He's always looked to the stars
Now she's the brightest light in his universe.
Brilliant astrophysicist Dr. Owen Shaughnessy feels more connected to the cosmos than to people. He's great with calculations, but when he leads a team of scientists to study a famous meteor shower, he doesn't factor in his free-spirited artist assistant Brooke Matthews.
Polar opposites in personality, the friction between Owen and Brooke threatens to derail the project. But the beauty and mystery of the night sky draw them together—and she's going to surprise him in ways the stars never could.

Oh my goodness, is it June 6th yet?? I feel like I've been counting down to this release since forever! A SKY FULL OF STARS is book five in the Shaughnessy Brothers series and focuses on Dr. Owen Shaughnessy - astrophysicist and the quiet one of the family. I was a bit nervous about writing a hero who was shy and a little socially awkward and didn't want him to fall into some sort of stereotype that made him comical. What I ended up with was a character who really was so much more than I ever imagined! And when you create a hero who is just intense and interesting and who really comes alive for you, you have to give him an amazing heroine.
A SKY FULL OF STARS is a total opposites attract story. Brooke is a former pageant queen and - as I refer to her - a former mean girl, but she hasn't been that girl in a long time. Most people have moved on from that image of her, but she still struggles with the things she did and the way she behaved during that time. Particularly to people like Owen - those who were awkward and nerdy. So when she meets him and finds herself attracted to him, she becomes just as insecure as we've seen Owen throughout the entire Shaughnessy series. Watching these two transform and grow into their relationship was probably one of the most fulfilling stories I've ever written!
Here's a glimpse of their first meeting:
“Excuse me,” a soft feminine voice said.
His entire body froze, and he
felt his mouth go dry. Looking up, Owen saw her.
Up close, she was even more beautiful. Long blond hair, cornflower-blue eyes,
and a smile that lit up her entire face. And that light was shining directly at him.
She wore a long, gauzy skirt with a white tank top. There was a
large portfolio case hanging over her shoulder, along with the sweater she’d
obviously chosen to do without in the too-warm classroom, and multiple bangle bracelets on her arm.
Gypsy.
No. That wasn’t the right word. Gypsies were more of the dark-haired
variety and wore a lot of makeup. This woman was too soft and delicate and
feminine to meet that description.
Nymph.
Yes. That was definitely more fitting,
and if he were
the kind of man who believed there were such things, that’s what he would have
categorized her as.
He couldn’t form a single word.
Her expression turned slightly curious. “Hi. Um…Dr. Shaughnessy?”
She was looking for him? Seriously? Swallowing hard, Owen tried to
speak—he really did—but all he could do was nod.
The easy smile was back. Her
hand fluttered up to her chest as she let out a sigh of relief. “I’m so sorry for
showing up so close to the end of your class. It was inconsiderate of me. I
meant to be here earlier. Well, I was supposed to be here for the entire lecture, but I lost track of time talking to
Mr. Kennedy.” She looked at him as if expecting him to know who she was talking
about. “He’s the head of the art department,” she clarified.
Again, all he could do was nod.
He cleared his throat too, but it didn’t help.
“Anyway, I’m supposed to meet my uncle here—Howard Shields. He
suggested I come and listen to you speak. He thinks very highly of you and
thought I’d enjoy your lecture.”
Seriously? Howard Shields thought someone would enjoy
hearing him talk about meteor showers? That wasn’t the normal reaction Owen
received from his talks. Informative? Educational? Yes. Enjoyable? Never.
Not sure how he should respond, he offered her a small smile and
felt a flush cover him from the tips of his toes to the roots of his hair. She
was probably regretting listening to her uncle. As it was, she was looking at
him expectantly.
“Anyway,” she said, her voice still pleasant and friendly, “Uncle
Howard talks about you all the time, and
when he told me you were in Chicago guest lecturing, I knew I had to come and
meet you. My uncle really respects your work.”
Owen finally met her gaze head-on because her words struck him. It
was no secret that Owen looked up to Howard—he’d been a mentor to Owen for as
long as he could remember—but to hear it wasn’t all one-sided? Well, it meant
the world to him.

I don't know that there is a favorite, it all depends on my mood. I like the quiet guys, the hard workers, and the biker bad*ss LOL
ReplyDeleteIt varies but at the core I love them to all have a sweet/soft side and be willing to go above and beyond for the lady. Love this series. Thanks for the chance. Can't wait for Owen!
ReplyDeleteI like any hero in romances .
ReplyDeleteMy Hero is someone who is Honest, great personality, someone who makes me laugh, works hard & he loves his family.
ReplyDeleteIt depends on my mood but he have to an protecting, loyal alpha male.
ReplyDeleteI think I like someone who is loyal andprotective. Someone who is not afraid to fight for what he wants but also with and edge of bad boy lol. Thanks for the chance. 😘
ReplyDeleteWell of course he needs to be an Alpha Male. I would like him to be tough on the outside but soft on the inside. Tough not in strength but in life in general. Someone who was raised to respect woman.
ReplyDeleteThe Alpha Male doesnt hurt but I like the sweet nerdy character too
ReplyDeleteI think it varies for me, but the hero must always have certain qualities. Loyalty is a must. I also love my heroes sweet and sexy, but sometimes I love them alpha and possessive. It all depends. Samantha Chase always gives me an amazing hero!
ReplyDeleteLoved Owen's story!! He is definitely my kind of romantic hero hd has a mix of all his brothers and his dad in him that makes him very unique
ReplyDeleteI love the alpha males that are super sweet with their heroine and are dirty talkers. I live all really bit those are my favorites.
ReplyDeleteI adore a kind-hearted man! He can be sexy as all get out too, but I'm drawn most to a man who will step up and help others and who shows great compassion. :)
ReplyDeleteHence my love of the Shaughnessy's!
Vera Wilson said,
ReplyDeleteOne that is caring and loyal. But like a little mystery about him, never know when he will show up with a surprise.
snoopysnop1 at yahoo dot com
I love the soft hearted in private but hard alpha male in public type.
ReplyDeleteConfident. A little bossy but doesn't get angry when she disagrees. Protective. Loyal.
ReplyDeleteI love all heros!! I prefer them to be more "normal" than billionaires, but I'll read anything with a HEA!!!
ReplyDeleteOh my...I don't think I can pick just one. It depends on my mood. Alpha, military, fireman, police, baby daddy, bad boy...The list goes on and on. If I did need to pick, I'm a suck for babies so I'd say a single dad.
ReplyDeleteAny kind of alpha hero
ReplyDeleteI love a "every day" hero, the kind of guy who will work hard, if he has a wife he treat her like a princess. I dont mean a fairy tale princess, I mean so that she knows she is his world, walking up behind her as she does dishes and stealing a kiss, pulling her down on his lap when she walks past to cuddle and giving her a kiss. A man who loves his children and his favorite part of the day is when he goes home to his family. A man who other depend on because they know they can. Who helps others. One that has a sense of fun. One that will get the job done. I just like a "every day" hero like my Dad who went to worked, loved the pretty girl he married almost 62 years ago, his three girls and his grandchildren. Heaven gained another "every day" hero on May 2, 2017.
ReplyDeleteLoyal, honest, caring firemen
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance.
tlprice79@yahoo.com
I really do love them all as long as they're loyal and willing to change.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to read this one!! My favorite hero changes as I read each book, but in general I like to see the heroes be strong willed, determined, independent with a soft side & humor that shows with their loved ones Thanks for the opportunity!!!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for Owen! I love sweet, loyal, and completely in live with their girl.
ReplyDeleteI think my favorite hero in a romance book is the bad guy who feel in love . Can't wait for the book. Congratulations
ReplyDeleteI like my heros hot and with trouble in the story.
ReplyDeleteI like a hero who is courageous, protective and honorable. He can be from any walk of life and from any setting. He is a man who can be relied upon and who is caring and loving to his woman.
ReplyDeleteMy favorites are the quiet but strong types. Like Owen!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite romantic heroes are those that are patient and sweet.
ReplyDeleteNo favorites I love reading about all of them.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite romantic hero are the alphas who have a very sensitive sweet side that they don't show too anyone but that one special person...
ReplyDeleteMy favorite kind of hero is usually the one in the book I am reading at any given time.
ReplyDeleteI've always liked the Alpha man hero - ex-military or firefighter, but I'm learning that the Beta man is pretty awesome.
ReplyDeleteLove It! I like romances with neerdy heros
ReplyDeleteI don't have a favorite. Instead, it's usually the guy in the book I'm reading at the time... as I'm obviously fickle. But... I like it that way!
ReplyDeleteBeth koehn Caves
ReplyDeleteSince I cannot seem to comment on any other choice, I had to try Anonymous. My hero must be sweet, sexy, romantic, help me around the house, love kids and animals, God and Family first, lil country and rock n roll, moral compass, no criminal history, hardworking, selfless and clean, yet dirty.
I mostly like the sweet, funny with a splash of Alpha hero but the sweet, nerdy ones have a place in my heart too.
ReplyDeleteAlpha hero.
ReplyDeleteI'm a sucker for a cowboy hero...but I love a polished man in a suit :)
ReplyDeleteLoyal alpha hero
ReplyDeleteI love a loyal alpha hero who has a sweet side.
ReplyDeleteHe can be a firefighter, or a man in the military, or a police officer, or a doctor, who am I kidding, a man that can provide for his family, romantically, emotionally, physically (hugs, kisses, a walk in the park, etc), as well as financially.
ReplyDeleteLove hard working, respectable, loves humor, and cooks!
ReplyDeleteMy hero would be a smart, funny, sweet, and thoughtful man who pampers and spoils me!
ReplyDeleteLove ones where they don't like each other and torment each other and then love wins
ReplyDeletemy favorite hero would be the not so perfect man,he would have some flaws or trouble that we could get through together
ReplyDeleteStrong on the inside but sweet on the inside.
ReplyDeleteCowboys, because of the swagger and the horses!
ReplyDeleteNot an easy question lol! Must have: sense of humor, kindness to pets... is brooding a trait? Brooding, erm... I'll take it all! ~Aleen
ReplyDeleteMy hero is loyal, kind, always ready with a smile and maybe a little on the bad side.
ReplyDeletejudytucker1947@gmail.com
Love an everyday hero, good soul and heart ❤️
ReplyDeleteHmmm a bad boy that is a good man... not much beats that
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is the real man. Not a fantasy. I am not saying fantasies are bad but life is too real. Life is good and bad everything mixed.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the fabulous book opportunity!!
When the struggle because they don't like it each and torment each other. But after struggling love triumphs and wins out. Geri G
ReplyDeleteI love billionaire bad boys!
ReplyDeleteI like my hero to be slightly damaged, kind, grumpy, honest, and underneath it all, hopeful.
ReplyDeleteI love all kinds, prefer cowboys, firefighters, billionaires. So much fun
ReplyDeleteAwww... That is such a sweet excerpt, Samantha! As for favorite kind of hero? I'm not sure I have just one, but I'm definitely a sucker for the geeky ones--generally they are such good students, and when they turn the force of their focus onto something, good things happen ;)

ReplyDeleteI love a lot of different types of heroes but I think I would pick a Navy SEAL or Delta Force as my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI love all types billionaires highlanders vampires cowboys
ReplyDeleteI like many different kinds of heroes. Cowboys are one of my fav, and Military heroes too..
ReplyDeleteI like all kinds, but they do have to have a good sense of humor and can laugh at themselves!
ReplyDeleteI love them all. It really depends on my mood. But I do love a loyal, honest, family man.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite kind of hero would be first responders. There is just something about those uniforms.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is the classic good guy. The guy who doesn't feel the need to act like a swaggering "alpha" jerk in order to woo his woman, but the guy who respects his partner and does the little things to show that he cares about her. Samantha Chase writes really great heroes who fit that bill. <3
ReplyDeleteI typically like military heros the best who are loyal and protect.
ReplyDeleteI like smart talented sexy heros. ;)
ReplyDeleteAs long as they are an Alpha male.. jobs don't matter!
ReplyDeleteAs long as they are an Alpha male.. jobs don't matter!
ReplyDeleteI love a good alpha hero, but I also have a sweet spot for the beta. I love me a good geek (a la Owen!), especially when they have those alpha tendencies. As no long as they don't cheat, I pretty much love them all!

ReplyDeleteOne with a good heart, and a dirty mind.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely alphas.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite kind of hero is the unapproachable alpha that seems scary and hard on the outside but is always gentle and loving with his woman.
ReplyDeleteA guy just like Owen...smart, sexy and kinda nerdy 🤓! Does it for me every time!!

ReplyDeleteI like men in uniform :)
ReplyDeleteI like a hero who is smart and funny. Someone with strength who can make me laugh.

ReplyDeleteWho is honest and faithful
ReplyDeleteHard to pick just one. But I do love a tortured hero.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy a possessive, strong guy that has no problem showing his softer side.
ReplyDeleteI like a strong confident male. Always so sure of himself, except when he falls for his soul mate, and he falls hard.

ReplyDeleteProtective heroes with a sense of humor are my favorite.
ReplyDeleteWould love to read this series. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteIt always depends on my mood. Maybe a bad guy, the guy next door, or a nerd. How about an alpha guy who is really kind and compassionate. It varies.

ReplyDeleteAnita, YOU WON!!! Please email me at samanthachaseauthor@gmail.com. CONGRATULATIONS!!!
DeleteI have two favorites: the geeky nerd who becomes alpha hot or the tattooed military biker.
ReplyDeleteI like the slightly geeky type who don't realize how hot they are
ReplyDeleteMy fav? Alpha male with a sense of humor and he's got to be down to earth
ReplyDeleteMy favorite romantic hero is the kind that know what they want, and go get it. They have to be kind, loving, and trustworthy. And have a humorous side. But then again,.... loved Owen, and how sweet and shy he was. Thank's for the chance! Loved Owen, and Brooke's story. Can't wait to read more!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite hero is compassionate, honest, hardworking and passionate. He appreciates others and treats everyone fairly.
ReplyDeleteA hero is one who commits his life and his heart in principled manner. Honest straight forward compassionate. Looks are less important than integrity, a balanced sense of the universe and his place in it.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite kind of romantic hero is one who really strives to care for the woman he is with. One who at anytime would put your feelings ahead of anyone else. One who would hold your hand for no other reason than to feel your hand in his. One who would kiss you soft and sweet for no reason at all.

ReplyDeletelove a smart, sexy, MC biker
ReplyDeleteI like the alpha males. And you can find those in so many different kinds of stories. From paranormal (vampires, shifters, etc.) to billionaires, to MC, etc. But I will say protective and caring are great qualities in any hero.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for this opportunity!
Pam R.
I like a hero who, hard working, kind towards others, honest and loyal and is protective of the heroine. I don't have a specific "job" I like best, men in uniform, men in suits, cowboys, rock stars. I pretty much like them all :)
ReplyDeleteI like a funny and strong hero who is honest and committed to the relationship. Doesn't matter what his job is as long as he treats everyone with respect and will do anything to protect those he loves.
ReplyDeleteI like them all !
ReplyDeleteI love them all. Lol
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to romance I'm not picky of what type of character the hero is. I honestly love'em all. As long there's a good story line, plot, climax...etc.

ReplyDeleteStrong, quiet guys who will protect you and encourage you to be all that you can be.
ReplyDeleteStrong guys that will protect you and encourage you.
ReplyDeletePam Surgenor
ReplyDeleteThe strong silent Alpha male type!! Protects and cares for his family and loves the woman in his life unconditionally!! Hard on the outside but soft on the inside. All round good morals with a good loyal core!! Handsome with a body to die for but totally unaware!! Doesn't matter what they do for a living so long as they have these traits!! Swoon!!
