A Sky Full of Stars Launch & Giveaway!!

He's always looked to the stars
Now she's the brightest light in his universe.

Brilliant astrophysicist Dr. Owen Shaughnessy feels more connected to the cosmos than to people. He's great with calculations, but when he leads a team of scientists to study a famous meteor shower, he doesn't factor in his free-spirited artist assistant Brooke Matthews.

Polar opposites in personality, the friction between Owen and Brooke threatens to derail the project. But the beauty and mystery of the night sky draw them together—and she's going to surprise him in ways the stars never could.

Oh my goodness, is it June 6th yet??  I feel like I've been counting down to this release since forever!  A SKY FULL OF STARS is book five in the Shaughnessy Brothers series and focuses on Dr. Owen Shaughnessy - astrophysicist and the quiet one of the family.   I was a bit nervous about writing a hero who was shy and a little socially awkward and didn't want him to fall into some sort of stereotype that made him comical.  What I ended up with was a character who really was so much more than I ever imagined!  And when you create a hero who is just intense and interesting and who really comes alive for you, you have to give him an amazing heroine.

A SKY FULL OF STARS is a total opposites attract story.  Brooke is a former pageant queen and - as I refer to her - a former mean girl, but she hasn't been that girl in a long time.  Most people have moved on from that image of her, but she still struggles with the things she did and the way she behaved during that time.  Particularly to people like Owen - those who were awkward and nerdy.  So when she meets him and finds herself attracted to him, she becomes just as insecure as we've seen Owen throughout the entire Shaughnessy series.  Watching these two transform and grow into their relationship was probably one of the most fulfilling stories I've ever written!

Here's a glimpse of their first meeting:

“Excuse me,” a soft feminine voice said.

His entire body froze, and he felt his mouth go dry. Looking up, Owen saw her. Up close, she was even more beautiful. Long blond hair, cornflower-blue eyes, and a smile that lit up her entire face. And that light was shining directly at him.

She wore a long, gauzy skirt with a white tank top. There was a large portfolio case hanging over her shoulder, along with the sweater she’d obviously chosen to do without in the too-warm classroom, and multiple bangle bracelets on her arm.

Gypsy.

No. That wasn’t the right word. Gypsies were more of the dark-haired variety and wore a lot of makeup. This woman was too soft and delicate and feminine to meet that description.

Nymph.

Yes. That was definitely more fitting, and if he were the kind of man who believed there were such things, that’s what he would have categorized her as.

He couldn’t form a single word.

Her expression turned slightly curious. “Hi. Um…Dr. Shaughnessy?”

She was looking for him? Seriously? Swallowing hard, Owen tried to speak—he really did—but all he could do was nod.

The easy smile was back. Her hand fluttered up to her chest as she let out a sigh of relief. “I’m so sorry for showing up so close to the end of your class. It was inconsiderate of me. I meant to be here earlier. Well, I was supposed to be here for the entire lecture, but I lost track of time talking to Mr. Kennedy.” She looked at him as if expecting him to know who she was talking about. “He’s the head of the art department,” she clarified.

Again, all he could do was nod. He cleared his throat too, but it didn’t help.

“Anyway, I’m supposed to meet my uncle here—Howard Shields. He suggested I come and listen to you speak. He thinks very highly of you and thought I’d enjoy your lecture.”

Seriously? Howard Shields thought someone would enjoy hearing him talk about meteor showers? That wasn’t the normal reaction Owen received from his talks. Informative? Educational? Yes. Enjoyable? Never.

Not sure how he should respond, he offered her a small smile and felt a flush cover him from the tips of his toes to the roots of his hair. She was probably regretting listening to her uncle. As it was, she was looking at him expectantly.

“Anyway,” she said, her voice still pleasant and friendly, “Uncle Howard talks about you all the time, and when he told me you were in Chicago guest lecturing, I knew I had to come and meet you. My uncle really respects your work.”

Owen finally met her gaze head-on because her words struck him. It was no secret that Owen looked up to Howard—he’d been a mentor to Owen for as long as he could remember—but to hear it wasn’t all one-sided? Well, it meant the world to him.

  7. Well of course he needs to be an Alpha Male. I would like him to be tough on the outside but soft on the inside. Tough not in strength but in life in general. Someone who was raised to respect woman.

    ReplyDelete
  8. The Alpha Male doesnt hurt but I like the sweet nerdy character too

    ReplyDelete
  9. I think it varies for me, but the hero must always have certain qualities. Loyalty is a must. I also love my heroes sweet and sexy, but sometimes I love them alpha and possessive. It all depends. Samantha Chase always gives me an amazing hero!

  17. Oh my...I don't think I can pick just one. It depends on my mood. Alpha, military, fireman, police, baby daddy, bad boy...The list goes on and on. If I did need to pick, I'm a suck for babies so I'd say a single dad.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I love a "every day" hero, the kind of guy who will work hard, if he has a wife he treat her like a princess. I dont mean a fairy tale princess, I mean so that she knows she is his world, walking up behind her as she does dishes and stealing a kiss, pulling her down on his lap when she walks past to cuddle and giving her a kiss. A man who loves his children and his favorite part of the day is when he goes home to his family. A man who other depend on because they know they can. Who helps others. One that has a sense of fun. One that will get the job done. I just like a "every day" hero like my Dad who went to worked, loved the pretty girl he married almost 62 years ago, his three girls and his grandchildren. Heaven gained another "every day" hero on May 2, 2017.
