It's about a family whose last name is Legend and they live on a huge ranch called the Lone Star. The patriarch is Stoker and his three sons--Sam, Houston, and Luke. Sam is a Texas Ranger, Houston a rancher like his father, and Luke is an outlaw. I knew I had a great series when these brothers strode onto the page as bold as you please. The story opens with Sam facing a bunch of cattle rustlers who are intent on taking his life. Left with injuries, he boards a train to head to the ranch to recover when he crosses paths with a desperate woman. They end up running for their lives along with a mysterious stranger from the train. Sam knows if he can just get her to the ranch, she'll be safe. But the outlaws have other plans for Sierra. In one scene, Sam and Sierra are forced to cross the swollen Brazos River and almost die in the attempt. The contents of Sam...

Long before I could read, I loved listening to fairy tales. I remember the magic I felt at the impossible happening. Fairy tales still fascinate. I savor good overcoming evil and bask in the knowledge that deep personal trials reap huge rewards. I’m still a sucker for stories like Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzul, Beauty and the Beast, and The Ugly Duckling to name a few. The prince or princess always had to go through some horrible tragedy to get the person of their dreams in the end. Like Cinderella, they’re often the underdogs. And sometimes they might’ve been ugly. Remember the princess who kissed the frogs until one magically turned into a handsome prince? (I tried that and it worked.) As usual, Dawn Adams, head of the Sourcebooks art department, has outdone herself. I just love this cover. The guy wears such a determined look on his face as though to say, "Bring it on."
