, he doesn’t care about her past—it’s her future he’s about to change.

But It’s Never Too Late for Redemption…
From the moment Quinton sets eyes on Deirdre Chattan, rational thought vanishes. For in her eyes he sees a fiery spirit that matches his own, and he’ll be damned if he’ll let such a wild Scottish rose wither under the weight of a nun’s habit…

With nothing to lose, Deirdre and Quinton band together to protect king and country. But what they accomplish alone is nothing compared to what they can build with their passion for each other…

  2. We're not much for snow out in So Cal, so the signs of the seasons can be sometimes be rather subtle. But spring is when the desert wildflowers bloom. Most of them are these incredibly tiny little jewels of brilliant color in a landscape otherwise colored in shades of drab. It's fleeting, once the winter rains sink deep beneath the earth, the flowers will hide away for another year.

  3. I will be pretty excited to get out there and walk again! It's been tough, being cooped up indoors this winter.

  4. Well here in Chicago we sometimes go from Winter to Summer without getting a Spring at all. I love Spring however. I love the flowers and the rain. Yes, the rain. It is so much better than snow. Great post Mary! Congratulations on your new release!

  5. Hi Mary. Congratulations on the launch. I'm so ready for spring. I'm in Virginia and we've had a couple of 70 degree days followed by 30's. Burrr. So we have quite an accumulation of sweaters and long-sleeved shirts in the car as well. The thing I'm most looking forward to for spring is the release of my debut book, Awaken the Highland Warrior. That will just make my spring fabulous. But what I need to do is a serious spring cleaning, inside the house and outside.

I can't wait to read your Highland Heat. It sounds right up my alley.

  7. Mary: Congratulations on the release of Highland Heat! I love the premise and cannot wait to read it.

We live in northern NJ and had a fabulously warm day on Monday, so I raked all of the gravel (from the salt mix they put down on our street) out of our front garden bed. As I worked, I could sense the earth sighing and the little green shoots from my bulbs singing along with the RedWing Blackbirds that have decided to stay since Spring is so close. But since Tuesday, it's been chilly again (sigh).

But I have hope, our Snow Drops are just waiting for two warm days in a row to open their lovely flowers.

Thanks for the wonderful post! I really do love Spring. ;)

  10. Congratulations on the new release! Here in Oklahoma spring (what we have of it is usually a week at most and then summer is here with a roaring blast of heat) is pushing winter out. Daffodils are blooming, roses are putting out new leaves and the Sweet Williams are coloring up the flower bed. I'm looking forward to May when the first book my new series is published, roses and at the end of April, the big Easter egg hunt in my back yard. I'd say with the grandkids but alas, the adults in my family like to hunt, too, so everyone gets in on the fun!

  11. Congratulations on your new release Mary! I too love the changes in the season and have the same issue with jackets and coats piling up in the car or on the coach...lol

What I am most excited about the coming spring for is the chance to plant some new flowers and just have the Sun visible in the sky from when I get up to at leasst dinner time. I am so tired of the grey skies that we have had this past winter!

    Thanks for the contest

  13. Congratulations Mary - the book looks great!
We get little hints of Spring here in Wyoming. Two days ago I walked my dogs around the lake in 65-degree weather and went into that crazy cleaning frenzy the first warm weather always instigates. Today, it's snowing. Oh, well, at least that means the Spring cleaning can stop and I can curl up with a good book - or write one:)

  19. I've already started getting my hands into the dirt, removing the starting weeds and taking out the dead rot to make room for new seeds. I can't wait to be surrounded by tons of flowers as read outside during the late spring and summer!
