There are a number of exciting moments when a book is published. The first, of course, is actually finishing the manuscript but then there are several other hot moments. The hottest moment is when the box of final copies arrive in the mail from my publisher. I can actually hold it in my hand and see my name on the cover. That is smokin' hot!
However, another hot experience is seeing the cover for the first time. When I see that email from my editor and know that my new cover is in the attachment...I tend to hold my breath until it's finally revealed. The Sourcebooks art department never disappoints! Surprise me? Yes. Disappoint me? Never.
This week I received not one, but two covers in my email and I thought I'd share them with you. Keep in mind that both of these are arc (advanced reading copy) covers and may change a bit.
The first one that I opened was the cover for UNDONE, the fourth installment in the Amoveo Legend series. This is a cross-over book between the world of the Amoveo and my upcoming vampire series, Dead in the City. Olivia Hollingsworth is a three hundred year old celibate vampire and the head of an all female coven in New York City. She makes an appearance in UNDONE and plays a pivotal role in Pete and Marianna's story.
I was speechless for about three minutes. The guy on the cover is perfectly cast as Pete and has just the right look in his eyes.
The next cover I received is for the first book in the Dead in the City series, Tall, Dark, & Vampire. This is Olivia and Doug's story and takes place entirely in New York City....well...in and beneath the city. Olivia is the owner of The Coven, a goth nightclub in the city that is housed in an old church in Greenwich Village. She just wants to run her club and try to keep her vamps out of trouble but when some of her customers end up dead...trouble is all she's getting. Well...trouble in the form of one sexy-ass cop...a cop who is the spitting image of her long-dead lover.
So, what do you think? I think it has shades of American Graffiti and a funky retro look. How about you? Leave a comment and share your thoughts on the two covers and you'll be entered to win a $15 Amazon gift card.
Comments must be posted by 11:59pm 8/14/12.
Tomorrow I'll post the winner.
Dream on....
YUMMY, Sara! I can't wait to hold these in my hand!!! I'm talking about the books, ladies. Sheesh! The cover gods are at work again! Can't wait to get them!! Beautiful! And congrats!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Terry! I'm consistently impressed by what the art department comes up with. I don't know about you, but I'd love to go to one of the cover shoots. Wouldn't you?
ReplyDeleteOh, yeah, and they'd get mad at me because I'd be taking a million pictures for my blog! :) Flash! Flash! Flash!
ReplyDeleteI really like the first one. I have a thing about the book covers not showing the face of the cover model so I love the first one. I still like the second one I just wish his face was showing.

You always have fantastic covers. Both are great but I really love the first one. And what is funny is that I usually like the cut off faces but that guy is so great looking and I love his expression so this time it's the opposite!
ReplyDeleteBoth great covers. The guy on the first cover is gorgeous and his eyes are yummy. You could get lost in those. It is the first thing I notice on a person. I work front desk at a hotel and of course that is how you get someone is by looking them directly in the face. The 2nd thing I notice is when they walk away. I love seeing a guy with a nice behind. Love the look of the 2nd cover, you are right, very American Graffiti. Loved that movie and what a great cast.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great giveaway. You are a new author for me. Will have to check out the other books from the series. Have to start at the beginning.

Oh, my! Can't choose between these two covers! Okay, because of the colors I'll take the first one! Congratulations. Sourcebooks' art department has done it again!
ReplyDeleteAmelia
OMGoodness, Sara! You're sooo right about the covers being smokin' hot! The Art Dept. is amazing :) Congrats on the upcoming books...can't wait!
ReplyDeleteI like them. They're gorgeous. The art department has surprised me in some fabulous ways as well.
ReplyDeleteMmm, the cover models on both covers are delicious and stare-worthy.
ReplyDeleteMy only complaint with the first one is the color. Too much pink (I see pink more than purple) for my tastes, and speaking of personal experience I tend to stay clear from books with too much pink.
Now purple is a whole different story. Purpleholic.

The cover for UNDONE caught my eye right away. I really like it and the way the background color is, it makes the model stand out. Congratulations, Sara. Sourcebooks have some very talented cover artists :)

Those are beautiful covers. Love knowing when a character depicted on the cover matches the author's view of him/her.

Simply breathtaking, darlin'! Those are going to jump off the shelf into the reader's hands! I do the same thing as you do when I get an email with something about the cover in the subject line. I hold my breath until it opens and always, always squeal because like you said, they never disappoint.

ReplyDeleteThanks, Shana. You've gotten gorgeous covers from SB too!
ReplyDeleteHi Raonaid--Too funny about the pink! I do love the purple in it though.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Colleen! Can't wait to read Jesse!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Na! It caught my attention as well.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lil! Somehow the art department folks always nail it.
ReplyDeleteHi Melody--I have to agree. I think they're pretty hot too.
ReplyDeleteHi Chelsea! I sighed a lot too when I saw it...I still do to tell you the truth.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jane. The retro look grew on me and now I love it.
ReplyDeleteHi Carolyn-I think getting my covers is second only to getting a contract signed.
ReplyDeleteHI bn100-Thank you!
ReplyDeleteboth covers are pretty nice -- congrats :) you're right the 2nd cover does have a retro feel but not a retro romance cover rather retro entertainment (movie/music) feel.
ReplyDeleteHi Sara!
ReplyDeleteI agree... the second cover does have a funky retro look... I kinda thought it might have something to do with the Holidays when I first saw it:) I LOVE the color scheme on Undone! That one is a real eye-catcher! Congrats on some really great covers!

I love the cover for Tall, Dark and Vampire! The colors are especially hot!
ReplyDeleteCovers for me are huge. I started out this life to be an artist. I went to Mass College of Art, and everything. Bad poser covers are like fingernails on a blackboard for me. I can't even look at the blurb when a cover is that bad.
Congrats on loving your covers, Sara!
shirtless, six pack... yummy :)
ReplyDeletelove both cover :)
Nice covers! WTG Sara! You rock!
ReplyDeleteThey're both great covers! I really like how the first one matches with the other book covers in the series because I like series books to match with each other. As for the second, the glowing font is quite unique and umm, gotta love shirtless guys on covers, lol... :)
ReplyDeleteSorry for the late post!
