by Cheryl Brooks Wouldn't you know it? My first time to blog here in ages, and I forget about it until the last minute. Well, maybe not all that late. I'm at least hitting it on the right day. Unless you've been following this blog forever, you might not remember me. I wrote the Cat Star Chronicles and the Cowboy Heaven series. Right now, I'm about to launch a spinoff series about the kids that were born during the ten-book span of the original Cat Star Chronicles. We're calling it Cat Star Legacy. I have covers for the first two books, Maverick and Mystic, and I'm currently writing the third book, which has yet to be pitched to the acquisitions people, so I have no idea if or when that book will hit the shelves. Heroes are a continuing source of fascination for anyone who reads or writes romance. For some, only an alpha—powerful, passionate, possessive—will do. Others prefer betas: kind, caring, considerate, who tend to be more a source of comfort than a source of conflict for their heroines. Personally, I can see the appeal of both.   I like a hero who is strong, capable, and knows how to take charge. But I also like a hero who can be gentle, thoughtful, and doesn’t have to prove he’s got the biggest one in the room all the time. Who doesn’t have to dominate or, worse, conquer the woman he loves. Plus, exposure to some of the old-fashioned bodice rippers of the ‘70s and ‘80s makes me extra-picky when it comes to alpha heroes: too many of those guys would have sent me screaming in the opposite direction if I were the heroin e. It's October and the leaves are just beginning to turn various hues of gold and red. The cool, crisp air carries with it the glorious scent of the first fires of the season. Every catalog delivered to our door has pictures of pumpkins or goblins and the pages are filled with the hottest costumes of the season. (My boys started discussing costume possibilities in August--we're still working on it.) My favorite side effect of the Halloween season is the plethora of scary movies on television. Ah, another blank blog page to fill. You wouldn't think it would be that hard for a writer, but perhaps what I'm experiencing is blogger's block! Whoa! think I just coined a phrase there.... but perhaps I'm not the first. This blog will ramble, because that's what I do when I'm blocked. I just keep writing.
