My TBR Pile...Of Doom!

Okay, so it's not exactly as scary as the Temple of Doom, but if my To Be Read pile gets a whole lot higher, it's going to do some serious damage if and when it finally topples and crushes me.

I was thinking today (longingly) about what I'm going to do with my days once I'm off deadline and actually have free time again. I don't really remember what that's like right now (as I plug away at my computer at roughly 1 a.m.), but I'm sure I'll adjust. Anyway, one of the things I really want to do is tackle my towering pile of books and actually enjoy a story instead of trying to drag one, kicking and screaming, out my head to wrestle onto paper. I'm fairly fried on blogging ideas right now, for obvious reasons, but I did work up a little list of some of the books I plan on curling up with in fairly short order. Here are a few:

1. Goddess of the Rose, by P.C. Cast
2. Jewel of Atlantis by Gena Showalter (I've read the rest of the series, but not the first book!)
3. Nora Roberts' new trilogy (I think the first one is The Hollow)
4. Gena Showalter's new trilogy (Darkest Pleasures and all that)
5. Jacquelyn Frank's Nightwalker books (I read half of Jacob, loved it, and then life happened, my mom stole it, and now I need to start again)
6. All the JD Robb books I've missed in the last year and a half
7. All of the other Casablanca books, of course!! Which is becoming quite a list!

So those are just a few of my reads. My Sis-In-Law keeps telling me I need to read Amanda Quick, so I'll probably try her. And if set loose at the bookstore, I will just get random and do serious damage to my wallet! So what about all of you? What's on your TBR list right now? And if you've read anything on mine, how was it? Also, I would LOVE some recommendations on really good historicals anyone has read recently, because I've been really in the mood for a yummy Regency or a steamy Victorian, or even a medieval. Help me with my end of summer reads, everyone!

Kendra

P.S. Apologies if my cat's blogging is more interesting than mine these days. I asked if he would do it for me again this week, but all he did was yak up a hairball, which I took as a resounding "no."

  1. Awe Kendra I can't wait to see what you've been wracking your sweet brain on this time. You know I have read both your books and am ever so glad I did. YUMM!
Honey if you had the chance to see my mt. tbr you would pass out. I must have a couple hundred here strewn throughout the house. Some in bookcases, some in piles on the floor beside the sofa, a few smaller piles on tables here and there throughtout the dining room, bedroom and living room.
It's reall fun when I have to go pick another to read as that's when I get my exercise. Up and down stairs from place to place and back again til I can finally come to a decision. Hmmm........just had a brain flash. I should have dusting slippers on so I can dust the hardwood floors during my jaunt.
Well enough babbling. Hope you are done with your baby soon and then have some down time. Suggestion for a book to read, just flip a coin.
    huggs,
    Terra

  2. Thanks, Terra! Hope you know how much your support means to me...and I do love to have my heroes called yummy:-) Yes, I'm currently using the electric cattle prod on Bastian and company to finish this darned story on time. Had a few false starts, but I'm really pleased with the way its turning out. It just needs to be DONE already!

I love the way your house sounds! My kind of place. And I do think the dusting slippers are a great idea. Speaking of, I think I can write my name in dust on my dresser at this point...ergh.

  3. Hey, Kendra!
Everyone likes dog and cat blogs! Don't worry about it! Maybe next time I'll get one of my horses to write one for me. Kira should have some pithy comments to make about a horse's life.
The only book I'm thinking about reading is Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife, which is by a Casablanca author, too. I've always wanted to know what Darcy was like when he wasn't being quite so proud...

  4. Oh, I wanted to read that one too! I heard it was wonderful. *tosses another book on the pile, which wobbles precariously*

  5. I've got a stack, but no time to read right now!!! I love reading though, as much as I love creating stories of my own!

Not that you don't have anything better to do, but when you have a chance, send me your blog for Jul 31, and I'll post it for shapeshifters romance. I'm having a hard enough keeping up with mine!!Missed Wickedly Romantic last Wed....Didn't even give it a thought until Thurs. ack!

  6. Hey Kendra,
Nice to know my TBR mountain is not the only one about to BLOW its top! I'm heading off for National tomorrow and expect to bring back DOZENS of books. I'm driving so have almost unlimited space, talk about DANGEROUS!

As for historicals (I too have been reading a lot of them lately) I would be remiss if I didn't mention a couple of my bandita's books. Namely Anna Campbell's "Claiming the Courtesan" and "Untouched," both are Rita nominated in the Regency category. Also Donna MacMeans' "The Education of Mrs. Brimley" is a sensual Victorian and has won several awards. I HIGHLY recommend any of these 3, and many many more, but will stop for now since I do NOT want to be responsible for sending your TBR Tower of Doom to its crashing demise. ;-)

  7. All right, Kendra! That's a great TBR list. Tis better to have too much to read than not enough. I also highly recommend Amanda Quick; I always enjoy her work. Start with "Affair," is my recommendation. And I too am working on my Sourcebooks Casablanca reading list, which grows ever better and better. Happy reading!

  9. I'm in a hotel room in Atlanta and brought the latest in Brenda Novak's Last Stand series with me. I've hardly had five minutes to read. Ack! I love the J.D. Robb books, so those would be first on my TBR, Kendra! Can't wait to read your new book!!! Good luck with the deadline.

  11. Thanks for all the suggestions, ladies! My TBR pile grows, and yet continues to defy gravity:-)

Cindy, those titles sound yummy (sensual Victorian...I am SO THERE)! And Christina, thanks for the second on Amanda Quick. I really am in the mood to curl up with a historical, so these books are going on my list for the bookstore.

Mary Margret, have fun at the beach, and I hope you
enjoy the book!! I wish I was going to the beach...(insert egregious whining here)

Marie, I agree, JD Robb is awesome! I've never been disappointed, and it's great to have an author you can totally count on (Nora has magic powers, I think). Hope you get a chance to dig into your Brenda Novak and chill:-) And thanks for the well-wishes...I look like the wrath of God right about now, but I'm sooooo close! I'm gonna need a week of sleep and some caffeine detox, I think.
