STRONG SILENT SEAL is on SALE for 99 Cents!

He does what any Navy SEAL would do—saves the girl and takes out the bad guys

Wedding planner Felicia Bradford is in trouble. Mercenaries are holding her sister hostage and threatening to kill her unless Felicia helps them steal top secret information from the Navy’s Special Operations Headquarters. Having no other way to access the base, she pulls a gun on the first man in a Navy uniform she finds, demanding he get her through the gate.

Navy SEAL Logan Dunn just got back from a mission in Syria and is looking for a little down time to relax. That plan goes out the window when a beautiful woman shoves a gun in his back and begs him to do something he can tell she doesn’t want to be part of. Logan does what any Navy SEAL would do in the same situation—he saves the girl and takes out the bad guys.

But their actions that day kick off a crazy chain of events, including a fast-burning whirlwind romance, an out-of-control sister, an insane covert plot involving a defecting Russian pilot, a mercenary bent on revenge, and a sunrise wedding for a bride who never wakes up before noon.

Getting through her sister's kidnapping will look like a piece of cake compared to what comes next.

His old friend has messed up his life since they were teenagers, getting into drugs and doing some time in jail, and now he’s missing. Trent knows it’s not a good idea to get involved in someone else’s problems, especially when they could end up getting both him and Lyla thrown into prison—or killed. Jealous of the Dresses

As I writer, I don't dress up a lot. Or really, ever. I work a lovely day job, but bank chic does not lend itself to the fun of a full-blown ball gown like the one you see below on Shana Galen's beautiful cover for I KISSED A ROGUE. Actually, in the world of banking, there are no hot rogues to kiss you on staircases either. Hmmmm....

I Kissed a Rogue

I suppose as a writer I live a lot in my imagination. In my imagination, and later on the page, my characters get to be transformed from dowdy companions into silk-wearing sirens. And the silk gowns they get to wear are always to die for. But what is the point of writing unless we write about the things that bring us joy? And beautiful clothes bring me a lot of joy...at least vicariously.

Another favorite gown from my imagination is the dress Mary Elizabeth wears to the duchess' ball in HOW TO TRAIN YOUR HIGHLANDER. Of course, Mary Elizabeth never gets trained, and she goes to the dance wearing a courtesan's gown. Harry the duke doesn't mind. He's happy to follow her lead on the dance floor and off, until he decides it's time to take the lead himself, and win his Highlander's heart. But while Mary Elizabeth falls in love with Harry, she gets to wear gowns like this one, and I envy her.

As I write this, I am wearing yoga pants and my boyfriend's cast off Harley Davidson T Shirt. Not the stuff of dreams perhaps, but they make me happy. There may not be a ton of balls and gowns in real life, but there is plenty of joy to be found just the same. I wish joy for you and yours, and that you manage to stay warm until spring finally arrives.

Ever since Christy English picked up a fake sword in stage combat class at the age of fourteen, she has lived vicariously through the sword-wielding women of her imagination. Sometimes an actor, always a storyteller, Christy works happily with Sourcebooks Casablanca to bring the knife-throwing women of her novels to life. A banker by day and a writer by night, she loves to eat chocolate, drink too many soft drinks, and walk the mountain trails of her home in western North Carolina.

The Asylum Jailbreak and the Reunion You've All Been Waiting For.

Hey, everyone! I've been crazy busy getting the final proof of Wynter's Bite ready for its release on Valentine's Day!

The idea for this one created itself when I realized that Justus, the villain from His Ruthless Bite, was not what he seemed to be. All of the havoc he'd created was out of love for the woman he lost.

So...

In Wynter's Bite, we get his side of the story. And he also reunites with his beloved. However, the dangers that face them both have only just begun.

For a PDF of this media kit, go HERE.

Kobo

And since I already did an excerpt of the first chapter on my blog, I figured I'd do a bonus, never been read excerpt here.

Justus de Wynter, Viscount de Wynter, and second in command to the Lord Vampire of Rochester, frowned as he heard the group of tittering girls making their malicious plan. With his preternatural hearing, he knew that the young misses of the aristocracy were not the innocent paragons that they painstakingly paraded themselves as. But he usually ignored their mean-spirited gossip and little pranks.
This time, however, the chits meant to include him in their scheme. Justus gnashed his fangs in irritation at their presumption to use him. He would not oblige them by dancing like a puppet on their strings.
Their vituperative words repeated in his mind.
“Silly little greenhead. Just wait and see what she does when he gives her the cut direct. I wager ten pounds that she will cry.”
“I wager twenty she’ll faint.”
Though it was true that Justus was merciless in driving away any unmarried female who dared to approach him, this time, he would be gentle with the poor girl. Instead, he would guarantee that the malicious misses lost their wagers.
His gaze swept over the crowd, landing on the target of the girls’ prank.
She looked painfully young, likely barely out of the school room, and a picture of innocence with her golden curls and large blue eyes. However, the curves of her breasts above the neckline of her snow-white gown chased away all thoughts of her youth. Tearing his eyes from that tempting view, he once more looked upon her heart-shaped face as she made her way towards him with graceful, yet tentative steps.
A pang of worry struck his gut. She wouldn’t introduce herself to him, would she? Or God forbid, ask him to dance? Such gaffes would render her a pariah.
The young woman licked her lush lips as if about to speak. But thankfully, she halted and merely stood near him, occasionally glancing at him over her fan.
Good. So she wasn’t a half-wit after all. At this point, he could either ignore her presence and appear rude— something he did often— or have someone introduce them so he may engage her in conversation or ask her to dance.
For possibly the first time since he was Changed two hundred years ago, Justus opted for the latter. Catching Lady Ellingsworth’s gaze, he gave her a beckoning grin. She returned his smile and excused herself from the people she was conversing with and hurried his way.
“Would you do me a kindness and introduce me to that young lady?” he whispered.
Lady Ellingsworth glanced at the female in question and a line formed between her brows. “Although I’ve heard some tales, I have never seen you seek sport with a debutante.”
“No sport intended.” Already he was coming to regret his impending act of kindness. “I merely owe someone a favor,” he improvised.
“Well then, if you are seeking sport…” She placed her hand on his sleeve.
Justus forced a tight smile. “I know where to look.” He thought he’d made it clear to Lady Ellingsworth and every other woman he took his pleasure from that his liaisons were for one night only. He couldn’t risk any human learning what he was, so he kept his distance.
The hostess gave him a slightly petulant frown before pasting a placid smile on her face and patting the blonde maiden’s shoulder. “Miss Mead, have you met Lord De Wynter?”
The young lady blinked in surprise. “I have not had the pleasure, my lady.”
As the introductions were made, Justus bowed and concealed an amused smile at her shaky curtsy. Nervousness emanated from her subtly curvy form in tangible waves. Even when making an effort at kindness, he still appeared to intimidate. Just then, the strains of a waltz began.
Perfect. This ought to sever the vipers’ tongues.
Justus extended his hand. “Would you care to dance, Miss Mead?”
Her pale cheeks flushed the color of rose petals. Usually such blatant timidity was tiresome, but for some reason with her, he felt a tremor of delight. “Yes, my lord,” she said softly, and took his proffered hand.
Even through the thin fabric of their gloves, he could feel the heat of her fingers intertwined with his. Shaking off the odd intensity of his reaction to her touch, Justus concentrated on leading her to the dance floor and maintaining a mask of indifference at the surprised glances cast their way at the sight of him dancing with a debutante.
Her steps were slightly off time, but for some reason, he only felt sympathy rather than irritation. “You’re overthinking the dance,” he whispered. “Relax and let me lead.”
Her crimson flush deepened, but she heeded his advice and suddenly the dance became fluid, their bodies fitting together perfectly. Justus blinked in surprise. She followed instructions exceedingly well.
The scent of her skin, clean and tinged with the lavender oils she must have bathed in, awakened his lust even as the pulsing vein at the juncture of her neck and shoulder prodded his other hunger.
To combat the alarming reaction, Justus decided to converse. “Do you have any hobbies?”
Closing his eyes, he prepared for the usual prattle about needlepoint, the pianoforte, and watercolors. Not that he frowned upon any of these genteel pastimes, in fact, many young ladies produced admirably good paintings and played gorgeous music. But the fact of the matter was that they were so boring to talk about.
“I like to read.” An undercurrent of passion threaded through her voice.
Interest pricked at her answer. “I like to read as well. What are your favorite works?” Probably romantic novels, but some literacy was better than none.
“I adore medieval literature.” Her eyes sparkled with enthusiasm for their topic. “Especially Chaucer.”
Chaucer? Justus blinked in surprise. That meant she could read old English. Once more, pity welled in his heart. Women like her were always counseled to hide their intelligence. But she didn’t have to hide hers from him.
“I enjoy Chaucer as well,” he informed her with a grin. “My favorite is The Book of the Duchess. What is yours?”
The Canterbury Tales.” Adoration infused her voice.
He couldn’t help but smile in understanding of her joy to speak of a favorite work. “But they were never finished.”
“I don’t mind. In fact, it leaves a little mystery to the experience of reading them, wondering where Chaucer was going, what else he intended.” A dreamy smile curved her rose pink lips. “Unfinished stories fascinate me.”
And she was beginning to fascinate him, despite his better wisdom. It was difficult to find someone whose passion for the written word matched his own. Justus’s best friend, the Baron of Darkwood and the Lord Vampire of Rochester, had little time for books between overseeing his territory and attending scads of country parties. And since Justus was Lord Darkwood’s second in command, all other vampires ranked below him, and thus were reluctant to engage in any sort of banter with him.
But he could not become close to this enchanting little reader. Women her age, by necessity, were only after one thing: matrimony, which he could not undertake without revealing that he was a monster and transforming her into one as well.

Setting and a GOODREAD'S GIVEAWAY

Two brothers…one woman…and one final chance for...
 REDEMPTION.

From a mysterious town hidden on the banks of Big Cypress Bayou in the swamps of East Texas comes TEXAS REDEMPTION. This story is a reissue of Redemption (2005) and I’m so excited to have it back into readers' hands on February 7th.

Setting always plays a huge part of my stories, often becoming a character in itself. For this story of two people hiding, looking for a safe place, the swamps of East Texas are perfect. Swamps are dark, silent, and ghostly with tall moss-draped cypress everywhere you turn. I went to Big Cypress Bayou which is near Jefferson, Texas when I got the idea for the story and took lots of pictures. But mostly, I soaked up the “feel” for the place and I don’t think I could’ve set this anywhere else. I hope you enjoy the photos. My camera wasn't the best.

Brodie Yates, known as legendary spy Shenandoah during the Civil War, has been chased for three long years by the U.S. army. Redemption is a good place to make a final stand.

Laurel James met Brodie who was going by the name of Shenandoah in a brothel where she taken after being kidnapped. Everything’s perfect…until Shenandoah rides into town and strides into the small cafĂ© that Laurel co-owns.
One glance tells her that she’s still in love with him. There’s no denying it....Only she's engaged to his brother.

One offers respect and redemption. The other his heart. Which will she choose?

For an excerpt, click HERE.

Does the setting make any difference to you when you read?

TEXAS REDEMPTION comes out on Feb. 7th. I’ll blog again then.

What's Your Guilty Pleasure? by Gina Conkle

You'd probably list curling up with a good book as a major guilty pleasure. That's why you're checking a romance novel blog, right? We all need a break.

It's why I don't mind when my husband turns on football or hockey. He watches college football on Saturday, the NFL on Sunday, and almost every Stanley Cup play-off game (and a few leading up to the play-offs). Sports are his break. Books are mine.

But there is another...

Chateau de Gudanes

Have you heard of it?

Nestled in the Pyrenees Mountains of southern France, the holding's history reaches back to the 13th century. Tides of time and war demolished the medieval structure. Only part of the base of exists today, replaced by a "newer" mid-1700s structure -- the chateau.

Australians Craig and Karina Waters bought Chateau de Gudanes as their French country home...a place to get away. The picture below gives you an idea of what they started with -- not your typical summer vacation site!

Above is a view looking up from the first floor to the third floor. The Waters's had visited one French property after another, seeking an iconic French country home. What they got were infinity pools and thoroughly modern homes. They wanted character. French flair and feeling. Their son searched online for "old French homes" and found the abandoned chateau. The family immediately fell in love and bought Chateau de Gudanes intent on restoring it.

That's when the adventure began!

The family has made great progress since they bought the chateau in 2013. Here are a few pictures:

A Medieval Kitchen - Before & After

I've followed the Waters family through their trials of renovation and French "red tape." They've been clear which of the two has been a thorn in their flesh. Along the way, this money pit has come into her own. The family supplements the astronomical costs with summer workshops and events.

Such as weddings...

They host seminars where you can work alongside Europe's finest art/architecture restoration experts (and add your elbow grease at the same time).

And French cooking classes ala country style in a bona fide medieval kitchen...

You can tell. The chateau speaks to me. She whispers like an elegant, old French woman to come see her bones, her style. She tells me that she's ancient and all the more beautiful because of it.

Don't be surprised if one day I answer the call and pay her a visit!

Thanks for spending time with my guilty pleasure. Now it's your turn. Please tell me about one of yours.

~Gina Conkle

After reading this post, you won't be surprised that Gina writes historical romance (Viking, Georgian, and a recent dip into steamy contemporary). She's a southern Californian transplanted to southern Michigan. When she's not reading, writing, or following progress at Chateau de Gudanes, she gardens and enjoys cooking for her husband and two sons.

In Praise of Alone Time

Last week I was lucky enough to go to Disneyworld with my husband and daughter. We’d been planning the trip for over a year, and it was as much fun as we had hoped. But there was one thing I didn’t count on: the absence of reading time. The last time we went on a vacation and shared a room, my daughter was 4. Now she’s 7 and old enough that she doesn’t just fall asleep anytime or anywhere. When she was four, she’d pass out about 9 p.m. and my husband and I could talk or read or even watch TV quietly. Not this trip.

This trip, if I was awake, she was awake. That meant that every time I tried to read, she would start talking to me or ask me to turn off the light or the Kindle so she could sleep. While I loved Disneyworld, it was a long week without any time alone to read. I really missed it!

Now that I’m back, I’m so appreciative of my reading time. I usually read while my daughter is at her dance or gymnastics classes and before bed. I love curling up on the couch with a cup of coffee or tea and starting a new book.

When is your favorite time to read and where do you love to read?

Writing for Charity

Writing for charity
As writers we have a golden opportunity to share our feelings, hopes, or awareness without preaching, making our message palatable to a much wider audience. Moreover, we have the chance to change our world. For instance…
Tug of Attraction, Book 2 in The Love Spells Gone Wrong series released Sept 28th, 2015.  A portion of the proceeds go to the Endometriosis Foundation to benefit research re: this not uncommon, but rarely addressed disease. http://www.endofound.org/
My heroine Brigit has endo, so this isn't your typical romance! (Sex can be painful for a woman with endo.) Buy links: http://www.books2read.com/tugofattraction

Isn't the cover adorable? I'm proud to say it won the Maple Leaf award, and even though I didn't make it, I made the artist who made it! My dear daughter is the award winning artist!

Failed actress Brigit Love moved back to New Hampshire from Hollywood with one goal: to have a child. So far her only babies are furry and live at the animal shelter where she works. Brigit isn’t willing to marry to get what she wants, so doing things in “the correct order” may not be possible. Even her Wiccan spells don’t seem to be working. Until she comes up with an outrageous idea that just might do the trick.

Handsome tugboat captain Ethan Cox loves his life as a happy bachelor and his only goal is to keep things exactly the way they are. No wonder his coven friend Brigit thinks he’d be the perfect guy to plant the seed and walk away whistling, especially with an iron clad contract protecting his interests.
Ethan truly wants to help Brigit, but the contract she draws up stating he must give up all rights and responsibilities leaves him with a sinking feeling. Will he lose Brigit’s friendship and make coven rituals awkward if he refuses—or lose even more if he doesn’t?

The Cupcake Coven (Book 1 in the Love Spells Gone Wrong series) is getting great reviews! It even garnered a reviewer’s choice award! Read on:
“The Cupcake Coven by Ashlyn Chase has the perfect blend of humor and romance that kept me turning the pages...Ms. Chase brings me a great story set in New England that I didnt want to end. I hope to hear more about this great town and those that live there in the future. I fell in love with everyone in this book. Five shooting stars and a Reviewers Choice award.”
—Redz, Redz World

More great news!

A Very Jaguar Christmas and What's NEXT!

video
9781492621805-300 (2)

Demetria  is feeling blue, but she and Tammy, Everett’s sister, get together for drinks and movies, but when one of the ladies drops a glass on the floor, Everett comes over to ensure the two of them are okay. So much for the start of his vacation. But he’s fine with it, as long as it affords him the chance to see Demetria again. Little does he know, the next morning when he gets a call from his mother at her jaguar daycare, their whole jaguar shifter world will change forever and he and Demetria will be given the assignment that will challenge them to the end in A Very Jaguar Christmas.

Excerpt from A Very Jaguar Christmas

He checked again on Demetria, but she hadn’t moved, so he went into the kitchen to begin Operation: Cleanup.
Even though he would have been at home still playing his game and killing the dragons plaguing their world, he was glad to be here as a brother, a friend, and a Golden Claw agent, whose mission was to take care of jaguars in need. Still, he’d never believed he would be serving as a maid.
He was nearly done mopping the floor when he saw something move out of the corner of his eye and turned to look. Demetria was leaning against the wall next to the china cabinet, looking half asleep, her dark hair in curls about her shoulders.
“Are you okay? Do you need something to help settle a hangover?” he asked, continuing to mop the floor.
She snorted. “What are you doing?” Her words were still fuzzy.
“Cleaning up after the party and ensuring Tammy gets to work tomorrow. You don’t want to see Martin when he gets a call that one of his trainers didn’t show up first thing in the morning. Or hear how upset David would be if he learns he had to be out training all night and his mate doesn’t come into work the next morning to teach. She had just…vanished.”
Demetria sighed. “Got it.”
“Why don’t you get some sleep, if you can? I’ll leave first thing in the morning.”
She nodded and turned, and nearly fell.
He sighed, set the mop against the counter, and stalked toward her. She held up her hand to ward him off. “I can do it.”
“Yeah, and you’ll make it by the time I leave in the morning.” He gently scooped her up in his arms, feeling way too much like he was taking her to his bed, and carried her down the hall to the room she indicated was her bedroom, putting her in her own bed. He covered her up, and, well hell, kissed her cheek. Which is what he had wanted to do before they ended their time together last night. Well, kiss her lips, hug her, more.
Her eyes widened a little, he smiled, and said good night. Then he went back to his maid duties.
When he was done, he removed his clothes except for his boxer briefs and stretched out on the couch, covering himself with the afghan, wrapping himself in Demetria’s scent, and thinking this was as close as he might ever get to heaven.
