Way more than Sixteen Candles

So, it's my birthday week. Technically, my birthday was on Monday, the 14th, but this has turned into a week-long celebration, and I'm totally fine with that. :) I turned 31 this year. So far, it sucks a lot less than turning 30 did. A lot of my friends claim that they feel more comfortable and happy with themselves and their lives in their 30s, but personally, my 30th birthday threw me into a big ol' pit of depression. I think it was just the realization that in 30 years on this earth I hadn't accomplished anything I thought I needed to. I don't have kids, I don't have a college degree, and my day job is still the one I was working during summers in high school. I felt like a failure for a long time during my 30th year. But, now at 31, I've realized some things. Despite not finishing college, I'm becoming a successful author. Within the next two years, I should be able to safely transition to writing full-time. The Theme of This Christmas

You remember the part in A CHRISTMAS STORY when poor Ralphie gets that hideous bunny suit? Well, nothing like that happened to me this Christmas. All of my presents were awesome. They usually are. ...And I've noticed that Christmases seem to have different themes every year. One year, books, another movies, another, music, ... and cats. This year I think the theme was warmth. Then I received an awesome set of fuzzy indoor socks from my stepmother, snow pants, gloves, and thick outdoor socks from my friend, and the softest blanket imaginable from my grandmother. Everyone seemed to know that I had few warm ...

By Robin Kaye Today is my birthday so I thought I’d have a kind of reverse birthday party. Since I’ve already received a few rather spectacular presents, I thought I’d give away the gifts—three copies of Breakfast in Bed, the third book in my Domestic Gods series to lucky commenters. First, I have to show you what I got for my birthday, or, should I say, what I got so far since the day is definitely not over yet. I received a package from my mother and stepfather. I opened it to find a present wrapped in green bubble wrap. I have to say, I do love bubble wrap, especially the green variety. Back to the present—a quick glance through very cool green bubble wrap made me wonder if it was one of my books, which was quite odd, especially since I have plenty of my own books. I opened the card first because we all know it’s the polite thing to do. Okay, fine, I admit I only opened the card first because my daughter was watching. If she hadn’t been, I’d have been all over the present. In my opi...
